Some people swear by them while others can't stand them. It's down to your own personal taste just like many things in life/the keyboard world

I have trouble typing without one, been using them for more than a decade.  I'm not exactly sure if it really it ergonomic but it does hurt when i have to type without it.

I always had one on my rubber dome keyboards.

However, I've found that because my rosewill has profiled keys, I don't need one anymore. At least, I think thats it.

It's not good ergonomically because when you rest your wrist on it you are compressing your carpel tunnel.

That being said, I type faster with my wrists somewhat anchored on them and it is more comfortable to relax your hand on them when gaming rather than either hovering for long periods of time or resting it on the table surface which is lower and harder.

Mr. Interface said that he had severe wrist problems when using one that he did not experience prior to doing so. This was when he was using a rollermouse free, which is kind of like a combination wrist rest + pointing device.

I used to rest my wrist on the table top when typing and started feeling pain so I figure I should try a wrist rest. After a year or so it came back so I got rid of the wrist rest and hover my hand like I'm supposed to. No more pain

Same for me.
I know you should use the wrist rest to rest your hands on when you're not typing and hover when you're actually using it, but resting my hands on it whenever I type or game is great. Although I will often automatically hover when typing since not being anchored to the rest means it's easier to move. Might be because I don't type "properly."

I'd say give it a go, like Beast said it's often love it or hate it, and personally I think it's worth the risk as the benefit if you do love it is greater than the disappointment if you don't.

this depends on how the person uses the wrist rest. which is why i prefer the term "palm rest" instead.

I tyhink it is to me it feel seird to use a keyboard without one. I also think that cherry switches cant be fully enjoyed unless used with orings but that just another personal preference.

If your elbow is Above the table, or "on" the table, You don't need a wrist rest.

But if your elbows are below the table and hanging, then one usually do need a wrist rest.

Wrist wrests are really ergonomically dangerous.

Its better not to have one.

Ok but if won't listen to me and u insist on having one then
1. Make sure it is soft, like one of those rubbery ones.  NOT HARD PLASTIC.  Not wood.  Not iron.  Not steel.

2. Do not ever type with your wrist flat down on the wrist rest.  Raise your hands up in the air while you type.

3. If you have a sideways keyboard then it is totally ok to rest your wrist on the soft rubbery wrist wrest sideawys.  By holding your wrist on the wristrest sideways you are not smashing your tendons down into your bones.

If you type correctly, with your keyboard in your lap then you won't want or need a wristrest.

> Why is it bad to type with my wrist down on the wristrest?

I'm glad u asked that :)

Think about what you are doing for  a second.
Most of your finger muscles are halfway up your arm.
They pull and release tendons.  Tendons are like pieces of string or fishing line.  They are long and thin.  If you bend your wrist very far or if you smash your wrist down on a wristrest then those long thing lines are dragging against the flesh and bone inside your wrist.

Your wrist bones are called Carpal bones.  Ppl who use their fingers a lot, or with great weight, with bent wrist or pressure on wrist have a really good chance of stripping out their tendon sheath in the carpal bone area and causing horrible tendonitis or carpal tunnel syndrome.

Trust me, u do not want to do that.

I find a wrist rest to be unnecessary when standing.

Never used one. I push my board back so I have over a foot from the edge, elbows on table, wrists in the air. I never had pain in my wrists.

Thanks for the clarification, helped me out as well because I was thinking to get a wrist rest, but don't need one as I rest my elbows and wrists on the table.

Hated them my entire life, until I got these (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004D8PYE2/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00)

they're the perfect height for mech boards. Now I can relax my hands completely while I type, which is actually better for them. I've relieved a lot of tension I didn't know I had while typing by using them, despite what some may preach in here.

They are for me on the current set of keyboards I  use.  I just use a cheap gel one from a generic office supply store.

I have a big fat gel pad that I love, but I also have a big tall keyboard.

Since I am not actually "typing" much of the time, I rest my wrists on the pad when I am thinking or reading, and pick them up to do my typing.
