Title: Zalman up-and-coming gaming' keyboards strange switch
Post by: Binge on Wed, 26 September 2012, 15:42:05
I was poking around and found some news about new keyboards being released by Zalman, a component cooler OEM.

Here is the link for a product page that seems to have mechanical switches.  http://www.ask-corp.jp/products/zalman/keyboard/zm-k500.html (http://www.ask-corp.jp/products/zalman/keyboard/zm-k500.html)

There are some switches here that look a bit odd (http://www.ask-corp.jp/products/images/zalman/zm-k500_06.jpg) Kailn switches?

Hmm.. Except for the case, that looks a lot like the Rapoo (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=19314.0) keyboard we saw last year. Almost the same layout and similar creased red plate. The switches on that keyboard were Cherry clones with yellow sliders. People reported them as linear, somewhere in-between MX Red and MX Black.

BTW, Notice that the key legends is not even on the keys. Look at 'R', for instance ...

You mean that RaPOOP (http://www.dealextreme.com/p/rapoo-v7-87-key-gaming-mechanical-keyboard-black-red-160cm-118349?item=14)?

Another member of the Genius M1 / ViewSonic V1 / Newmen GM-10 / Shogun Bros. Cross Blade family makes an appearance! Wish more of the others would follow Newmen's example and try colors other than red. One of the neat things about fake switches is that you can color-match them to the rest of the board-- witness the GM-10 with a blue plate and linear blue switches.

This line of fake switches seems to be trying to be a closer knock-off of Cherry in terms of color scheme, though. Info here (http://www.kailh.com/gb/products.asp?Categoryid=101&rel=15).
