CURRENT STATUS: PACKING AND SHIPPING
Hello everyone,
I've got 20x PHANSI150 stainless steel plates. If you're building a PHANTOM, this is what you'll need to achieve 1.5x-1x-1.5x modifiers with 7x spacebar like my mine below.
Note: The 4 stabilizer switches (Shifts, Enter, Backspace), excluding spacebar, have issues with removing the switch top housing. This is inherent from the original PHANSI150 design. Also, when you receive these they may come a little dirty and warped (weather, travel, handling, etc.). Simply run it under some luke warm water and pat it dry to fix the dirtyness. To fix any warpage just use something heavy to flatten it out on a desk or use the edge of a table to straighten it out.
To fix the 4 switches mentioned above, check out this video from WhiteFireDragon:
Also, you can't anodize stainless steel so you have to either powder coat, spray paint or use electrostatic paint to change it's color. You can also "blue" it, which is a nice black finish.
Price is $18 + shipping (international or CONUS)
Shipping CONUS48 is $6 via Priority with DC. International is roughly $12 via 1st Class and only customs tracking.

I was a reserved slot but no luck in finding a Phantom so you can take me out :(
Thanks bro.
-
You sure you don't want one just in case? =)
-
Seems way too hard to find a pcb so I've ventured into new projects :S appreciate the offer and for holding one for me, these are really cheap! Maybe later on if you can't sell them all which I doubt
-
Interested, please and thank you! :)
-
Dat case!!!! You always have the coolest stuff!
-
Sifo, there's probably going to be a second Phantom run in the future, so buying one could be an investment for the future! ;)
Dan, do you have any good pictures of the plate? I need to decide whether or not I'll need to colour it in some way (ie ask everyone I know if they know someone who knows someone that can powder coat or something). :>
-
Should have a finish similar to this:
-
For people who do already have a phantom from the phantom gb, you might still what to consider this. The plates with the phantom GBs are aluminum. Dan's stainless steel plates should be heavier and much, much stiffer. It should provide a slightly different feel and make your keyboard just a tad heavier.
-
They are about 1/2 of a pound per plate and surprisingly strong.
-
Should have a finish similar to this:
Looks pretty much like stainless steel then. No surprise there, I guess. :> Either it will look great in my case (litster \o/), or not-that-great. I'll just have to wait and see!
By the way, I think I read something in the Phantom thread over at DT that you could remove the switch top even from the stabilized keys, after somewhat of a modification of the plate. Can't remember what this mod involved though.
-
haha good work, dan
but i need pcb first. LOL
-
There must be far more plates than PCBs that this point!
-
i'll take one bronies
-
I'm still debating if I actually need one... I may design my own plate and case... hmmmm but for $20. Can't go wrong. Thanks for the reserved spot Dan!
-
i'll take one bronies
Talk to uncle Dan, he's your man
-
I don't have a phantom, yet but put me down for 1 ^_^
-
I don't have a phantom, yet but put me down for 1 ^_^
Something I have that you don't? Woah!
-
BTW - I built Dan's proto. The plate is very stiff and heavy in comparison to the original aluminum plate. If you're into a nice solid board this will help get you there even if you're putting it in an acrylic case.
-
Yeah, it's super heavy and solid. Weighs about the same as my Cheat
-
Pics up later today and invoices/shipping will go out daily from this point on. First round of those invoices will be tonight via PM =)
-
Will we be able to pay a little later or on receipt of invoice?
-
How much time do you need?
-
Friday.
-
Yeah absolutely no worries. Shall I sign you up?
-
"don't worry me none, long as that pay check show up on Friday"
In for one.
-
Yes, I'd like one please.
-
Gotcha, added you guys.
Also....reserved slots 1 and 2 will be held for a week (deadline 12/12). If you don't claim your prize, it'll go up for sale =)
-
How much is shipping to the UK?
-
How much is shipping to the UK?
For a 1 lb. package, it's looking to be approximately $12 USD for 1st Class International (2-3 weeks shipping time, but I've seen faster) with only customs tracking. Customs Tracking uses the customs number to track the package whilst still in the US. That same number sometimes gets passed through your local (Royal Mail) post and can be tracked once it arrives there, but keyword here is sometimes.
-
just wondering
can i mod the quickfire rapid TKL to put this plate?
-
Put me down for one, yo.
-
That, I have no idea =) You'll need to dig through the endless pages of the Phantom thread or ask someone knowledgeable (not me!)
-
Not as easily as just swapping out the plate. Would require PCB modifications and modifications to the plate.
-
Dan, did you file your plate to accommodate the fixing of the switches that are problematic, or anyone for that matter. I want to fix the problems before I take mine to get painted eventually.
-
It's a straight forward operation, but since this is a steel plate it either takes a ton of time or nice tools.
Here's the pics (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=36039.msg692646#msg692646) and description. Turns out only 1 set (upper or lower I don't recall) needs it. But you either get a small file and a couple movies or you have a dremel handy with the right bit.
-
Thanks...I'll have to dig out some tools:)

