Title: UV Protection CC Skulls
Post by: BlindRAGE606 on Mon, 12 November 2012, 12:58:58
I've got coming in the mail a White 3D CC which was purchased from another member, and was reading that they are not UV protected. I want to avoid a white color turning into yellow due to UV, is there a way to do this?

I know that several automotive products do offer UV protection to plastics, and is this a safe way to do so on a CC? I will be using the CC on a keyboard, in a room that gets lots of natural sunlight. However, NOT directly in a ray of sunshine.

Thanks

long as you can get them back out.  Pretty embarrassing if the doctor has to retrieve them.

don't leave it out in the sun

a room with light isn't the same as direct sunlight, I'll wager it will come to no harm

No, there was one posted recently that had turned a sort of bone white colour - it looked kinad cool, but not if you expected it to be pure snow white.

maybe the owner was a smoker?
anything white placed in direct sunlight for a decent amount of time will change colour, paper, plastic, wood... skin. maybe not metal. That's why we paint stuff that's outside and even then it needs re-painting every so often.

just don't leave it in DIRECT sunlight

No.  He said his skull had been in direct sunlight for a while.

Sorry I can't quickly find the picture - it was in one of the media threads, I think.

I was the one with yellowed CC. I don't smoke but my computer is close to the window.

In your situation, yes it does look better with the look of a non-bleached skull. However, a yellowed CC on a snow white board would be a bit off...

I'm just trying to prevent this.

I guess if it came down to it, you could just Retr0bright when it yellowed.

Poor little boy. You'd better sell him to me. :P

P/s: try H2O2 30%. It probably makes the baby white again. I used to do that with my ABS DS. Not sure about cc cap.

I know CC's aren't ABS. So, not sure how they would react. CC has never told us what material his caps are made of.

CC should replace your defective keycap for free.

And send the defective one here. For, like, testing and such...

Now that I think about it, UV is harmful is almost every aspect. You can just see the type of damage it had on plastic. It's no wonder that it can cause cancer after long exposures. So of course, touching that now-defective cap will also give you cancer. Even worst, just looking at it can give you cancer.

Best if you give it to me so I can dispose of it properly.

It's scientifically proven that people who spend less time in the sun, tend to live longer.
