You've convinced me, I just clicked the BIN price.
-
I don't understand why he didn't buy all of them if he was going to sell it.
I appreaciate his thread for sharing the find but it doesn't make sense at all.
-
not bad, if it were a dyesub version.

It is dyesub...
-
As it is a H-ASRO board, why it could have dyesub keycaps...

Sorry, but as far as I could recall, all Cherry dyesub boards are coded to start with S instead of H. But this one is coded as HASRO.

I don't know why other than maybe the language stuff, but it's even in your quote twice that it's dye-sub...

Anyway, it's really a nice board. I would be willing to trade with my G80-5000 plus cash to trade for this board, if there could be any possiblility ;-p
-
IMO, that's a bad exchange.
This keycap thing is tulipmania. There aren't enough fools with enough deep wallets to keep it running indefinitely. It's worsened by the wide availability of quality new dyesub caps. If I want dyesub caps, I may prefer the new ones for the options they offer, or just the fact I can get them for less than $200 per set.
The 5000 is unique and interesting and will always command a premium because of its distinct features.
Pop the caps off this thing, and you've got an old G80-3000 with blacks, no different from a million others, worth probably 30 USD.
-
Not that I think $2000+ for this keyboard is the right price, but if you can find me a NIB G80-3000 for $30USD, I would love to buy a few from you.

Ah, you updated your avarter ;D
-
yes, it is $5 a pop now.
-
Fine, 70 USD is more likely. A used one is worth about 30 IMO. Although if you're spending the cost of a G80-3000, now there are better choices.
-
the one I received has all dyesub. normally dyesub starts with S, but I guess this one is an exception.

Oh, I thought that was just the manufacturer's name, and this was a Hasbro Ultra Zangief Action Keyboard Figure.
-
They were made with Cherry and ABS Elektrotechnik of Liepzig, which if you know would have been in the DDR at the time this board was made. These were probably intended for USSR. They are also not labeled as G80, but ESA so there is not normal Cherry part scheme here.
So not only is it a cool board, but has some interesting historical significance.
-
That really is a cool background for an interesting keyboard, it has its place in history. So the keyboard was made in 1989 or earlier? Let me open it up to see what it looks like inside.
-
worth every 100 dollar bill......:))
