Title: [ebay.com] - Cherry POS gaming keyboard???
Post by: nntnam on Sun, 30 September 2012, 11:22:58
Haven't seen this kind of cherry board before. The yellow caps look like DS but nothing for sure. Someone should try it and find out ;D

When a seller is silent about switch type while he/she can swap key caps, I say it is fishy.

I think it is MY switch. I am not sure, but I think see mylar film near space bar. The caps seems to be double shot though.

You can always ask him about the switches. Anyway, I'm just curious about the yellow WASD caps.  :p

You can see the MY stabilizer right above the space bar, and MYs use the 1x bottom row.

edit: not stabilizer, I meant switch. They have a large black base that's off-centered on the space bar which can be seen between the keys.

My best guess is they are nothing more than quite yellowed black on white keys. Price isn't that great either, you can get same MY7000 model for $11 used (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cherry-MY7000-POS-Credit-Card-Swipe-Keyboard-Black-/120992412454?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item1c2bb5b326), or NIB for $40 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHERRY-G81-7000HUAUS-usb-2-usb-ports-compact-kboard-/230592242239?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item35b05e623f).

If it's MY, it doesn't have N-key Rollover. This is a terrible ebay listing.

Wait, those MY7000's have DS's?

I don't game but do occasionally watch my teenage son.

I think that the credit card slot truly DOES make it a gaming keyboard, and the humor is just lost on most people!

Sure, the ones that have H in the model like 7000HPBUS do.

LOL, maybe set up the card reader to start up WOW...

Are these switches salvageable since they are cherry and you could probably just pop the switches off right? Or if they are that cheap they could be used as modding practice.

aren't those MY switches?  i was wondering if you could swap pcb mx with my, but i guess i'll wait for someone else to tell me whether that is possible instead of looking into it like any good little lazy idiotface. ;)

posting this mostly because i need to leave this somewhere http://www.ebay.com/itm/M-Audio-keyrig-49-controller-/170923272343?pt=Keyboards_MIDI&hash=item27cbd22897 after searching for "keyboards" on ebay

Worth bidding on this time up to maybe $20. Good for harvesting keycaps and nothing else. I guess you could put an mx 1800winkey pcb in that case body, but why would you want to?
Title: Re: [ebay.com] - Cherry POS gaming keyboard???
Post by: precarious on Thu, 11 October 2012, 14:14:15
i meant pcb mount switches, not the entire pcb -- just wondering if the mounts are compatible.  it would be something more for a non-pos model i guess.

i'm kind of curious about the escape key, i had this wild idea that somehow it could be a red cherry escape simply for the fact it's in berkeley and, well, lots of things pass through that town, so i didn't think it completely unreasonable.
Title: Re: [ebay.com] - Cherry POS gaming keyboard???
Post by: IvanIvanovich on Thu, 11 October 2012, 14:38:38
No, MY are not compatible in that sense. They only use the same keycap mount and are otherwise not similar in any other way. It's a slider over membrane switch type, there is a mylar sheet not a pcb. The only thing worthwhile about this are the doubleshots for harvesting to use on a good keyboard. It's hard to see on a small picture, but it *might* be a Cherry key for the esc. The corners look sharp like they should be. I still wouldn't want to pay more than $20 to find out, could also just be a dyed lasered key.

i figured they weren't compatible since that would simply make things too easy, haha; thanks for clearing that one up.

if no one bids on this one and i'm feeling crazy i might take a chance on it -- i'm a gamblin' man, bettin' it all on R1 red.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cherry-MY7000-HPBUS-POS-Credit-Card-Swipe-Keyboard-Black-/271079044865

so far as harvesting caps goes that might not be too bad, i think a few guys said on the old GH that they checked them out and some of them were shined up, or something of the sort, but the seller told me earlier they have 225 of the DS ones if anyone wants a lifetime supply of cherry caps, i guess

Post by: IvanIvanovich on Thu, 11 October 2012, 15:24:52
Yeah those oceantech ones are often shiny, but they are still mostly in usable shape. If you ask nice they might look for one in better shape to send you. Either way it's a good price. I've bought a few things from them in the past.

thinking more about what you said about dye and the other person about yellow, and along with the impression i've had for a while now that the text on the esc key might be black, i think they're probably white caps from another board that were both dyed.  that seems the most plausible explanation, anyway; i can't imagine someone tossing on badly yellowed caps then dyeing a red escape, too.

Post by: IvanIvanovich on Thu, 11 October 2012, 16:32:34
Except that dyeing abs is extremely difficult at best. Most dyes require high heat to take hold, and abs melting point is too low. I guess someone will have to buy it to find out.

Wait so if these are Cherry mx switches you cant take it apart along with all the other Cherry brand keyboards right?

It's not mx, its my switch. These things feel terrible, you don't want it for the keyboard trust me.

Is this any good? I read that it has cherry mx clears. Looks like a decent board... Even if not that much for clears?(they are pbc mounted right?)
Title: Re: [ebay.com] - Cherry POS gaming keyboard???

This is not an MX board.  This is a horrible, awful, terrible board that you don't want to buy.

I might have my friend in Berkeley look at it if I can get ahold of the seller, but probably not since that Esc text is looking too black to me and I don't think Cherry made a black/red doubleshot Esc, which would be the only reason this would be worth anything at all to anyone.

makes more sense now that you linked that one, haha

there's some generally good info there but i don't know about that particular board, i heard that some of those are inconsistent so i'll defer to someone with more experience

Yup, MY for sure. And not NKRO.

The black keys look like DS to me, but hardly worth it if you don't get the full set. One sign of that is the text on PrtSc/SysReq - on lasered keys both legends are on the top of the key, but with DS the SysReq legend is on the front.

Those ore normally either Cherry brown or clear. I just asked the seller a message about it, 'cause having more easily-accessible cherry clear keystems can only be a good thing. (I'd convert my 8113 to ergo clear)
---
On the keyboard at hand, does that red esc look like SP/other to you? 'cause if it's cherry, this board is worth a ton more than he's asking. It's hard to see in that awful picture, but the profile kinda looks the same.

It's hard to say really. I mean the corners look sharp like a legit Cherry key. Cherry used to make all sorts of things on custom order, so you never know really. Like my coffee and cream doubleshots, the Dolch orange, and now the green legend dyesubs... I had no idea any of that existed before either.
I'm almost tempted to put a bid in to find out, but the seller is at 0 which makes me even more wary.

Let us know what he says :)

(120 browns or clears for that price is quite a good deal if they all are cherry mx)

yeah lysol, I learned a fair bit from your classified thread, thanks for the pics in there

as far as the pos gaming keyboard goes, the seller was pretty unresponsive before, but i'll see if i can get ahold of them and have my friend take a look at it -- tired of wondering about that f'ing escape key since you people keep making me have second thoughts :D:D:D

If you need browns I have like 300 or something. I will sell them for cheap, .30/ea or make an offer. I want to get rid of them!

I really should get motivated and organized and make a wiki or something. Good you find some of my posts helpful though.

I may consider that after I get my Pokers. Do they have stabilizer stubs?

Looks like it was just this G81 from here:
