Title: Lower weight MX springs
Post by: Kruen on Sun, 25 November 2012, 06:42:10
Hello :)

Do replacement springs for Cherry MX switches such as the Korean ones come in lower forces than the ones normally found in Browns and Reds (45g)? If so, where would I be able to get some from?

sherryton will have some for sell soon. Korean spring is measure on bottom force not actuation force. Red stock spring have about 60 bottom force so Korean 55 or 52 would be actually lighter. I plan to get some of those myself.

Also, won't going too low in spring resistance force prevent keys from resetting properly? I don't know if anyone has tested the minimum force required.

the force just needs to overcome the weight of the stem+cap

lol imagine Ergo Red switch, it's like typing on cloud of... air?  Though I'm curious what switch you guys want to put the springs in.

You can for example take the springs completely out of MY switch so only the leaf is left for about 20g and it can reset fine even with heavier Cherry doubleshot. Real light spring will for sure be non issue on linear. Might be a little more of a concern on tactile stem like clear since it have a big hump to overcome on reset. Keycap and stem less than 5g unless you have gold keycap or something.

I have some 55g springs in my red switches right now. Very light and smooth after lubing it. These may be too light for some people though. When you rest your fingers on the home keys, sometimes that's enough force to press it down. But it just feels great to effortlessly tap it and it actuates. Korean 55g springs + lube job is my personal favorite of all the switches.

55g springs in reds are incredibly light.  The difference between stock reds and 55G Korean spring reds is night and day...the Korean spring variant is much lighter.

Wow!  Thanx for these infos guyz!  I Look forward to trying out a Lite Red keyboard.

Or we could make a CherryRealForce with normal Cherry Red keyboard but these Korean 55 springs under the pinky keys!

But I prefer uniform weight.  :)
