Title: Free Clack, finished and winner announced!

So instead of auctioning a CC for GH I thought that I would just give one away, the auctions are always won by those that can afford to be really generous which is great but it doesn't allow those with less disposable income to obtain one. I am well aware that those who have an MX board will want to trade this and I am fine with that.

Rules!

1. You must have at least 100 posts.
2. You must name your favourite number and explain why it is your favourite.
3. The numbers 42, 4:20 and 13 will earn you instant disqualification, it can however be a number in any form i.e. fractions, natural numbers etc.... The more interesting the better, if you can provide a nice bit of mathematics with your number then you will stand a better chance.
4. I will cover shipping to anywhere in the world, this will be posted after Christmas to ensure that it gets through the system safely!
5. There is no requirement to own a Topre board and I will not try to make you sell it at cost in the future, it will be your CC so do with it whatever you want!
6. There is no restriction on those that already have CC caps although if this will be your first then I give you a bonus point.


This will end on Monday 23rd December at 15:00 GMT and I will announce the winner on the 24th just in time for Christmas :)

Wow! This is extremely generous of you!

My favourite number is 1.618... or the Golden Ratio.

Frequently used in architecture, as well as being found in nature, it is the most magical number if there ever was one! Things that appear in this ratio just look subconsciously "right" to people. I like to use this ratio as much as I can in design, graphics, even Minecraft creations haha... :)

Nice giveaway!

My favorite number is 9. We have a amusementpark in Sweden called Liseberg, when I was young I played on those spinning wheels, I won starprize (highest prize) 3 of 3 times played that time when I was playing on number 9.

Since then it has been my lucky number, I hope that it will bring me any luck this time.

Pretty much my number in everything, and it conveniently comes out a lot in my life, it's the number in my phone, IC, basketball jersey, and a lot more, and when my father passed away in April, one of his old friends came and told us when he was in the army, my father was the 11th member, which makes me realize that I have a lot to do with the number #11.

But, if I do win, give it to someone else. lol

Number 6 is just 3 x 2 and 3 is an unlucky number for me.
Number 7 is 4 + 3...3 again :-(
Number 9 is 3 X 3....3 three times= :-( x 3
Number 8 is perfect because it's 4 x 2.

7 is my lucky number. For as long as I can remember, everything has been in 7's or at the very least, multiples of 7. Also, I had an extremely good run with "Lucky 7's" lottery tickets. I bought 7 and won, using the winnings only to buy more, ect.

My favorite number is 12 (well, one of my favorite numbers)

The number twelve is intertwined with the history of the human race...

It is so common in commerce it has a special name: dozen.
Why?  It can be divided in halves, thirds, and quarters easily.  Need to tally more than five on one hand?  No problem, look at your palm and count the number of creases on your fingers.  Family units rarely get larger than that, so a dozen of something is usually enough for everyone. 

Oh, and how many Fn keys are there?  That's right  :cool:

Another number with close ties to twelve (and human history) is sixty: the smallest number that is divisible by 1,2,3,4,5, and 6.  That's why we use it for time (along with 12) :)

I was born on the 14th of December. It's double as lucky as the lucky 7. The last 2 digits of both my phone numbers are 14. If you multiply 14 by 2, you get my age. And Reaper removed the boob.gif that clearly had size 14 breasts.

My favorite number is 5341. There's not any math behind it, but instead, if you look at it using l33t sp34k it reads "seal". I used this as part of passwords that needed a number when I was younger because I thought it seemed cool since a password is suppose to seal away information.

Instead of trying to win you over with fancy math or interesting information, I will try to make you cry like a puppy to win with sympathy! I don't own any clacks right now. I had three before which I was only able to get because of click clack's dibs sale, all the other sales are way too frantic for me to ever be able to get something before they're sold out in the first few minutes.

My mom recently retired prematurely from her job because of depression, and I recently finished college so I don't have much money, I just finished my third week at my first job in four years. One thing that my mom was sad about was that she didn't really understand how to use computers and she sees my brother and I using them all the time to do lots of cool things. Basically all she knew how to do was send e-mails because that's something she had to do at work and that was through outlook only.

She had a second hand digital camera that one of my cousins gave to her a long time ago, but its really broken and keeps randomly turning itself off for no reason while you're trying to take pictures. She was kind of sad about this too because when she was trying to take pictures at my convocation (graduation) she was fighting against the camera and missed a lot of shots.

So recently I traded my click clacks here on geekhack to try to help her with these two things. I ended up trading all three of my clacks for an old tablet computer and an old digital camera. The tablet trade was a month or two ago, and I'm happy to say that now she's using it everyday for e-mail, looking up instructional pages/videos about how to do things she wants try on google and youtube (she was always impressed about how my brother and I would always find out how to do things we had no clue about using the internet), talking on skype and general internet browsing. I got the digital camera a week or two ago, and she'll be using it for the first time to take family pictures at Christmas.

So anyways, I'm super happy that I was able to trade my click clacks to make her happy because even though they're cool and I was happy to get them, in the end they're just plastic and there are more important things. At the same time, I'm also happy that I was able to make people who were interested in click clacks happy by trading old junk that they don't need for it (the tablet was an old HP Web OS one that isn't supported anymore and the camera was a Sony Cybershot that was sitting in someone's attic). People had been recommending I sell them for cash and then buy a brand new tablet/camera but I always prefer trading because it lets people get rid of things they don't use and get something they want for it.

Now I'm clackless, and it would be nice to have one again. I do have a Topre too, which I got in a trade for Magic cards which I didn't need anymore! :)

That seems flawed to me.  Why is there still a variable when you state that x = .9 repeating?