feng is selling the Acrylic Case for Filco & CM Storm
In that thread someone said the Acrylic Case can fit for phantom....
any clue?
-
damn that looks sickk
-
I've been throwing money at my screen for so long for this. My wallet is ready, Dan!
-
Hey Dan,
In for a plate.
Thanks!
-
Pics are on the front page of the plate and closeup of the finish. Sorry for the potato pics, daylight has left me already =/
-
Very nice. I think I want to paint mine a nice red to match the case and caps.
-
For all the American buyers your total will be $18 + $6 shipping (priority w/ DC) + 3.5% paypal fees.
For all international buyers, your total will be $18 + $12 shipping (1st class w/ customs tracking) + 3.5% paypal fees.
Invoices going out shortly with jdcarpe getting the first one =)
-
Paid with a quickness
-
Quickness buys you shipping out tomorrow =)
-
Will you include a matching bare PCB if I chip in like $2 more?
-
Will you include a matching bare PCB if I chip in like $2 more?
haha, ya me too except I can only toss in like 50¢
-
Where would I get PCB's from >_> Someone else needs to run a GB for that, soooo many people would want it and be sad that they didn't buy this plate.
-
So some additional things I should let everyone know, even though I already sent out invoices and people have paid me :P
When you receive these they may come a little dirty and warped (weather, travel, handling, etc.). Simply run it under some luke warm water and pat it dry to fix the dirtyness. To fix any warpage just use something heavy to flatten it out on a desk or use the edge of a table to straighten it out.
OP updated.
-
Its so temping! But its useless without a pcb lol....I would even run the GB if someone will design it
-
The PCB design is already done. Try talking to litster to see if you can get the schematics for it to run another small GB. All I did was ask for lit's permission and he was on board =)
-
Ugh fine...you win again dan...I'll take one
I'll shoot him a pm and see if he'll be kind and share with us
-
I already paid, but I'll take another one if there are some leftover. I want everyone who wants one to get one first.
-

You can buy 2 or more. There isn't an exhausting number of people who have been wanting these =)

Paid and YGPM :)

Note: The 4 stabilizer switches (Shifts, Enter, Backspace), excluding spacebar, have issues with removing the switch top housing. This is inherent from the original PHANSI150 design.
Dan, the mod is pretty simple. Just file the upper corners of the 4 switches holes. It takes like 10 minutes if you have a dremel. Since this poker plate is an exact copy of the phantom design, the same thing should apply:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3CetdXi7AI (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3CetdXi7AI)
just wondering
can i mod the quickfire rapid TKL to put this plate? 8)
What are you looking to get out of this plate? Your CM already has a steel plate. It's impossible to make this work with CM quickfire because modifer sizes are different. You need to drill holes in the PCB to match the plate, and those exact locations already has electrical traces.

Thanks for the video WFD =) I'll put it in the OP. Since mine's already on my Phantom, I'm too lazy to make the adjustment myself

Wait what, is it possible to use Cherry PCB mounted stabilizers on a plate?
-
PAID! :P Thanks again Dan!
-
Wait what, is it possible to use Cherry PCB mounted stabilizers on a plate?
I don't think you can on the Phantom plate design. I had to use Cherry plate mounted stabilizers on mine. Even the Costar ones are a pain in the ass and may not even work...

