Title: Tired of rubber domes!
Post by: crthell on Sun, 28 October 2012, 21:40:39
I have been a technically inclined individual for around 5 years, but am just now getting tired of low quality rubber dome keyboards- made of plastic and built to be replaced. They simply don't make 'em like they used to. The only mechanical I currently have is a Apple Extended Keyboard II (either with Alps or Mitsumi switches,) but I have a feeling that will be changing relatively quickly!

Good for you! The AEKII is a fine board TBH.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Do we assume you have a CRT too? ;)

Yes, I have a CRT. I am actually a big fan of them, but there's one I have that has a problem with the internal VGA cable, and I made my username on Youtube in frustration. I'm trying to use the same username for all the websites I use, even if its not entirely relevant to the website :P

Fair enough. :)

I use old CRTs mostly on servers, usually operating in text mode, where high resolution is not required and the monitor spends most of its time off.  Plus I have about a dozen 17" CRTs lying around unused.

I still own a CRT that I use from time to time.  The response time, and colour can't be matched.  It's also my backup weapon if the model M is ot around :)

I do graphics work (nothing professional or anything, but still) and I kind of miss the color production of my old CRT. I got another CRT, so sometimes I'll connect it to my main setup for a retro feel.
