Hey everyone good news! ;) I had talked to the GM at http://www.mechanicalkeyboards.com after I had placed a large order with them recently, and he treated me to some information that they would be releasing some Ducky full size and tenkeyless boards with the Cherry MX Green keys. Well no TKL so far :( but, here's the full size "ninja" style version for sale @ $139.00 retail.
http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=199
If you do end up buying this I ask that you PLEASE DO A REVIEW of this keyboard with pictures or better yet a video! ;D

Hmm Green switches. That keyboard sure does look nice as well. I am a gamer, playing alot of sc2 and LoL so I think the greens might be too heavy to be constantly pressing.

Yeah as a fellow game who plays WoW, Diablo 3, LoL, SC2, GW2 I'm not a huge fan of stiff keys like the cherry mx blacks. I still think they are great keys and would definitely use them over rubber domes any day, but I much prefer the reds especially and browns. I would however recommend someone try the blacks before going after greens if they are into gaming. I see the big appeal for these because green are very rare, its a limited edition keyboard and made by a quality keyboard manufacturer. I guess that the people who like blues for gaming/typing might enjoy these if they prefer a stiffer key or tend to fat finger keys a lot when typing.

Are they just partially backlit?
-
I believe they are for caps, wasd, and arrows.
-
I am so ready to get this, but my transmission just went out on my car. :( $750 to get it repaired. There went my money for this keyboard. I hope they have some in stock in a few weeks, but considering how rare these boards are, I doubt it.
-
I believe they are for caps, wasd, and arrows.
Just caps lock, wasd and arrows? I see..
-
Or whatever the basic set of LEDs they put on their other boards.
-
Placed an order for one yesterday. I am pretty psyched :)
-
Regardless, a really nice keyboard :) Honestly, sometimes I wish I went with this because of the availability of custom options for it. For my Ducky Shine 2 it's has to have all the keycaps baklit...so yeah. :(
-
Doesn't has to have.
Just becuase a keyboard has backlighting doesn't mean you have to use it. I have a few non-backlighable keycaps on one of my Ducky Shines.
Anyway turning the backlighting off is like using a keyboard without backlighting.
So don't let the lack of backlightable keycaps put you off from customising your Ducky :)
-
Hahaha I know ;D but still I did buy this keyboard mainly for the lighting...and I do like it to show hahah it's pretty sweet. But I get you, there are just too many darn good looking non-backlit keycaps that make me just not care about it so much loll
-
Just ordered my Ducky DK9008G2 Pro Limited Edition with Cherry MX greens... Here's to hoping that it'll be worth the $139.00. I have been very pleased with my gen 1 Ducky DK9008 with Cherry MX blues but I hope greens are good enough to warrant purchasing another expensive clicky keyboard :P Ducky. Greens. PBT keycaps. Free shipping... Nothing seems like it could go wrong... *Crosses fingers*
-
Nice, should be great. I wish I had PBT keycaps. Hahaha. It should be plenty worth it.
By the way, are you a fan of Mahoromatic? That is one of my favorite animes. :) Terrible ending though. But good overall :)
-
The Greens are incredible to type on. Not sure I'd ever recommend a 'Tactile' switch to any gamer though. I'd say the Greens are the closest Cherry you'll find to Buckling Springs. Super clean feel!
Also, if you're on the fence about this board, I would get one now in this first (limited) batch. Between you and I... Ducky forgot they put PBT caps and Green Cherry MX on these when they sent us pricing - this board should really be priced around $155 - $165.
More info:

-
Oh what? Really? Only $139 for a PBT board with Cherry Greens? That's actually a pretty killer deal. PBT sets are around $60 or so, usually about $30 more than an ABS set (non-double shot). That pricing makes sense, if I had the money I would pick one up asap, but I do game too much for greens.

Holy ****, dood. In the ten years I've used this username, no one has ever got it right. Yes, I'm a fan of Mahoromatic :9 Did you watch both seasons and okaeri? The ending wasn't too bad imo. Just a tad bittersweet :P If you like Mahoromatic, watch This Ulgly Yet Beautiful World. Long live Gainax!
Back onto keyboards, I have PBT caps on my blues with O-rings and PBTs are perfect for tactile boards. The harderplastic makes the click more pronounced. I will definitely have to experiment with my greens when it arrives.

Why, what's wrong with a clicky switch for gaming?
-
Additional noise distracting from the sounds in the game world?
Or in the case of MX blues, and presumably greens, that the release point is above the activation point, so double-tapping, or repeatedly tapping, is more difficult with these switches.

Hello, first post here!
I've been tracking the MX Green switch version of the DK9008G2 Pro since it appeared on Ducky's FB group, but now that the CM QFR and Trigger have MX Green switches for $30-40 cheaper, I'm a bit hesitant to jump on the DK9008G2 Pro. Ducky also mentions that there will be more MX Green keyboards coming (they hinted at a DK9087G2 Pro and perhaps their new Zero series). I'm just a bit worried that the US distributor won't necessarily jump fast enough.
Or, now that Shine IIs are back in stock at MechKeyboards...

Welcome to geekhack! Hope you enjoy your stay.
Don't forget that the ducky greens come with PBT keycaps. 104-108 set of PBT keycaps cost 50-60 bux alone so its a decent deal on that keyboard. PBTs on a tactile board is important for me.
Have you tried other tactile boards before??

Yes, sorry, forgot to mention I wanted to keep with PBT keycaps, which is why I've avoided the Shines that were available. But still, pretty LEDs.
I have tried out several switches at Micro Center and knew/confirmed I wanted an MX Blue type switch. I actually have a Noppoo Choc Mini on its way. I used an original IBM PC keyboard and a Model M keyboard ages ago. The promise of stiffer activation appeals to me over the MX Blue board I am getting.
e: my PBT Noppoo Choc Mini just arrived a minute ago!

Greetings all. Been lurking here for years, and figured it's about time I register. I just ordered one of these and can barely contain my excitement to receive it!
-
Welcome to Geekhack!
If this is your first mechanical keyboard, you might be in for a surprise with MX green switches :)
-
Thanks :) Not my first. Will be my third modern mech, not including my 1984 Model M. All three of my current keyboards are browns, but I'm psyched to play around with some greens. Worst case, if I hate it after some light use, I'm sure someone here will give it a loving home...
-
[...] I'm sure someone here will give it a loving home...
Understatement.

Indeed :) Ever since I discovered this site a few year back I've never hesitated to take a chance on a new mechanical keyboard. Up until now though I've loved all the ones I've bought. Hopefully this one works out too. It's going to be for my office, so no gaming, but typing all day. If the actuation force gets to be too much strain, it'll find a happy home. I have a feeling I'm going to love it though.

Dude, not to get away from the topic, but YES!! I love Mahoromatic. Seriously awesome. Yeah ending was bittersweet, and I saw it all, both seasons and okaeri of course, couldnt get enough. Yeahhh I remember seeing ur username and I'm like hmmm where did I see vesper...vesper...OH YEA!! lol :) I will definitely check out This Ugly Yet Beautiful World. Did you ever watch To Love Ru? That's interesting too, but a little different. Also fan of High School DxD, girls bravo, chobits, the list gets too long lol.

Yup, I would literally love it. Spent way too much to be able to afford one of these atm, so take care of her cyto!

Yeh, watched everything you mentioned :P I have watched pretty much every anime from the early 2000's so I love everything you've mentioned. Wasn't a big fan of To Love Ru though :P Don't forget Fruits Basket (manga is better but the anime is still good)!