I used PCB mount ones to test my poker and it worked just fine. The trick is to install the PCB stabilizers then the plate.
Also, Costar worked on the two plates I tested and weren't hard to install at all

Does the Phantom even support PCB stabs?
-

yes

PCB Cherry Stabs?
-
PCB Cherry Stabs?
Is there any other kind of PCB mounted stabilizer?
-
Doesnt remeber seeing holes on the pcb for cherry pcb stabs but might be wrong....
-
scratch that, not pcb mounted.
-
OK thanks demik. So CoStar or Cherry Plate mount stabs...
-
yes sir
-
Where can u even buy cherry plate mount stabs i know where to get pcb mount...
-
Mouser has 74 2x left as of now. I don't know anywhere that has 2x PCB on hand today.
-
It should have PCB mount holes since it didn't require a plate to begin with

Wha? which board are you talking about?
-
Wait what, is it possible to use Cherry PCB mounted stabilizers on a plate?
The stabs mount to the PCB, and go thru the holes in the plate. Right?
-
That's how most Korean boards do it... but they have the hole in the plate sized for it. I don't know how tight the plate mount hole is compared to that.
-
The poker plate I made works with PCB mount stabilizers
-
Mouser has 74 2x left as of now. I don't know anywhere that has 2x PCB on hand today.
So they do carry plate mounted stabilizers after all? Could you please give me a link?
And of course, after having read what you guys have written I realized PCB mounted ones won't work since the Phantom PCB doesn't have anywhere to place the stabilizers... Well, at least not to my knowledge.
-
I have issues with mouser links
http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Cherry-Electrical/0G990224/?qs=%2fha2pyFadui%2ff77L2%2f6q1E9TeTSTHkqalUnHyJbKl9I%3d
just search for G990224 if it doesn't work
Sent via PM to me
-
Seems like there are some confusion about plate, PCB, and stabilizer compatibility. Any plate that can accept plate-mounted cherry stabs will also work with PCB-mounted cherry stabs because it just slides through the plate hole, nothing is actually mounted on the plate. For this specific case, this is irrelevant though because this plate ONLY works with phantom PCB and nothing else. Since phantom PCB does not have holes to mount the PCB-mounted cherry stabs, you HAVE to use costar or plate-mounted cherry stabs.

I can verify that those are indeed 2x plate mount stabs and come with all the plasticy bits and 2x wires. I ordered the same mouser part for my phantom. You are still going to need to bend your own space-bar wire though, but it isn't too hard if you have time and patience (and wire).
-
Thank you SmallFry!
I searched for it for quite a while on Mouser's website but couldn't find it, so that link makes it much easier. Would've ordered some instantly if they hadn't that 20€ shipping. Luckily enough I'm able to solve this in different ways!
It's a bit funny you can't seem to find these in Europe though. :>
-
And that they sell the small ones but not the space bar ones, especially since Cherry are from Germany..

does this mean i can use plate mount cherry on my KMAC and its friends the KPAD and KMini?
-
Also, you can't anodize stainless steel so you have to either powder coat, spray paint or use electrostatic paint to change it's color.
You could ask a blacksmith or gunsmith to have it oil quenched or blued.
Blued steel > black-anodized aluminium, in my opinion. That is the process used on guns.
Oil quenching is much cheaper. It is the process used for black nuts and bolts.
-
does this mean i can use plate mount cherry on my KMAC and its friends the KPAD and KMini?
No, The holes on Korean boards don't have all the extra stuff to deal with plate mount. The holes are just rectangles rather than the complicated design you see here.

well :( but o well now i dont have to go hunting down plate mount ones.

Most plates have been packed and ready to ship. I ran out of packing material last night, so a few people's will go out tomorrow. I'm collecting more orders today and sending out any additional invoices tonight =)
-
Its so temping! But its useless without a pcb lol....I would even run the GB if someone will design it
bavman,
If you're willing to run a GB for more PCBs, I'm definitely in for one. On a related note, bpiphany who designed the Phantom PCB told me that pcbwing has the Phantom PCB setup for him as a "speed order," or something like that.
-
Not to derail too much, but it'd be awesome if we can get a case GB going too ^-^
-
Not derailing at all =) People need these plates if another PCB GB is going to be run, amirite?
-
Not derailing at all =) People need these plates if another PCB GB is going to be run, amirite?
nope they all need my plate to achieve the best layout ;)
-
I also thought instead of rerunning the same PCB we were going to make some improvement possibly like make a v2.
-
Maybe, but why wait for that if some people need them now. I've been asking for a Round 2 Phantom GB since I joined GH in March. If we could even just get another round of PCBs right now, we can source everything else.
Edit: I was also politely told to wait until the original GB was completed and check for a leftovers sale. AFAIK, the GB was completed when everything shipped this summer, and we sill have no leftovers sale.

