Title: Looking for kb
Post by: smoke070 on Tue, 13 November 2012, 09:16:01
Hi all, i'm looking for a new keyboard here and could use some advice.

Currently using a Das Professional S (brown switches - "silent" version) and I really want something much more clicky and I think i'd like something with cherry blue switches as if I remember correctly they are the loudest. I'm not sure how to describe this but I kind of want it feel like a typewriter where it takes a little force with key presses and is still very clicky. I think there was some kind of switch type like that. My knowledge on this stuff is pretty limited. Thanks in advance.

Yeah what you're describing is MX blue switches. If you need something stiffer, then look into buckling springs or MX greens.

Thanks. I probably should have also included i'm looking for something in the $100-$150 range and it needs a number pad as well.

I'm not really sure where to look around for these kinds of keyboards.

If you like the Das, I believe someone is selling a Das with Blues in the Classifieds right now.

You can actually get a Rosewill RK-9000 with mx blue switches for only ~$80 off newegg.com. Or you can get a Filco for $160 off amazon, but they're essentially the same keyboards. Das or Ducky shine II also comes in mx blues.

What about the Cherry MX Green? CM is selling a limited stock of keyboards with these keys lately, they're just like Cherry MX Blue, but a bit heavier.

I'm not quite sure, why the classifieds isn't everyone's first stop. If I'm looking for something I'll always look there first.

Full disclosure: I have things listed for sale in the Classifieds currently.

Thanks again for the help so far.

Currently looking into:
Rosewill RK-9000 (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=29)
Ducky DK9000G2 (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=45)
Ducky DK9008S (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=106)
Ducky DK9008 Shine II (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=106)
Filco Ninja Majestouch-2 (http://www.keyboardco.com/keyboard_details.asp?PRODUCT=848)
iOne Scorpius-M10 (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=18)
Ducky DK1087XM (greens) (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=43)

I was liking the RK-9000 but the mini-usb issues are concerning. I don't know if anyone has experienced that, but I do move around my keyboard tray quite often. The green switches sound rather nice on youtube videos, if anyone has more experience with them i'd like to hear your comparison between blues.

I'm also not looking into getting another Das.

Clicky, takes force, feels like a typewriter?

Model M should do it. Or if you want to buy new, Unicomp (http://www.pckeyboard.com/).

I believe i've used a Unicomp board and I wasn't a big fan, just felt mushy to me. Hard to describe. I'll take back what I said about needing force, I just like the sound of blues better I think.
