So I want to use my own FTP server for hosting my images that I post, but for some reason using the [img] tags doesn't seem to work with images hosted on FTP, only HTTP works. Is there any way to make it so I can do this? I know for a fact it works at OCN, but I'm not sure if the SMF software supports it or not. Anyways, it would make posting images MUCH easier for me...
Thanks,
-CLiB
EDIT: Apparently the [url] tags don't work with FTP servers either...
SMF, Y U HATE FTP SEVRER???
-
who the hell uses ftp? it's the 21st century man. next you're going to tell me that you've encoded your images as door games at various POTS BBSes around the world, and you want our SMF fork to dial out to retrieve them. SERIOUSLY

But if that's all his ISP allows ...

if all your isp allows is ftp then you have an ftpsp. plenty of other options out there.
web server is for web!
ftp server is for file transfer.
and i guess fyi asking a sysadmin to take time to make a change to an entire system just to support a single user is bad manners and will get you ****listed :P especially when there are user-side solutions to this problem (imgur...)
-
his isp doesn't allow him to upload his images to geekhack, imgur, photobucket, icloud, dropbox, etc? I KNOW YOU BETTER THAN THAT CLIB

Use one of the numerous, free photo hosting sites available.

I wanted to be able to host all of my images from my own server. Apparently that can't be an option...

My ISP blocks port 80, so I can't use HTTP. Which is why I was trying FTP instead. But apparently FTP is totally useless now...
Ugh, sorry to be a pain about this. It's just frustrating...
-
you can run your httpd on 8080
BAM

The following ports are blocked by my ISP:
What ports are currently blocked by OOL?
Ports blocked & level of service required to open:
Ports 25 & 80 - opened with boost/boost plus/ultra
Ports 8080, 1043/1080/3128 - opened with boost/ultra; and static IP business accounts only
Ports 135-139, 445 - currently unable to be opened
Not about ready to upgrade my internet just to host images on my own server... looks like it'll be back to using Dropbox for me...
-
Let's try port 81, shall we?

Dropbox is also for file transfer! Use an actual image hosting service.
