Title: ducky 1087 green alps vs Filco MX blue
Post by: Matt3o on Mon, 24 September 2012, 06:55:43
Little love for the Ducky 1087 on GH, in my mission to test all the switches on planet I got it anyway and compared to my Filco with MX blue (please forgive my typist skill).

Well... the keyboard is cheap and feels cheap but the switches have their good points. MX blues have a small initial travel before the actuation point. Alps greens seem to have the actuation point right at the beginning. Apart from that the ducky rattles like my granma Fiat 500 while Filco is rock solid. Now I'm going to open it and see how it is made in the inside :)

The green alps in the ducky are a little lighter than mx blues imo.  The ducky is a fun board....it is a good board to bring in to work since it is so cheap, you don't care if someone breaks it or snatches it of your desk.

curiosity: caps lock and scroll lock are linear not clicky (I guess white alps).

That's because with clicky alps switches there's not enough room for an led but there's enough room with linear alps switches.

wondering if all alps keycaps feel so loose (compared to cherry that are pretty firm) or if it's just this cheap ducky

It's just the Ducky.  The Siig minitouch, Zenith boards, Chicony, Focus, etc...the keycaps aren't loose like the Ducky.

Do people really steal stuff where you work?

To me those XM switches sound a lot nicer than the Cherry switches. The XMs have a deeper sound and don't have the characteristic and irritating rattling sound of MX blues. Hopefully the new Matias clicky switches will retain the solid click of Alps but without the horrible feel of XM. (From what I read, green XMs are an improvement, through being reduced force, but they still don't feel all that great.)

unfortunately the quality of the ducky is so low that it's impossible to say if the switches themselves are any good. The filco is so solid that makes me love the MX blues even though I feel there's something wrong with them :) Hunt for perfect switch continues...

sorry to reply to an old thread but is there anyway that you know of to quiet down these Ducky XM Greens?  I love the sound better than the Cherry Blues but this board seems louder than the blues to me.  If I could figure out a way to drop then click noise that would be great.

Any suggestions?

J.
