I've been hanging out at the group buy forum quite a lot lately, and seems like aluminium custom case is the new trend these days.

 Poker $99 / Pure $99 / Race $129 Custom Aluminium Case:

 Filco $325 Custom Aluminium Case:

So I wonder when they'll make aluminium case for HHKB?  I can see a lot of people will buy it if the price is right.  Though at the same time you just might have the most expensive keyboard ever.

Let's just assume it's $200 (Mid point between the two choices listed above).  You're looking at HHKB $300 + casing $200 + custom color keycaps $100 = $600.

I list the keycaps because if you're gone that far you probably won't use stock keycaps.

Personally I don't own an HHKB but I figure it's fun to think about also this theory doesn't look too far fetched  :P

There was talk at one time, but due to the complexity of the hhkb case the price was going to be >$400. Even at that price point people were still interested but nothing came of it. I was one of the people interested and I still am.

Ahhhhh I guess they didn't want to risk making it and people not end up buying it.  $400 is a lot of money >___>

That's too bad, it would still be significantly cheaper than the 10th anniversary models, and they were released before the Type-S, which would actually make one of these better.

I'd certainly get involved if this came about!
