Title: Switches close to MX Brown?
Post by: Cindori on Thu, 27 September 2012, 05:03:19
I have tried MX Brown, blue and red, and I definately enjoy MX Brown the most.

What other switches do you think I would like? I think I could enjoy the feeling of browns but a little more stiffness. (not clicky)

MX Clears would be the obvious choice. They are exactly like browns only stiffer and more tactile.

Clears are good, but ergo-clears are better!

I can imagine that, shame I'm clueless when it comes to soldering stuff. :|

Get a poker, you can change stems without solding most of the switches. You would only really need to desolder 7 LEDs to access those switches to swap them.

You could also just find any PCB mount board since those you don't have to desolder to change stems as well

Browns aren't bad if they are lubed. The only real issue is their scratchiness, and that can be removed by using lube.

Ergo clears look really nice from this vid.

If I were to buy a filco, what would I need to mod it to ergo clear?

Can you provide some links on how to lube a swith? I am interested in it.

Thanks

Brown/red/blue springs

So is it easier to buy an clear filco (do they exist?) and get springs, or easier to buy a brown filco and get mx clear stems?

Clear filco, springs should be pretty easy to get. I've only see one GB for clear stems since I've been here

There is no Filco w/ MX Clears.  You'd need to purchase the Filco and Clear stems/switches.

If you like the feel of Cherry Browns, you may like Black Alps. I think they're close, but I do prefer Cherry Browns.

You can grab a cheap AT101W, I have one in very good condition that I quite enjoy.

Matias Quiet Pro's new ALPS based switches are an amazing feel and I primarily use browns.

I was going to recommend Matias's new dampened tactile switches, but Binge beat me to it.

i can solder for you if your interested in ergo clears or any other custom switch.

Sice you said youd like brows but stiffer could try putting a black or clear spring with a brown stem.

I think thats a bad idea.. The stiffer springs will make the already subtle bump even more subtle.

yeah, brown with a stiffer spring is even closer to linear with dirt that I keep hearing my favorite switch insulted as...

Just though it might be an option but i must say once you get used to clears i loved them and rarely bottomed out.
