Title: G80 vs a Filco for gaming
Post by: Cafiend on Sat, 17 November 2012, 13:19:32
Do any of you G80 owners prefer it for gaming over like a regular mech kb?  (BF3,SC2 ect)

Some of the models seem well sized for larger hands. And they look really niiice.

I love G80, but only a few USB models that are currently available have better than 2KRO. Less than 6KRO can suck for certain types of gaming. Otherwise, you will want to buy a vintage AT or ps/2 model that has NKRO.

there are models with larger key caps? I thought they are all more or less the same.

They would all be the same since the switch is the same. The G80 is a fine board though. :)

Two key rollover is not good on my opinion.

Other than that. Not much different.

My G80-18251865 has NKRO (6KRO over usb).  It is the Cherry version of the Raptor board (that was made by Cherry).  I have brown stems with black spri ngs  in it.  It works great for  me for FPS gaming as well as typing.  I go back and forth between my Filco mx black tkl and G80-1825 for my daily drivers with no complaints.

Almost all Cherry boards are PCB mount. There are very few that are plate mount

Don't you have an 1800?  My 182565 is the same layout, but with diodes,  1unit modifiers, and win/menu keys.  PCB flex is only an issue when you apply way more force than you would need to type/game.

I don't have his cap puller handy, so I didn't pull a cap.