I pm'd litster and he said he'll talk to whoever to see if we can do that. I'll definitely ask him about how we can use pcbwing too so we don't have to waste time.
-
That died off when the GH60 was picking up speed...
-
That died off when the GH60 was picking up speed...
Yep. But I think we need both, Phantom and GH60. The only real improvements to the Phantom I could justify would be revising the PCB for SMD diodes and an integrated ATmega controller chip, like komar did with the GH60. Maybe holes for PCB mount switches and stabilizers.
-
Guess I'll have to reserve myself an extra plate if you guys get that GB going =) I don't think it'll be very expensive and MOQ likely won't need to be that high.

Those were the exact improvmnts I was thinking of also a nice case that can be available to everyone
One other thing that need to be fixed but is now thanks to hazu tranquilite and a few others was the cruddy firmware but like i said thats fixed

komar007 may be willing/able to make those changes quickly to the Phantom PCB, if someone wants to approach him about it. If he is even interested in the Phantom project. And permission from bpiphany to make those changes would be needed of course. I'd say Phantom rev 2.0 PCB GB is imminently doable, but it will require some coordinated efforts.

Agreed, but I think we all constitute as thread crappers, at the moment. Lets get to a different topic...
-
Hopefully, Dan won't mind. Maybe he will sell the rest of his plates. :D
-
I'd like to keep any technical discussions out of this thread only because they're more useful somewhere else. I've never minded thread crapping, so that's not the issue =)
-
/me lets the VTEC kick in this thread.
Threadcrap complete.
-
Maybe once bavman has more info from litster, et al., he can start an IC thread in the Group Buys subforum, where we can discuss these technical issues.

Warning: Potato cam. I had to build my own boxes, wrapped in bubble wrap then rewrapped in brown paper. All packages will be marked 'FRAGILE' also, so hopefully it arrives safely to everyone.
The following orders going out today: jdcarpe, SmallFry, frukstund (customs tracking later today), Acetrak (to Prof), mysterkawa, metalliqaz
-
Woohoo, soon! \o/
-
Thanks Dan!
-
All packages have been dropped off at the post office, so people should start getting them hopefully this Saturday. Everyone should have received their tracking number (via Paypal email or PM), but if you didn't, please PM me.
Outstanding invoices: boost (Friday), rknize, esoomenona and bavman (just sent invoice). If you guys can pay me before 10:00am CT tomorrow morning, it'll be in the mail tomorrow.
-
paid
-
Wow you even custom wrapped and packaged them. I would have just thrown them in a medium flat rate box with some newspaper...
-
$6 shipping versus $11 :/
-
Too bad you can't cut some kind of backing material like MDF. However these plates are damn strong and may not require it.
-
Hey, Dan. Can I add a second plate and get reinvoiced? I am CONUS, btw. I'll send payment for that right after. Thanks a lot!
-