Do you think these will sell well on here? I was hoping they'd sell for about $10-15 less than msrp if only opened to try out switch (assuming that I end up not liking them).

It's a limited edition Ducky...hold onto it long enough and I'd think it would sell for more if in good condition. Hoping to hang on to mine for a loooong time though.

Well it doesn't always work out that way (assuming green Cherry MX switch becomes widely available) but I'm with you on the part where I probably won't be selling mine for a loooong time... probably won't sell at all :P
MY DUCKY'S ARE COMING IN LATER TODAYYYY. I'm so excited, I just can't hide it~ :p :p :p

Hey, we 'jump' faster than anyone in the industry at new Keyboards and switch types ;) We 3-Day Air almost all of our keyboards from Taiwan the day Ducky / Vortex allow them out the door.
Also trying to get some Rapids in from CM with Greens as we speak (not a huge fan of the Trigger). They're only available on CM's site store ATM. It's funny how even the brands selling them will try to talk you out of buying the more expensive keyboards. "Are you sure you want Green MX?? They cost $25 more than regular switch." - CM LOL
-
3day air. I see why the markup... Just joshing ;)
It is nice to have Tiger Imports' deeper pockets to leverage the availability of niche items.
-
Just received my keyboard and freaking LOVING it! I'll post pics and what not later tonight :D

So I received my Ducky DK9008G2 Pro Limited Edition PBT with Cherry MX Greens and I'm happy to say I absolutely love the keyboard. The stiffness of the green switch make it feel unbelievably solid. I'd like to emphasize that this keyboard is made to bottom out because you won't be able to appreciate the stiffness of green switch itself until you're near the bottom of the switch. For example, I tried putting O-rings on the Greens and I had a really hard time distinguishing the feel with my old Cherry MX blue Ducky DK9008 with O-rings and PBT keycaps (near the top of the switch and just past the actuation point, the greens and blues feel very similar). Also, the sound of bottoming out with the PBT keycaps is softened by the stiffer springs and actually sounds very pleasant and I'd say they are surprisingly somewhat quieter than my blues. I tested the green switches with ABS keycaps and the click had a significantly higher pitched sound than with the PBT. Not that there's anything wrong with a higher pitched click but the PBT's definitely give it a more pleasant sound, trust me. I'm actually scared these are going to replace my blues :( I love my blues too...
The build quality on these newer Ducky's are superb! There is no flex on the upper part of the case like the older models of DK9008 from Ducky and the overall quality just feels like a tank. Anyhow, enough of my blabbering! Here are some pictures!

A good, succinct review, thank you for that. The comments about bottoming out the greens sounds familiar - I have the same feeling with my blacks (compared to MX blues).

Thank you for the review and pictures! Do you use your keyboard mostly for gaming or typing? Are you a heavy handed typer at all? How do you think these would be tiring to use for FPS gaming?

Thank you for the review and pictures! Do you use your keyboard mostly for gaming or typing? Are you a heavy handed typer at all? How do you think these would be tiring to use for FPS gaming?
I'm honored that your first post is a response to mine :P
Let me start out by saying that I have always thought that the Cherry MX Black switch is the best for games because of its stiffness and linear press (no interrupted feeling/sound and fast actuation). As for the Cherry MX Blue switch, it's my favorite typing keyboard because of the crisp tactile response and light press which allows for fast and accurate typing.
Now that I've got that out of the way, let me try to explain why I think that the Cherry MX Green switch is a great balanced switch right in between Blues and Blacks. This makes them great for gaming AND typing much like the Cherry MX Red switch. IMO, this keyboard can be seen as the exact opposite of the Cherry MX Red with the same appeal as the Reds. Before the Greens, I have used the Reds as a balance between a light switch of Blues (making them great for fast typing) and a linear press of the Blacks (making them great for gaming). This keyboard feels even stiffer than the Blacks but not in a bad way! The extra stiffness strangely makes the tactile switch bearable for FPS games and the actuation is higher than the blues so you won't have any delays in response (seeing that you don't usually spam the same key in FPS games). For typing, this keyboard is great for honing your typing skills because the switch is stiff enough that each key press is deliberate which is confirmed by the clicky actuation. For these reason, as long as you are pressing the right key, you shouldn't have any accidental key presses and every typo is your mistake. There is a drawback though... amazing as they feel, the switch is as stiff as they get and this can lead to fatigue for some people after long sessions of typing (but not for gaming imo). I have also noticed that my average WPM was somewhat lower than that I get on my Blues. On my Greens, I get about 98 WPM average vs. my Blues, which I get about 110 WPM on average. Don't let this deter you though because for many, this decrease in speed comes with greater accuracy.
TL;DR The Cherry MX Green is a greatly balanced switch with the appeals of the Cherry MX Blue and Blacks. They have the best of both worlds, making them great for gaming and typing but aren't really specialized in either much like the Cherry MX Reds. Don't let this hinder you though! Grab this keyboard, you won't regret it :D

Just got my DK9008G2 Pro today. This is my first experience with Ducky keyboards. Everything screams high quality: from the packaging presentation to the keyboard itself.
Now, for the keyswitches. They are definitely stiff, with the spacebar being especially stiff (might loosen up as I break in the stabilizers?). Something I will need to get used to. With the MX Blues on my Noppoo Choc Mini, it was much harder for me to avoid bottoming out when I typed. Here, the much stiffer spring encourages me to just hit the actuation point instead of pressing all the way through. It's amazing how such a simple change, a stiffer spring, makes a big difference in typing approach.
I will need to give this keyboard a run through a video game and type some emails (and give my fingers more of a workout) before I come to a more definitive conclusion.

I never had that issue because my old Ducky DK9008 with Cherry MX Blues because the space bar on that one has a Cherry MX Black switch instead of blue :P Still love that design choice (ergonomically genius imo) but I'm glad they kept this new one consistent with all green switches.

The black switch on the spacebar is actually a primary reason why I disliked the DK9008 when I typed on it. Call me odd, but I vastly prefer a heavier spacebar action whenever possible. I rest my thumbs on it, and given years of M's, no surprise that I'm prone to triggering the lightweight stuff (50g and under.) That and let's just say my typical response to backlighting on a keyboard is generally to take an axe to it. :P
Starting to think I may get one of these. Just worried because frankly, Cherry hasn't proven particularly ... long lived in my hands, I think is a good way to put it. Even when the keycaps aren't garbage (HI COSTAR) I usually have one or more flaky/dead keys within a year from normal use. Has anyone dealt with warrantying a Ducky?

Wait... so you disliked the black switch on the DK9008 spacebar but vastly prefer a heavier spacebar action whenever possible... but the black switch is heavier than the blue. Not challenging you or anything, just confused. However, I agree with you on the backlighting issue. I personally prefer a keyboard with no backlighting and would rather put nice keycaps on it for decoration :)
So how do you kill your keyboards so quickly? I'm assuming you are implying that your history with buckling spring makes you type really hard on the Cherry switches, which ultimately leads to them breaking??? My Duckies have served me well over the years so I haven't had to deal with their warranty service just yet.
-
****... Ducky DK9008G2 Pro with Cherry MX Greys are coming out... But I don't have any money left... This might be a good alternative for me because I couldn't get my hands on a Cherry MX Clear keyboard... Stop torturing me so sweetly like this Ducky...

