And really, who doesn't know how to use a search feature that's on a boutique/niche forum like this?

Low post count /= newbie anyways.

14 posts = newbie in my book...

Just standing up for all newbies here when I say that it really isn't nice to be hard on someone who is still new to the community.

Remember, we were all newbies once too...

Help out the newbies, don't ***** at them for their lack of knowledge.

He's been here as long as I have.  In fact, he's signed up for one of the GBs I'm organizing.

What I'm saying is you're defending someone that doesn't need defending.

If he had said something like "Oh, I just found this and it seems too good to be true" or "Are these real?" then you would have more ground to stand on.  This just smacks of someone that rushed to show off (why buy two when you don't think they're real otherwise) and didn't verify.

But anyways, holiday season and all.

Ease up dudes.  zhuangqdcn isn't a name I recognize so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

OP, the community is already well aware of this, but thanks for posting it anyway! :)

Do look for existing threads in the future though (the "zomg new cherry escs!" thread is currently about seven lines below this one in the Great Finds subforum index).

You see, it's stuff like this that makes me hate Geekhack sometimes...

Y'all are too quick to tear apart someone for a poorly judged post, when you could instead take two seconds of your time and help them out in a polite manner that doesn't involve degrading comments.

EDIT: Thanks hashbaz, you're a good Geekhacker.

You had better hope I don't get you for Secret Santa...

Way to sound like a real asshat.  You ride in here on a mighty high horse and talk a big game about how everyone else is the problem while doing the thing you're *****ing about them doing, namely being quick to tear someone apart.  There seemed to be little drama until you decided that you were better than everyone else and decided they needed a talking down to and I just called you out on your bull****, which I'm sure is caused by other personal issues that you've partially shared earlier today.

But if this is the real you, I'm not sure what to say to that.  You're usually a fairly cool guy, but you sound like a major league ******* right now.

Don't take this personally, tj.  I just get pissed at random situations like this.  Someone posts a comment, I think it sounds rude, I defend the OP, things escalate, etc.  Action = reaction.

On that note, no hard feelings.  Was trying to make a point, but I guess I took it too far...

Lots of discussions on me... I don't think 5 bucks is too expensive for any kinds of fake DS red esc... plus, I also buy other stuffs from elitekeyboard, so just add these two caps to save shipping cost...

The funny thing is the one I won at auction and the five I just bought from EK will be here within a day or two of each other and yes, I will do my best to take good pictures and make as thorough a comparison as I can.

A company in Germany called GMK was recently discovered by the forum (and apparently earlier by the guys that run EK) to have bought all the original cherry molds, dies and machinery.  Genuine cherry stuff secondhand is about to have the floor plummet from underneath it.

I thought cherry has ended up the prodcution of DS line in 2009... So that means GMK has producted "authentic" keycaps for 3 years?

That's correct, we only found out a couple of weeks ago, however.

No, I think they just recently purchased the equipment.  It's also entirely possible that they're the manufacturers of the originals and had signed some kind of no-compete that ended recently.

As far as I know, GMK has been using Cherry Doubleshot keycaps on its own keyboards for years, so it's no surprise if they ended up buying the DS equipment from Cherry.

The orange on grey keycaps from SKIDATA keyboard is a good example. They were manufactured by GMK.

Dang, this thread was like WHOOOOOAAAAA DRAAMMAAAAAA then you brahs hugged it out and my entertainment ended.

I wish I had bought one of these along with my CC to save on shipping. Just owning it and knowing that these were worth $200+ at one time would've justified the purchase... Is someone going to tell me that these are different? :P

I'm sure we will. It's just that they will mostly be expensive POS... and not on eBay :))