You sure can. I'll send you a new invoice =)
-
With the GMK thread and my RL work and responsibilities, I'm hoping to get all the paid orders shipped out today. Gotta get on building some boxes! Updated OP.
-
esoomenona, duq and rknize packages going out today.
Outstanding invoices: boost, hoggy and bavman
-
Got mine today! Very VERY well packaged. Thank you Dan! Got a 7bit plate to make into a lubing station and a GH key that was a nice little something to sweeten it all. :) Thanks again Dan!
-
Glad it arrived safely Nate dawG. Hoping the same for everyone else...
Everyone has paid so those will be going out today.
Only 4-6 left!
-
I received my plates today. Nice packaging! They have quite a few burrs from the cutting process, but some careful attention with a flat needle file took care of those. I also performed the stabilizer pin mod per WFD. And sanded with 80 grit sandpaper. Looking great now! I think one of these is going to get a coat of paint before installation. Thanks for getting these for us, Dan. :D
-
My plate should be here today, now I need a phantom!!!
-
Gogo Phantom PCB round 2!
-
Any word on that yet? I'm sure people would be buying up my plates if that went through =)
-
I have one of each already! HEHE!
-
/me needs more Phantoms.
-
Got mine today. It's quite solid. Thanks!
-
Good to hear they're arriving undamaged =)
-
Mine were in the process of being delivered, but I wasn't home... I won't be able to pick them up until Friday or Saturday.
-
Mine was undamaged too
-
Package arrived unscathed. Packaging did its job. Thanks Dan!
Now lets get the round 2 phantom PCB going!
-
Couldn't get out the plates today for hoggy and bavman. Tomorrow's a really busy day for me, but I'm hoping I can make it to the post office before they close. Sorry bros.
-
Mine were in the process of being delivered, but I wasn't home... I won't be able to pick them up until Friday or Saturday.
They shoved mine in my mail box, which is fine, just odd that they didn't drop yours off in your mail box Moose.

It's not too big of a deal for me, really. I have something else on the way too, which definitely won't fit in there, so I'll hopefully be able to pick them both up then.

You probably just have a bigger mailbox....
please abstain from using this post to make sexual innuendos
-
I can fit my arm up past my elbow into my mailbox. Unfortunately UPS takes advantage of this and abuses federal law. What can brown do for you?
-
yup. he went there.
-
Never back down from a challenge.
Only 4-6 plates left depending on how you count... someone with a distinct case of boredom could PtP wire up a keyboard on these things.
-
Mine arrived to day. Seems like a very nice plate! :> Thanks Dan!
It looks a little bent though, so I put a couple of (heavy) books on it. Should probably do the trick.
-
Mine had various metal 'nips' on it that will have to be sanded off before it can be used.
-
Got my plate yesterday and this thing looks great!! The only down side is I don't own a phantom :(
-
Time to get a GB going? ;D (With a case too I hope)
-
Case later. Need PCB!
-

Wow, that was fast....
Yeah, likely it got warped during transportation. I tried to flatten them out as much as I could before sending them out =/
-
Not as easily as just swapping out the plate. Would require PCB modifications and modifications to the plate.
Why PCB modifications?
I'd love to have a thick stainless steel plate in my Filco...I've got some tools to mod the plate, but not the PCB.

Oh, so I suppose that's what the 150 part of PHANSI150 means, as apposed to the PHANSI125 plate (I'd assume that's what it's called?)

Yeah, five days must be some kind of record. I'm quite amazed since the postal service has had a lot of problems during the last week due to massive amounts of snow. On top of that I live out in the countryside where they don't even bother to deliver my mail at times. :P
No biggie, I think it would work as it is now, but I'll straighten it out to avoid any mistakes. Then I'll just have to sand or dremel those stabilizer mount corners away. Will be interesting.
-
Oh, so I suppose that's what the 150 part of PHANSI150 means, as apposed to the PHANSI125 plate (I'd assume that's what it's called?)
Yes, exactly. The_Beast could have a PHANSI125 plate made for you during the mixed bag plate GB, if you ask him for it.
-
Out of stainless or alum? I suppose that's a question for him lol.
I'm waiting on my plate from WFD, but if I can get a stainless one too, I'd like to compare.

I think it is also referred to as PHANSIWIN, that's what the DT wiki says at least :p
-
I have an aluminum PHANSI125 plate, if you want it fl0w3n. Just pay shipping. Comparing that one to the stainless ones from Beast, the stainless wins all day.

Everything shipped! Now buy the rest of the plates =)

Looks like I had just enough plates....keeping one for myself too >_> Invoices will likely go out tomorrow, need to take care of the keycap pullers first.

I picked mine up from the post office yesterday. Even in a box, they were slightly bent... Not too bad though. They look good. Thanks, Dan.

Also...I promise, invoices going out today.

Remaining invoices sent out. I'll begin shipping as early as tomorrow afternoon =)

Just received the last payment. I'll be packing and shipping them tomorrow.
Sorry for the delay everyone

US people should have received their tracking number via Paypal. International people will have to wait until tonight for a customs number =)
Packages will be dropped off at the post office in the next few hours. Thanks for all your patience
