Hello, geekhackers. Chit-chatting in real time with fellow enthusiasts is a lot of fun. Why not come hang out in the geekhack IRC channel? For the uninitiated, there should be an easy "IRC" link in your geekhack toolbar. For the initiated, the channel is #geekhack on freenode.
Apparently there was some ancient beef that went down between the forum regulars and the IRC regulars. That is all in the past, and I don't really care what happened.. All I know is that the channel is pretty dead most of the time when it could be hopping and bopping with newbie Q&A, switch debate, and talk of ping and PBT doubleshots.
There's also a #deskthority.

That place is full of weirdos, though. :o
-
I heard everyone was on skype
-
That place is full of weirdos keyboard geniuses, though. :o
fixed that for you
-
How do you hide your IP on freenode?
-
I heard everyone was on skype
:O really?
Didn't know Ripster dropped by the IRC.
-
Yeah ripster just spammed up the channel and then left.
There are a lot of geekhackers that skype chat with each other as well. But with IRC there's no need to friend each other and add to various chats.
-
Hmm, looks like you can't hide ip as simply as you can on quakenet with /mode +x eh. ><;
-
.
-
Wait I haven't logged in yet. :l LOL.
-
.
-
Creepy. :l
-
Lol i jsed to be on there regularly but im mostly on rizon and half the time now i forget to connect to freenode because gh is the only chan i use on it.
-
yeah I'm on irc every day but I use quakenet ><;
-
IRC is good times from what I've seen. I'm on there most of the day and theres atleast one bash.org worthy comment per day : )
-
Guess ill have to pop on again i bet i can set my client to auto joint networks just as it does channels.
-
Ahhh I love bash.org!
-
This reminds me I've been thinking of joining #deskthority for a while. Guess I'll join both and idle sometime (IRC is for idling, right?).
-
.

(IRC is for idling, right?).
IIRC, IRC = idling relay chat.
true, very true.
-
There have been a couple of spurts of really good activity recently. We need more forum regulars around.

ill try to get on as im on irc all the tine when at home but at work it really depends if i have the laptop plugged in or not.
-
If you use mIRC to join irc chat, here is some code to connect to more then one network on startup.
auto connect multi-server: Menu "Tools" > "Script Editor" > Tab "Remote" add somthing like this:
on *:START:{
server irc.network1.com
server -m irc.network2.org
server -m irc.network3.net
}
-
More reason to click!? Sold.
-
Stop ignoring me! :/
-
Actuakky managed to get some good progress on stuff due to chatting in the channel today.
-
Connected, yo.

I was able to talk in IRC until about a week ago. Now when I type a message it is telling me "== Cannot send to channel: #geekhack". Can anyone help me fix this? No clue how/why this happened.

I had the same problem, which MissMurd3r84 helped me fix with the help of another person in the IRC.
You need to click the Auth to services checkbox and sign in with a Freenode account, I think.
-
Thanks to jero and Soarer I can chat again.
I used to get on without auth to services, but now it seems i have to.
-
Dfj, the person you need to talk to, has "quieted" the WebIRC link due to Ripster coming in and spamming. You now need to authenticate with the services or ping Dfj or *reluctantly* Kishy. Don't tell Kishy that I sent you though!
-
Aw can't get it to work on my phone :(
Edit: Okay doesn't work on PC either this is broke halp
-
get androirc if your using android.
-
I just saw you joined... did you authenticate?
-
I did a long time ago... I'm pretty sure
-
You have to authenticate each time you log in with /msg nickserv identify *password*
