Hey GHers, it's me, xsphat. I'm far from a new member, but I been out the rote for a while, so I figured it'd be best to start here.
So what's the hot sh*t 'board right now?

Hmm... hot boards right now? It's a good bit more diverse than it used to be but essentially anything that's custom and from Korea seems to be the ticket.
Other than that I guess Topre still excites the loins.
As far as trolls, that's a tuffy. I think most faded away in the absence of ripster.
Other than that, I guess I would say the site is still growing and more and more manufacturers are getting in on the game.
Oh, and I almost forgot, colorful ponies are apparently the new straight. All those years of indulging in color theory have been laid to waste.
By the way, I think you were the jerk that got me into using typewriters reguarly at work. My general societal demise will soon follow I'm sure.

^^ pretty well summed up, however we've managed to bang together a custom 87 key board (Phantom) that went well, although no real solution on a case. Currently a 60% board is being prototyped (GH60). Matias came out with some new Alps design switches which are available in their keyboards and will be available real soon as bare switches.

I quite honestly came back here because it's time for a new keyboard. I've read this is the place to go for info on that ...
The trick is, i want to buy 1 or 2, not 30 again. I've had Filcos, HHKB Pro2s, Realforce tenkeyless, tried all the switches except the MX reds, but I see the mechanical market has blown up. No more Google Translate telling me garbage like, "The feel is of the keys, blue skyes always true, shall be profound."

And where is webwit? I missed him. I'll never forget the time we went on hiking trip through Europe. He paid for everything but I ended up getting so bent I had to w h o r e myself out for ticket home to the USA! Good times.

GH has more or less gone through a couple incarnations since you left. As of summer '09 it continued to get bigger, got a larger and vocal ergo group, major group buys developed, a few major turds cruised around, a few people acted like turds for whatever reason, summer of Ping! (summer '11), got a lot of off topic drama, no one would back down and get back to keyboards, major post/thread deletions, moderators, temp bans, perm-bans, more deletions, profanity filter, moderators gone wild, roooootweerrrrrmmm (summer '12), massive crash and content loss, rebirth, and so now you have it.
Did I leave out anything?

Nah. I'm kinda "done" with keyboards. Not enough truly new stuff out to keep my interest. I think all the work the old timers (XsPhat, iMav, ashort, bigpook, sixty, webwit, Chloe, Sandy55 ch123, bhtooefr, lowpoly/sofa king, CChan/Tales, lam47, kishy, Welly, Ms. Keyboard, and yes, even ripster)* did to promote, understand, and to some extent, evangelize quality keyboards has been done, and now they have a solid spot in the marketplace. Back when mechanical keyboards were hard to get, it was a lot more fun finding new stuff, importing from overseas, etc. Now, I can jump on Amazon and get what I want. It might be a bit boring now, but there was a lot of hard work done back in the day and it was well worth it.
Unfortunately, we got to a point where the only thing left to discuss/debate were our own personalities, egos and d*ck sizes and we all see how that turned out. We're splintered among 3 sites now (here, DeskThority, reddit.com/r/mechanicalkeyboards) and we all hate each other. I'm glad all that worked out so well; putting the "unity" in "community."

You make a good point. When this started, we were blindly ordering crap POS keyboards off ebay in the hopes it may come with Cherry browns. I bought my 86U from Japan for something like $15,000 and it took page translations and screencaps of websites and a few emails to get it. The nights luring KBDMania ...
And apparently they listened since you can now get a mechanical keyboard at Best Buy without stealing a register. Those were the good days.

itlnstln, I have gotten pretty out tech in general too. I have a nice phone, tab and comp and I see no need to upgrade. It's pretty new. I do want to buy a keyboard, so I'm mainly here for the chat. I had 3300 posts when I came back, so I guess I'm comfy here, lol.

no, lol. I gave my iPad to my son and I couldn't do that to him. I bought an Android tablet and have not missed the iPad at all.