That's what one would think, and what the specs say. But actually black and blue are both rated 50cN IIRC; the lack of a tactile click makes a huge difference. (Remember that I type primarily on Model M's which are 70-80g+.) I own a couple all MX Black boards and they feel much lighter than MX Blues and Alps. Plus the inconsistency would cause me to develop OCD. ;)

They don't break; they legitimately wear out from use. Not joking. Buckling springs last somewhere north of 2B keystrokes based on my use patterns - and I chew them up and spit them out as well over time. I just usually go through 2-3 keycap sets before the springs or plate give out. Cherry MX is rated for 50M operations - sounds huge till you consider I use the same keyboard, averaging 400 keystrokes/minute, for >12hrs/day, 7 days a week. (I use a program that counts keystrokes and logs them. Not the keystrokes themselves. Just the numbers.)
Which yes, works out to around 185 days (assuming perfectly even distribution across 37 keys) before I'm exceeding rated cycle of 50M. Consider it a testament to Cherry's quality that I'm probably actually getting around 75-100M operations out of some switches before they start failing. But that's not much use when they do fail.
-
Well, the Cherry MX blue uses a lighter spring than the blacks, and I believe the blues goes up to 50cN just before actuation vs the Blacks have a lil' more consistent weight throughout the key press but I get your point. I guess it all boils down to an individual's preference on what weight at which part of the actually key press matters when it comes to stiffness. LOL!
Thanks for answering my keyboard-kill question. Your answer actually gave me a lot of information on what to expect in the life span of my keyboards. Every time I spend more than $100 on a keyboard, I question if it'll be worth it in terms of life span, and your answer makes me glad that it can take over 50M key presses :D I tend to usually expect less than what's told from manufacturers but I guess I don't have to worry as much in this case.

So, I have most of a week's mileage on this keyboard. Everything I felt upon first impressions is still true: the MX Green's stiffer spring makes this switch what the Blue switch never could be (unless you type extremely lightly, you will bottom out with Blues). I am still amazed by the solid construction Ducky provides. This will be my daily driver until I get the itch to try something more exotic or expensive (ahem, Topres).
As of this writing the stock at MechKeyboards is down to 5, so these boards will be gone soon enough.

Well I emailed them about a out of alignment Scroll Lock key and they told me to send it in to get it replaced with a new one... hope they don't forget their promise... Lol. But seriously, the most solid keyboard I've felt yet. Absolutely in love with this thing... if I can find a set of green PBT's I'd throw them on and name my board The Hulk. Green on the inside, green on the outside.

I also want to thank you for such an amazing review. I prefer my FK-2001 because the white alps (simplified) are stiffer and extremely clicky. I'm excited to try out the MX Greens.

cool board for sure

You make a great salesman! ;) I just bought mine today before they sold out- thanks again for the informative response!

You're very welcome (assuming you're talking to me :P ). I just saw your thread on the classified! Makes me want to buy one of your Model M's!... but i'm broke nowwww :P

I got my Ducky yesterday. It's a dream to type on. The greens are not too stiff. I'm replacing a Razer Blackwidow ultimate with blues and the transition is seamless. The biggest difference seems to be in a certain keys like the backspace which has a certain "thud" quality to it rather than the "clack" of the other keys. Not bad but just different. The PBT keycaps feel great and hopefully the lettering on the front of the keys will reduce on the visual wear and tear. My scroll lock key is ever so slightly rotated and it's annoying because of the the LED panel it's very noticeable. Otherwise, it's a really quality product in terms of visual and tactile appeal. The noise levels are quite acceptable, I'm not bottoming out as much with the blues either.
-
I can picture the "thud" - I get something like that switching to blacks from blues, so I suspect it is a consequence of the stiffer spring. The stiffer springs would also be contributing towards the decrease in bottoming out.
All hail stiffer springs :)

Lol, looks like it wasn't only my board that had the slightly rotated Scroll Lock key... Looks like I'll be receiving another keyboard with a rotated key :(

Lol... that feel when I type on my Reds right after the Greens :P I feel like I'm trying to break the steel backboard...

Unless it's something very subtle, my Scroll Lock key seems fine.

Yeh, it's a pretty subtle thing. If you look at my pictures you'll slightly see the rotated Scroll Lock key. Oh well, hopefully this next keyboard won't have any problems. The previous one was perfect except for that one keycap... worried the new keyboard will have different issues... :(
-
I hadn't noticed.
Is the stem of the green switch twisted too?
-
I hadn't noticed.
Is the stem of the green switch twisted too?
I believe it's actually the stem of the keycap and not the switch itself. I put the Print Screen keycap on the Scroll Lock switch and saw that it was on there straight. I took pictures of this and sent it to MechanicalKeyboards.com but they insisted I just send the whole thing in instead of just sending me replacement keycaps. I'm assuming they don't have replacement keycaps for this keyboard because it's a Limited Edition board.
-
You'd think they would just send out a replacement keycap. Oh well.
Then you would wonder what they will do with the entire keyboard if/when you do return it if it only needs one keycap replaced.

Exactly... I'm assuming they'd just repackage and sell seeing that it's still in brand new condition... while praying that it doesn't meet an semi-OCD owner like me. Oh well, I would like to say I made it up to them by selling them about 3 more of these through this thread :P

Ruh-Roh! Only 1 left in stock! Wonder who's going to get it...
-
I ordered mine on Saturday when the stock was at five. By the next afternoon they were sold out. Monday evening and all day Tuesday there was one more in stock, but now it's gone, too. Mine should be arriving later today, and I'll be looking for the rotated Scroll Lock cap -- thanks for the heads-up VesperSAINT. I'd probably have been too excited about my first mechanical board to even notice the defect until a month or two after its arrival. And yes, they should send you something special for your salesmanship. Your review and pictures helped me make up my mind. Otherwise, I'd be going another $50 into debt on a Deck with MX Clears (although I still want one of those, too!).

I do what I can :P I'm glad I was able to help you decide on this keyboard. I think you'll love it and it'll be awhile before you'll start craving something else. The Scroll Lock thing is very subtle and may not be noticeable to many. I'm just really anal so don't let that bother you if you do get it like that. I actually wish I just got over it and kept my keyboard... I'm here waiting for my replacement now :P Thankfully I have other boards to rely on until my new one arrives.
I've actually really wanted to MX Clear keyboard too but all of them have been too expensive to buy :( I think I might just save up for the new Ducky with Light Greys but I get the feeling Clears will feel better... I hope WASD v2 has a Clear variation.... One can always hope...

