Title: I think my ducky shine 2 is broken
Post by: StatutoryApe on Tue, 23 October 2012, 23:08:48
Well I got a shine 2 a few weeks ago, I fell in love instantly.

I think it's broken though

I spilled a drink on it earlier, well almost all of it got on my desk, just a tiny bit got on the keyboard, most of it was on top of the keys, I removed the ones that got hit and cleaned it up with a q tip. Keyboard was working great after that, then maybe an hour later the keys stopped working, the lights were still on but it wasn't registering anything. I unplugged it, plugged it in, that didn't fix it. Tried a new cord, didn't fix it either. Kept it unplugged for maybe a half hour, tried it then and it worked fine. Then a minute or two after stopped working again. I'm thinking maybe a little bit went through the hole under the space bar, if it wasn't that I have no idea how any liquid would have got under there.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? if not, will the warranty cover this? This absolutely breaks my heart... Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

Sorry to hear that :(

What type of drink was it?  E.g. heavily sugared?

Is it all keys that stopped working, or just some?

It was a rum and coke (more rum than coke)

It's weird though, barely got on it or in it.. was mostly around the bottom (crtl, windows, alt)

The whole keyboard stops working.. Going to plug it in now and see if it works.

Lights turn on, typing this with it. It's working great now but if it's going how it has been it will stop working very soon. Hopefully I can edit this later and say that it's working with no problem.

if it was due to liquids in the internals, plugging it in again and again is probably a bad idea. Put it in a dry cabinet/moisture absorbent/tub of rice for a day before plugging it in again. That's pretty much what I do for my electronics that got wet accidentally.

If it is the whole keyboard working intermittently, then it could be a PCB fault.

If it is only a few keys working intermittently, then it could just be sticky liquid jamming up those switches.