Still waiting on mine. Been listed as ready for International Dispatch for 4 days, but seems to be just sitting there :(

This is pretty long-winded, so there's a Tl;Dr at the bottom if you're
lazy short on time.
Well, my board arrived a couple hours ago and I wanted to convey my impressions. This is the first mechanical keyboard I've purchased, but I gained a couple cumulative hours of experience on someone else's Rosewill RK-9100BR (the "BR" meaning that it has MX Brown switches). I'll talk about it before getting to the Ducky, so you know where I'm coming from. I didn't care for the Rosewill. The Browns are just too light and seemed gritty rather than tactile; the coating on the keys (it's a back-lit model) didn't feel right to me -- too dry, like a chalkboard, or matte black car primer that's been in the sun for two years without receiving its top coat; and the overall feel of typing on it was, for lack of a better term, "hollow," though I've read that this is a typical assessment of Browns made by those who are accustomed to rubber dome keyboards and is related to bottoming out on a plate-mounted switch. The minimal "dirty" tactile feedback, however, is something that I think would always make me crinkle my nose at the MX Browns. For light switches, Reds or Ergo-Clears would be a welcome alternative to the Browns' middle ground. That is, of course, if I could learn to type on the keys rather than attack them. I bottomed out constantly on the Rosewill, and strongly feel that some O-rings or Landing Pads would improve it immensely; but in the end, I think I'm just a heavy-handed typist in need of a switch that offers more resistance. I was delighted, then, to see this Ducky introduced with the MX Green switches, but apprehensive due to my general lack of experience.
My fears that the 80cN actuation threshold would be too much are now put to rest. When I die, I will be buried with this keyboard!
Regarding construction and materials, the board itself is remarkably sturdy. I could easily use this to bludgeon my neighbor's annoying yappy dog into a permanent silence, but I love animals (usually more than I love humans) and I don't want to have to clean blood and fur off my new computer peripheral. The texture on the touch surface of the PBT key caps is great -- just the right amount of friction to provide grip while still allowing fluid motion.
As for the switches and the typing experience, the transition from my previous keyboards to this one will be totally seamless and enjoyable. There won't be much of a learning curve; nothing to get used to. I'm already in love! :-* My previous keyboard experiences have been with (1) the generic standard-issue cheapie that came with this desktop PC; (2) a Logitech Wave which replaced that one and lasted a little over three years; and (3) a G-110 that was sitting in the Ducky's place this morning. I also have a Lenovo laptop, and although I really like the "crunchy" keyboard that Lenovo's are known for, I wanted more screen real estate and hooked up a 19" monitor to it... which then meant I'd also need a keyboard and mouse. Last year (before I "discovered" mechanical keyboards) I picked up a Logitech Illuminated keyboard. It has scissor keys and a very low profile, making it quite similar to a laptop keyboard, and typing on it is quite nice, but the key caps are made of really pathetic, flimsy plastic. "How flimsy and pathetic?" you ask. Ya know those SOLO brand cups you get beer in at a party? The ones that are red on the outside and white on the inside? The keys on the illuminated Logitech feel like that crap, but just a tiny bit thicker. And you don't even get any beer. Very disappointing considering the cost of the unit and the fact that the rest of the board is actually pretty nice. I was interested in MX Clears because of that board (and would probably love Light Greys) -- it has very pronounced tactile feedback and is fun to type on. My new Ducky, however, is superior to all of them, though this comes as no surprise.
The MX Green switches are in fact quite easy for me to actuate, but the difference between them and the MX Browns on the Rosewill I encountered previously is very, VERY noticeable! The Browns feel like they'd actuate in response to a hard stare, but these Green babies push back against my fingertips with a deliberate, springy pressure and provide very satisfying audible and tactile feedback. If I were writing up an advertisement for keyboards with MX Green switches, I'd use adjectives like "Tight, Smooth Action" "Crisp Response," "Snappy," "Precise," and "Exquisitely Refined." Also, I can relate to what VesperSAINT mentioned in his review about the increased stiffness at the bottom of these switches. Upon reading that, I was afraid I might find them "muddy," as some people have reported regarding Clears, but I wouldn't use that term to describe Greens at all. After the audible click and tactile bump that denotes actuation of the switch, the resistance does increase dramatically, but does not become what I would ever call mushy or squishy. The range of resistance offered by the spring in the Green switch is easy to notice when I press a key very slowly: if I stop depressing the key immediately after it actuates and then begin to reduce the downward force I'm applying, the force with which the switch presses back is rather gentle; but if I continue pressing to the end of the key stroke (i.e., bottom out), the upward force applied to my fingertip by the switch is much greater, much more... urgent. Thus, MX Green switches are not suitable at all for games or applications that require the user to hold down a key(s), but the strong resistance might make double-tapping quite easy, though I don't think I'm qualified to assess hysteresis, nor can I find a force graph. The effect during rapid touch-typing, however, is that this essentially solves my problem with the lightness of the MX Browns. The extra resistance that occurs in the Green switches after the click-bump is the perfect signal to someone just starting out with mechanical keyboards after spending years on rubber domes that they are approaching the bottom of the down-stroke, and that it's time to ease off and move on to the next key. In time, the click-bump itself will be the transition signal, as it's meant to be. I still bottom out quite often, probably due to my lack of experience, but it isn't as jarring and noisy as it was with the Browns of the Rosewill; I'm more accurate and not as clumsy. It won't be long before I learn to type on this keyboard without bottoming out at all. At that point, I may find the lighter switches more tolerable, but I doubt I'll ever stop loving the Green! (http://www.ebaumsworld.com/pictures/view/82948288/) (I may be new at GH, but I've been surfing the forums enough over the last week or two to recognize some of my own kind here ;) )
The Ducky DK9008G2 Pro Limited Edition PBT with Cherry MX Green switches exudes presence & personality when I type on it; it engages the user in a warm and welcoming way. It speaks to me. What does it say? "Don't just pound on me like a typical, bland input device; like I'm some drugged-out, disinterested ****. That's not me! I want you to interact with me. I'm a sprightly, 20-something nymphomaniac who eats Ecstasy like Skittles and I want your fingers ALL. OVER. ME!"
OK, maybe I've crossed into the territory of being a little too much of a fanboi. Sorry. I'll calm down in a couple days.
[/wall of text]
Tl;Dr -- If you're contemplating the purchase of a keyboard with MX Greens, stop thinking about it and get one now. You will not regret it! I especially recommend them to those who've exclusively used rubber domes in the past because you can bottom out on a board like this without getting the feeling that you're abusing it and injuring your own fingers. I also feel that MX Greens (or Light Greys) are great for newbs (like me) to learn how to not bottom out any more. Spectacular for typing, but may be problematic for some games.
-
An enthusiastic review :)
Now you've got me wanting one even more ...
-
mine is at the post office since my lazy postal worker, decided to not try to deliver it like their supposed to!
Unless of course I owe customs charges on it, but it doesn't mention it on my pick-up slip.
I get to compare it to my Leopold Clear, and a Ghetto Green QF.
-
:) Nice observations TwistedMentat! I can only imagine how exciting it is to type on the greens as your new mechanical keyboard! :D Unfortunately, imo, when it comes to stiff switches, it won't get any better :( You may only find more with buckling springs but I personally prefer Greens.
I think a comparison of Greens with Browns is probably not the best approach but it's what you had to work with so I don't blame you. If anything, you focused on the right things. However, I think after you've grown accustomed to the stiff MX Green switches, you're going to have a much harder time not bottoming out on lighter switches such as blues, browns, and reds (especially the tactile switches). I think it's always harder to transition from a stiff switch to a lighter switch because you can't control your strength. For example, when I first went back to my Blues after a week of typing on the Greens, I had a hard time typing accurately and fast because my fingers were confused with the feel. I was losing momentum because my fingers were expecting to stop pressing after a more work but with the Blues I'd have already reached the bottom with half the strength required, and therefore I'd prematurely have to force myself to make the next keystroke. However, this transition phase only takes a day or two with enough experience (my first mechanical keyboard was Blues).
I don't think you'll ever find yourself going to Blues after the Greens. It's just a really hard transition and you may find yourself feeling that there's something lacking in the Blues, like the feeling people get with any other tactile keyboard after having typed on Buckling Springs for years. However, I do believe that tactile-bump and linear keyboards still have a lot to provide in terms of a newer/maybe even better experience. If you end up wanting a lighter switch for gaming/typing, I'd definitely recommend MX Reds and for tactile-bump I'd say keep your interest in MX Clears and Light Greys.
Welcome to the jungle man... with this being your first mechanical keyboard purchase, you've just entered a new world of heavy spending and an addiction to button pressing :P

I've been playing around with my board for the past 5 days, and intermittently been lurking on this thread. Coming from my daily driver Leopold with clears, I do say it's been a work out :)). I've tinkered with my friend's Filco with blues but never really enjoyed it. Is a 5cn activation force that much of a difference betwen blue and clear switches? For me, I'd say yes. Greens feel different but in a good way. After nearly a week, greens have been enjoyable so far. This is my first Ducky (probably won't be the last) and first board with a dip switch so I feel a bit spoiled ;D. If it wasn't for this thread, I probably wouldn't have purchased this board and would've soldered greens on a poker or something, so thank you guys!

okay just got mine.
Its weird, but not all the keys are making the satisfying 'click' sound. Such as when I press the 'R' key, no click. there are a number of other keys like this as well.
It seems to 'click' if I press on it lightly, but when typing fast and hard, it makes no click at all. It seems to be a bunch of random keys doing this.
The 'L' key makes no click at all period. just a dull thud.
It this normal?
-
It is nor abnormal. A few people have reported that with blues - the keys register but without the tactilc click.
The Ducky with blues I am typing on now has that - the up arrow only clicks if I press it a certain way, and X too.
Try pressing the key from different angles. But as long as it registers it should be fine.

Hmm..
it just feels weird... I had another blue board, and bnow one with 'Ghetto' Greens and all the keys make a nice click.
I'm now debating if I should be contacting the vendor and see what they can do...
I payed ALOT in shipping to get it here, if I have to pay to ship it back its going to cost too much...
-
As long as the keys register, at least you can use the keyboard.
FWIW a couple of my keys that did not click now do click sometimes. The up arrow clicks most times.
-
All the keys register. It just feels really weird to type on.
I'm typing away enjoying the click and feedback of the greens, then I hit a 'thud' key and go whoa!! that's not right, and it breaks off my typing rhythm.
I just sent mechnicalkeyboards.com an email and see what they can do, if anything seeing as the boards are all sold out now.
-
Just got mine. First two things I looked at. Twisted Scroll Lock ? Nope! Keys not registering the click? Nope! Phew. Its is so wonderful, takes up so much less space on my desk in comparison to my Unicomp that it might as well be tenkeyless. Worst part it has to go back into the box and be wrapped for xmas. Only way the wife would let me buy one. ;D

Congrats on receiving a perfect keyboard! Lol, you sure do know how to work around the wife :) Skills.

Heh, the keyboard is perfect for me (I swap between my Noppoo Blue for gaming as the MX Greens are tough to sustain). Just noticed that one of my double shot ABS WASD keys provided was chipped. Hopefully MechKeyboards can replace this...
-
*sigh* so it's been a good 3-4 days since mechanicalkeyboards has received my keyboard... still no word back from them about them shipping my new one... I called them before shipping it off to make sure they put one aside for me before they sold out and they told me that they confirmed that they did put one aside for me but what is taking them so long to get back to me??? :( I want my keyboard alreadyyyyyy~ Just send me a flawless keyboard plzzz so I can just drown in the pleasure of typing on MX Green switches.
-
I've been loving mine so much I forgot to come back and check on this thread :D The only flaw on mine was a misshapen piece of clear plastic that allows the backlight on the Capslock to show through...it fell out when I first opened the board. I called Caleb at mechanicalkeyboards and he said he'd send me a new Capslock key, but I haven't received it yet. I'll follow up tomorrow. Either way, the board is fantastic. I won't bore you with details, but I agree with all of the glowing praise in this thread, and I'm happy to report tht I haven't noticed any issues with the switches.

I actually complained about the LED window protruding from the PBT keycap to mechanicalkeyboards too but then they told me that every keyboard had that issue so if you do get a replacement, please let me know because they told me otherwise.

Well ****, I've been using my replaced Ducky Greens (first one had a out-of-alignment Scroll Lock key) for about 2 weeks now and it's been good to me but today I randomly decided to check all my switches again and my numpad no.6 key doesn't have a click... It's like more like a broken MX brown switch... the key still registers but the switch is messed up... I can live with it because I don't use the numpad everyday but ugh... What to do... RMA will cost money too...

Shhhhhhh there's nothing to see here! Seriously though I'm sorry you're having issues with this thing. Besides the misfitting window on my caps lock key (they sent me a new one but it has the same issue), I absolutely LOVE it, and haven't had any switch issues yet. I'm actually considering buying another board with MX whites because I love the actuation force, but want to see if the white sliders feel better than the greens.

Lol! I love this keyboard too (hence the long review I did on my first one) but I'm kinda anal with consistency so I'm kinda ticked about this. I contacted them about the Caps Lock key too but they said that every keyboard had that issue so no solution there :(
Tell me how the whites feel if you ever get one and maybe I'll switch over to that one depending on how different it is... or maybe I'll just get the CM QF with Greens to replace this one. Hehe... maybe I'll just try to forget about it................ nope not gonna work.
The cheapest solution would be to find a soldering iron and swap that switch with another one on the board. Perhaps while doing that you could try using a different Blue stem with the existing spring to see how uniform it is.
Yeh... I wish I already owned a soldering kit.. *sigh* It'd probably be cheaper to just find the Ducky RMA person in the U.S. *sigh* Does anyone have information on this supposed Ducky RMA person in the USA?

well at least you only have 1 key that doesn't click. I have 3!! the 'R' key, the '2' on the number row, and the 'L' key.
Ducky said they would RMA, but still waiting to hear about details.
Ducky doesn't seem to like to answer emails! Last I hear from them was on the 15th!

Can you PM the email/contact information of the Ducky RMA services in the U.S. so that I can get in touch with them? Thanks!
I'm a fan of Ducky keyboards and have been for a couple years now (my first mechanical keyboard was a Ducky DK9008 with Cherry MX Blues which to this day runs like a champion). However, my friend's last order of Ducky keyboards (which includes my Greens) has been on the iffy side. My friend ordered a Ducky Shine II with MX blues and my Ducky with MX greens a month ago. My first Ducky greens had an out-of-alignment Scroll Lock key and the LED window on the Caps Lock key was not flush on the PBT keycap (was told this issue was normal on all Ducky PBT keycaps), and my friend's blues had a broken tactile switch (like my numpad no.6) on his R key. We returned both keyboards so that MechanicalKeyboards could replace them. Now I have a Ducky green with a broken 6 switch and my friend's new Ducky Shine 2 has 2 (S and E) broken switches. 30 days is up so we can't return it and need to RMA or just live with it. I can understand that this may not be Ducky's fault (nor Mechanicalkeyboards) because they may not manufacture the switches itself but it does bring somewhat of an awareness of how hardware quality control in many companies has dropped in the recent years (same friend had to get his Steelseries Sensei replaced 5 times within a week 2 weeks ago because of button and mousewheel issues) :( I still love this keyboard to bits and pieces but just this one switch :P
NOTE: I go to the "keyboards" section on the forum to see that the the first thread is this one of me complaining of switch problems and the second thread is someone else complaining about their Ducky Shine 2 TKL. Hopefully this is a coincidence...
-
well at least you only have 1 key that doesn't click. I have 3!! the 'R' key, the '2' on the number row, and the 'L' key.
Man, so sorry to hear about that Vesper.... I bought the 9008G2 Pro Green board (mostly based on your review on this thread), and it has been a sublime experience thus far. I doublechecked that all the keys click/register and made sure my scroll lock key wasn't misaligned, so far so good. The talk in this thread does have me a little nervous, however.
For the record, my caps lock key window is a little off as well.
I hope you get everything situated, buddy.
-
i almost bought the ducky with greens, but opted to be cheap and get the QFR with greens.
i loooooooove it so much. I hate the feeling of blues, they just feel so wobbly to me when i really get into a typing groove.

Thanks! I'm glad that your keyboard doesn't have any of the problems that I had :) Don't get me wrong, my initial opinions on the keyboard from my review hasn't changed. It's an awesome keyboard... with just a lil' bad luck, I guess :P I wouldn't worry too much if I were you though. My friend and I are probably just outliers.

Hmm I don't know if i'm allowed too. I got the contact info directly from MK. They asked them to email me directly.

Don't worry about it then :) Please give me an update on how it all went down and your experience once you get it fixed. Thank!

IMO Greens are great for gaming. They spring back up so strongly double tapping is never a problem for me.
-
After some of you who have typed on CM / Ducky Greens for a while do Ghetto Greens really feel the same or are there some differences?
They feel a tiny bit stiffer then the 'Ghetto's'
-
Hmm Ducky support here is not so good.
After finally getting a reply to my RMA (had to send a reminder email to get one!) they send me an address to ship it to in the US, but not WHO to ship it to!
Guess i'm supposed to make up a name to ship it to! maybe Ducky?
Now I got to wait FOREVER for a reply to that, and what I need to include. The keyboard obviously, but do I need to include the original boxm cables, etc? and will I get it back?
sigh, now i'm sacred if I sent it in, WILL I ACTUALLY get my keyboard back?
At this rate, I might get this fixed by this time NEXT year, and maybe more boards will Greens around....

I am actually thinking about maybe just keeping it as it is..
maybe putting an 0-ring on the not clicking keys will make it feel better.
I already miss the Greens after re-hooking up my Blacks!
Blacks feel too mushy now!

Hehe :P I dont think putting o-rings will help because even with o-rings the clicky actuation is still the main feel of the switch and you'll still feel the absence of the click and then a soft bottoming out :( Honestly, either just living with it or getting it fixed are the only real solutions. But there is no harm in trying everything :)

Stupid question: Why not just order a handful of green switches and replace the few busted ones on your board?
-

I don't have soldering equipment atm and don't know if I want to void my warranty just yet.
-
Stupid question: Why not just order a handful of green switches and replace the few busted ones on your board?
I might, If I could solider!
Green switches are hard to come by as well.
Seeing as how my progress with Ducky is going, I don't think the breaking the warranty is deal breaker!
It like they don't care, they take forever to reply to any emails (IF THEY REPLY)
If Ducky finally gets back to me, I might take it for the team and report progress on the whole Ducky RMA process for others.

You'd be a champion if you could do that :D Let us know how it goes!!!

Yeah, it seems like Ducky has absolutely no intentions of standing behind their product. That's an absolute deal breaker with me. Especially since this seems to parallel the new releases. Probably 8 out of 10 times, that only happens because they know they're shipping junk and they can get away with it. (See also: Razer)

I would hardly call what they ship junk (that would be Razer as you correctly mentioned), but they should be upping their customer service presence overseas. I can only imagine it's even worse with Vortex as they have absolutely no web presence.

I agree, I think it's silly to call Ducky products junk just because the US customer service seems to be lacking, even if a few people are having some issues with this board. I feel for you guys (truly, because I LOVE mine and wish everyone could enjoy it the same way), but personally, I'd just void the warranty and replace the switches myself. Easy/cheap to get from 7bit over at DT, and it's a good opportunity to learn to solder. You can get a soldering iron pretty cheap these days, and it's really not that hard to replace a few switches. There are tons of videos showing how to do it here and elsewhere. There are also some really good samaritans here that will do it for you, probably for free, if you send them your board and pay return shipping.
-
I wouldn't call Ducky Junk. Their Quality control is lacking as well as customer service.
Other then the defective keys, I love the board!
I can't solider at all, and I am not good at stuff like that. I get frustrated too fast with finky stuff like that.
So i'm stuck with waiting for Ducky to ACTUALLY respond to email or finding someone to fix it for me!
Or better yet finding something who is planning on taking a trip to HK and can get the board fixed directly with Ducky!
-
Okay, i'm going with the Ducky RMA route! The RMA guy finally got back to me.
I will keep you all updated as its progresses.
Its just going out today so will probably be some time before I can post any updates.

Lol! Blacks feel amazing too just not as much fun. You'll be reunited with your love soon :P I feel like my keyboard is starting to break in (actuation is starting to soften up a bit) and the whole thing just feels a lil' softer or my fingers are just getting used to it. Don't know if I prefer this but still do love this thing, that's for sure :P

It's not breaking in, your fingers are just getting HUGE from all the high-pressure actuations! :D Work's been insane for me lately, which means more time on this keyboard...18 hour days, but at least I'm enjoying typing all day?
-
I just noticed yesterday that when I'm typing very rapidly for longer periods, my space bar squeaks...anyone recommend how to deal with this? I'd rather not lube unless I absolutely have to, because it leads to a dirty keyboard no matter how little you use. But the squeak is really starting to piss me off!
-
Lube the stabilisers?

Lube the stabilisers?
http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=34332.0
Yeah, like I said, that's an option, but I've seen some people say it goes away after a while on Duckys, and I'd rather not lube the cherry space bar stabilizer unless I have to because it attracts grime and it's inside of the case, so harder to clean if that ever happens. At this rate though, the squeak is going to drive me nuts, so I'll probably end up lubing.
-
I have two Ducky Shine (both version 1), and neither squeaks.
Maybe make sure the keycaps are properly seated. Maybe mash the key for a while. It might go away by itself.
-
The keys are all great, but the space bar won't shut up and it's actually getting worse. I ordered form GPL-205 to lube the stabilizer and hopefully that will keep it quiet.
-
Hm.. Green, it sounds very heavy. Maybe it will feel like those old typewriters? ;D

Pretty much. It's awesome.

Okay, the Ducky RMA guy just got my KB today.
According to the tracking anyways!
Lets see how long it takes him to contact me!
-
A quick update, well there is nothing to report!
the Ducky Guy got my KB 2 weeks ago, with no reply's to any of my emails with updates.
Maybe he decided to keep it?!
Oh well, just sent another email with a 'HIGH PRIORITY' tag and see if it gets answered this time.
-
Thanks for the update. No news is not necessarily bad news - there isn't really any historical precedent for this.
Hope it works out soon :)
-
The keys are all great, but the space bar won't shut up and it's actually getting worse. I ordered form GPL-205 to lube the stabilizer and hopefully that will keep it quiet.
The GPL-205 did the trick immediately. Tiny dab on each side of the stabilizer, and no more squeak.

Would you be kind enough to post pictures of where you applied the lube?
Sure. Look at image 3 of 4 on this page: http://www.elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=access,misc&pid=mechlube#
I put a tiny dab at each of the two arrows, on both sides. Immediately removed the squeak.
-
I tried doing that with EK's lube and the lube just ran past the bar and straight down onto the plate behind it.
That's why I went with the GPL-205. It's VERY viscous. You couldn't make it run if you tried. I bought it off Ebay in a pre-filled plastic syringe. Was designed for SCUBA-gear use, but it's perfect for this sort of application.
-
Well, I finally got a reply, well 2 in the course of a day (WOW!) after I sorta complained about having no updates!
Looks like the switches are replaced and the KB is on its way back to me! WOOOO!

Good to hear! Sounds like they have some communication problems, but glad to hear it turned out good. Guessing they didn't want to say anything till they had it fixed - really hate that personally. But hopefully it's all fixed. :)

Yes, it would of been nice to get an email once they got the KB in. Then another email saying it was fixed and ready to be shipped back. Then a last one with shipping info.
-
well if you still hate it i would be more than happy to pay a little bit more then full retail for it :)

Thanks for the updates, dood! I am still annoyed about my one switch being all fudged up but now I don't know if I want to send it in for just one switch and have to deal with what you had to. How much did it cost to ship it to them? My messed up switch is the numpad no.6 and I don't know if it'll be worth the shipping costs.

ARGH!!!! Don't tempt me! Lol.

It was about $20 for me, might be cheaper for you since i'm in Canada. It was shipped out to California, so depending on how much it would cost you to ship a KB there is your cost!

I just received my very first Cherry-based keyboard in the mail today -- a Ducky SE with the MX Green switches. I went for the greens because all my other keyboards are Model M's (buckling springs) and the greens seemed to be the stiffest. But really, as I type this -- people make it sound like pressing the keys require Hulk Smash level force, and they don't. I'm not disappointed in the slightest; the keys are nice and snappy, the sound is..... eh, different from buckling springs, a bit higher-pitched, a more techy sort of *tik*tik* sort of sound. Very nice to type on. And all the keys click. Really glad I picked it up, seems like it would be perfect for typing. But still surprised at the force required -- not that much at all. Makes me wonder if other Cherry switches would feel too light.
Anyway, great keyboard so far!

Good for you... Looking forward to get my hands on one of those. :-)
My not all key clicking is returning to its maker today.
I agree, from all the comments, I was expecting much stiffer keys. But it's not bad at all.
-
To be fair, the switches are nearly twice as stiff as reds and browns, and still noticeably stiffer than blues and even blacks. I think the point of most of the comments is that for people used to typing on pretty much any other stock variety of MX switches, the greens are noticeably stiffer (in a good way). Hope you guys enjoy your new boards!
-
I really love my QFR with Greens. An earlier post hit on that you wont enjoy going back to blues, and I'd have to agree. I was never really a fan of the blues anyway, they felt too wobbly to me. The heavier spring of the green remedies that for me and makes the switch feel much more solid and "worthy" of that satisfying click feel.
I'd like to replace the QFR caps, but man key caps are expensive.
-
Sigh....
I think the Ducky guy either lied about shipping my KB, or its gotten lost in the mail!
I keep emailing him back to ask if he shipped with tracking or not, but still NO reply! :(

Dood, I'm so sorry to hear about your terrible experience. Such bad luck :( :( :( Strangely, my numpad no.6 key fixed itself! It's so strange... maybe it got broken in or the lighter fluid I dabbed in kicked in few days late?
I hope your keyboard is returned to you soon!!! Such a great keyboard but your experienced is ruined bc of a few bad switches.

I kinda wish I kept it now. Even it was on the main keys.
I also wish the Ducky guy would quit ignoring my emails!
-
A small update.
the Ducky guy FINALLY got back to me, turns out he was out of Country.
Looks like he shipped it to a wrong address and USPS was holding it.
Said he would fix it with my correct address and get it sent out ASAP.
So now MORE and MORE waiting.. sigh..
Hopefully it comes NOW!
-
Hopefully you'll be thrilled when you get it back and it will all have been worth it!
-
Hahaha I know ;D but still I did buy this keyboard mainly for the lighting...and I do like it to show hahah it's pretty sweet. But I get you, there are just too many darn good looking non-backlit keycaps that make me just not care about it so much loll
The case of this keyboard is the same as the Ducky Shine 2. There is a reason why this keyboard is the same money as Shine 2 with PBT keys and a rare switch.
You can make your Dhine 2 light up the exact same way. It's a little weird to think the Shine 2 has less when they give you so many lightening options to play with.
Edit: whoops, looks like I necro quoted.

IT CAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was begging to think my KB was lost!
According to shipping label it was shipped out on March 12.
So that's not bad for the 2nd attempt at shipping to me.
There is no sign of first label where it was shipping to the wrong address, I would be curious where, Ducky guy won't comment.
Could be he just shipped it late and didn't want to admit to it (no way to prove that), so i'll give him the benefit of the doubt that it was shipping wrong first of all.
All the keys seem to click now so thats good :)
Can't say it was worth it yet.
Need to do more typing and further testing.
Ducky should pay for stress relief if you RMA a KB!
Bottom Line, at the moment, Don't RMA your KB with Ducky, FIX IT YOURSELF!!
Am glad to have a fully clicking KB now though.

Oh boy I really want the Ducky - especially those green switches
Hopefully the DK9008G2 will be available again soon.
MK is shipping worldwire, right?

I don't know if the green MX version will become available again because these were limited editions but MK does ship international from my knowledge.

Hmmm. There's a chance that I may sell my Ducky DK9008G2 Pro LE Greens sometime in the near future. I'll be sure to let you know if I do. There were also some other people in here who were also interested and even willing to pay above MSRP.

Tired of it already? I'm still loving mine. Been my daily driver for months.

Tired of it already? I'm still loving mine. Been my daily driver for months.
:P I'm definitely not tired of them but need to compromise somewhere in order to be able to make other purchases. I absolutely love the greens but I would also love to try Clears and my green keyboard is the only piece I own with a high enough resell value for me to finance the Clear purchase. I might just buy the Clear keyboard, do a comparison, decide which one I prefer and sell the other. However, this will probably not be for another couple weeks. If I do end up selling my greens, it will be a sad day :(
-
I really like my blacks too (although I think I could like reds too). Wanna try greens so bad... Ducky plz

Personally, and I have tried every MX switch, I definitely wouldn't choose the clears over the greens. Now unless the clickiness of the greens annoys you....that's another story :)

LOL! Did you get to try all the switches from your Ducky Shine II 78 Version?! :P
I love the click! I just also own a Cherry MX Blue keyboard that also clicks just as well, if not better (older blue). It's just something about a clicking keyboard and its more complicated mechanism that makes it feel more premium and expensive. Hmmm- this one will be a hard one :( I guess I just won't know until I've tried the Clears. Thank you for your input though! It definitely helps to have others' opinions because it helps me step back from bias. After this, I just have to try Topre.
-
I've tried all of the MX switches, but until I started using the greens every day at work I wasn't sure what I was going to stick with long term...but I've found it in this kb. I love every single thing about it, even the quirky window on the caps key has grown on me.

Hehe, I can totally understand you finding everything in this keyboard. It's definitely the most solid keyboard I've ever felt or owned. It just seems indestructible, and the fit and finish on this thing is beautiful even without any custom keycaps. Of course, any Model M fans will lynch me for that comment :P i've also learned to live with the windowed caps because I've owned multiple Ducky's over the years but I'd say they're still not ideal :P Ugh... I dunno if I'll be able to let this baby goooo but I will only know after I try the Clears.
-
Yeah I like your idea to buy the clears first and try then out, and THEN decide what you want to do with the greens.
-

Yeh... Looks like I'll have to live with a $150 hole in my bank account for at least 2-3 weeks :(

I have Leopold board with Clears.
It's different feeling then the Greens, even without the click.
I switch between them on 2 diff systems.
starting to enjoy the Ducky board again now that i've been using it for a couple days again. Starting to settle into the nice clickness of the Greens!
Guess I can say i'm glad I got a fixed board.
Now was it worth it to get a fixed board, with all the fuss I went though? I guess.... the board works good now.
The only thing that makes me feel good about this matter is Ducky spent more money on shipping to board back to me, then I payed to ship it to their RMA guy!

Now was it worth it to get a fixed board, with all the fuss I went though? I guess.... the board works good now.
The only think that makes me feel good about this matter is Ducky spent more money on shipping to board back to me, then I payed to ship it to their RMA guy!
Lol! Bittersweet revenge :P Ugh... Now I'm scared I'll end up living with the $150 dollar hole in my bank account and keep both............................ ffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu~

At least you have the green Ducky - consider yourself lucky ;) (and pls don't sell it)
I'll probably have to wait a few more years... Even the green CM qckfire isn't available in EU :S

Why not sell it? So I won't have seller's regret? Lol, if that term even exists. I'm sure even if I don't sell it, you can get your hands on one soon. Ghetto Greens supposedly feel really damn close too so there's that option too.
The only thing I prefer the Blues over Greens is the relief/drop after the click of the actuation point on the Blues. After the click on the greens, you are met with an even stiffer force, which isn't a bad thing but just different. I think this makes the tactile click seem slightly softer on the Greens than on the Blues but this may be purely subjective. I guess I like the two for different reasons but I don't prefer one over the other.

"Ghetto" greens don't feel the same as real Greens.
Real Greens have a stronger click to them, and require a bit more force.
Not sure I'm going to keep my 'Ghetto' Greens board anymore though, now that I have the real thing.
I actually got my 'Ghetto' from someone here, with a trade for a Blue.
Not sure though, maybe if Ducky finally released the 'Grey' switch board
I will then need some cash to buy it!

OOO thank you for that. Now I don't have to wonder what they feel like :P Hooray for real Greens!
I was really tempted on the Greys tooooo but I think I'll stick to Clears. Please do write a review on the Grey switches when you do get them though. I'm very very curious on how they differ to Clears.
-
Well 'Ghetto's are not bad. They feel better then Blue's, at least I think so anyways. They feel close to Real Greens, so if its your only choice. You shouldn't be disappointed!
Well i'm not sure I will be getting a 'Grey' board or not. Thinking about maybe 'Whites' as well.
Don't really have and spare cash to buy any more boards, even if they eventually get released.
Would need to sell a board or 2 to finance it! Will do a review on one, if I get it though.

True. Well for me, the level of tactile-ness of the click is one of the most important factors so this helps me realize that Ghetto Greens just won't do for me, if given the choice :)
I'll be hoping you get to finance the Grey board! :P
-
LOL! Did you get to try all the switches from your Ducky Shine II 78 Version?! :P
Haha, you got it! Between my green board, my 78, and my HHKB, I'm totally done collecting keyboards...I hope!
After this, I just have to try Topre.
That is a whooole 'nother ballgame. And the tickets for that one aren't cheap :))
-
Heehee~ I know... Topre might never happen... Unless I sacrifice like 2 keyboards to the keyboard gods and throw some extra wads of money at them too :(

Sound of MX greens switches: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B4oMfUG6gwOZNVpVdm5nT04wMHM/edit
Filmed with my mobile phone so don't expect too high quality. This is with the grey case and keycaps. (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=467)

Yep, but you shouldn't be posting someone's address in the public forums!

On the topic of Ducky RMA, I'm not sure I want to send my board in after reading this.

Double Post please delete....tapatalk is being dumb today.

Depends..... do you want free Stress? then go ahead!
speaking of RMA's my Ducky has since developed some more non-clicky keys, but i'm going to ignore them. Not going through this RMA mess again!
-
Ok, we'll I send my keyboard in for led fix. Hopefully they fix it since I just got it about 2 months ago too.
Next keyboard I get will be a non led one too much hassle fixing an led.
-
Just to clarify:
MechanicalKeyboards.com handles the vast majority of Ducky RMAs in-house now. (as of about 4 months ago)
Ducky happens to have a tech visiting in California at the moment, so we are diverting any unusual / higher level problems his way while he's in the US.
Any type of standard RMAs like malfunctioning LEDs, switches, etc. should be in and out of our shop in 2 - 3 weeks or less. If you have any RMA you've sent to us in Tennessee that has taken over a month, please follow up with us to get an updated status: support@mechanicalkeyboards.com

Update on ducky rma process

And still nothing back. They told me last week they send it on Saturday but still nothing this week.
I'm thinking it got lost on mail or I got screwed.

Yeah....I've got issues with my ducky and they wanted me to send it to the guy in california to. I decided to to live with it. Probably won't buy anymore ducky keyboards.

Hate to necro this thread, but it's on topic, and updating my previous posts about loving this keyboard. I've been using it as my daily driver at work for more than a year now, and I still love it, but the "3" key on my numpad has stopped working, and the tales of RMA/repairs haven't been great with these keyboards from what I've read. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
-
Either repair it yourself or find someone in the area who can for a beer and slice of pizza.

Check the warranty status, if you can. If it is still under warranty, opening it will void whatever warranty is left.
If you want to continue, open the case, locate the numpad 3 key under the PCB and, carefully, with the computer on and the keyboard connected, short out teh two pins with a length of wire.
If "3" starts appearing on the screen, you will need to replace the switch (desolder old, solder new).
If "3" does not appear, there are other problems.
-
Thanks Rowdy. I'm not sure the warranty matters given the issues that others have had getting theirs repaired. I can't lose thing for a month or more, might as well buy a new everyday keyboard.
But I'll your instructions a whirl and see how it goes.
-
Finally got around to trying to fix this. Shorting the pins worked. After I shorted them, the switch started working again. The keyboard was clean, inside and out, so no ideawhat caused it, but I'm not complaining now that it works. Thanks again Rowdy!
-
Spoke too soon, it stopped working again. I assume I need to replace the switch. Anyone have a spare MX green laying around they want to send me? :D
-
You could try posting in the free stuff (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=34585.0) thread - although primarily for giving things away, occasionally someone will ask for something very small as a one-off.
Strange that it worked for a little while - that makes me think that it might not be the switch. Maybe a controller that is on the edge, and a little jolt of power somehow nudged it into a working state for a few minutes?
Anyway if you are happy to replace the switch, I doubt it would make things worse, so at least you would eliminate that possibility all together. Just make sure you test the switch before you solder it in ;)

If you cannot find a green switch, don't forget that you can reuse the existing green stem and spring. Then just use the switch housing from any donor mx switch that works. ;)

I was afraid of that. Not a problem to replace the switch, just concerning that I've got more problems on the way. I LOVE this keyboard...PBT+greens is really perfect for my every day driver at work, so I'm hoping it lasts.

I considered that, and I have a few brown switches laying around, so I could always vulture parts. Never tried it before, but it's not like I'm lacking for info around here :)