That should essentially read:

No 4:20....

Anyway my favorite number(s) has always been 9-18 or 918.  You'll see it in my email and handle everywhere outside of GH.

I was born September18th and coincidentally they are multiples of 3 and 9.  It's also an easy birthday to remember because you just double the month to get the day.  Surprisingly, Toni Kukoc from 3 peat Bulls era also has the same birthday...and is left handed also!

For my whole life, I can always remember seeing the numbers 911 in combination. From clocks, to food prices, to dates, and anything else supposedly random. At a point this started to really freak me out, and I thought "why is this happening to me, what does this mean?" And to this day I still have no idea what the answer is to those questions. However, I do know that I am not alone in this. If you look online, there are many people who suffer from the same problem. Some people see different numbers in combination, but 911 is definitely one of the most common to see.

I have looked in to the importance of the numbers 9 and 11 and what it could all mean. The number 9 has many meanings, but the most common one is: the number of the patience, the meditation. The number 11 has many meanings, but the most common one is: the number represents the symbol of the interior fight, the rebellion and the mislaying which results from it. But it also represents someone who comes out victorious of the tests with the acquired knowledge. In combination, these two numbers point to the significance of being patient with the internal conflict that one may have. And even before I knew about the true meaning of these numbers, it has always been important for me that I realize it is okay to be undecided, and that time will take its course.

1911 was also the birth, and start of many new ideas and events. Such as the famous pistol the M1911, or the opening of the first United States federal cemetery in Missouri. 911 was also designated as the emergency protocol number for the U.S. because it is short, unique, easy to remember, and the number had never been designated for an office code, area code or service code before.

TL;DR: 911 is a fascinating number shrouded in many mysteries and yet still offers guidance.

My ideal weight is 144lb, I'm way below at the moment, but I haven't been working out for months (years?).

12,24,36,48,60,72,84,96,108,120,132,144 yup, 144 is the square of 12.

1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89,144  that's right it's also the 12th Fibonacci number.

It has a lot of other cool numerical traits that I can't remember at the moment... just wiki it  :))

It was the year that the 7th emperor of the Han dynasty died, and seven's a pretty cool number in its own right.

I started reading about the number seven after watching the movie Lucky Number Slevin.
The number 7 is also known as a happy prime, which is AWESOME :D.

I like ONE. Because when I was born exactly ONE year later I was, believe it or not ONE! And ONE is the first number! "First" being another form of ONE. Zero is simply a placeholder for NONE and NONE is definitely not ONE aside from the fact that ONE is in the word NONE.  And also ONE is the loneliest number! My favorite number is 313 because it's symmetrical in both decimal and binary form (100111001). 313 is classified in many form of prime types (a long prime for example, longweight) and it is considered a happy number as well.

My favorite number is ℓP, also known as 1.616199(97)×10^-35 m, or the Planck Length. It's incredibly interesting to me it's the shortest possible measureable distance in the universe. This doesn't mean that it's the shortest length that could be measured by man, but that it's literally the universal definition for the shortest possible length of anything. Which means that it doesn't have any meaning to ask "What's a smaller distance than the Planck Length?". To me that's pretty staggering.

Camp site 35
Seven years ago some friends and I were supposed to go camping. We planned it out for weeks, and the four of us were going to have a blast in the Rockies(out near Leadville.) We were all going to meet up at campsite 35, which I reserved the previous weekend. Along my way to the mountain I stopped for some coffee and breakfast at a little diner on the highway. I decided to check my messages, as this was likely the last time in the next few days I would get a chance. It turned out none of my other friends would be coming, and I was kind of pissed. I figured, "You know what, I drove for 3hrs and planned this while thing out, and dammit I'm going camping." I arrived at the campsite and it was beautiful. The first night was great, albeit a little lonely, but still I had some fun. As I was turning in for the night, a light snow was covering the woods in a shimmering white.

Upon the next morning I woke up freezing, and poking my head out of my tent I saw the Gods had decided to dump a veritable blizzard down on the entire mountain. I decided it was time to go home, a short but sweet trip. My car(a ****ty Ford Festiva) was buried up to the hood, as I brilliantly thought to park it against a hill where all the snow decided to drift. I began the arduous task of digging out my vehicle. I was sweating, and the moisture almost immediately chilled on my brow as I flung the snow away from my tires. The car was almost out and I got behind to push, as I did so I slipped on a patch of ice and badly sprained my right ankle. "OK, this isn't so bad," I thought "I'll just go to the groundskeepers cabin and get some help." I dragged myself, ankle throbbing body freezing, to the cabin. When I arrived there was a laminated note on the door stating the grounds were closed and the groundskeeper could be reached at home. I pulled out my phone, and no surprise, had zero bars up on a friggin' mountain with snow dumping down. 'Well, this is how I die then' I thought. I was miles away from civilization without a soul nearby and I just sat on the stoop of the cabin for a while trying to work out a plan. I thought it best to just go back to my car and wait inside.

I sat there for a long time watching the snow patter on my windshield, eventually falling asleep. I slept through the entire day and most of the next night, waking up to munch on the few marshmallows and vodka I had brought with me. The next morning sucked hard. I was stiff from cold, and hungover when I woke up and was in an immediate bad mood when I realized I was in the same predicament I was in the day before. My ankle was swollen and bruised and my car wouldn't even start. I remember I kept trying my phone hoping some magical force would get me a signal, but to no avail.
Hours later, almost at dusk, I heard an engine rumbling through the snow. I opened my door and limped to the road seeing it was a local ranger. One of my friends had called him worried, stating I was to be staying at campsite 35 and to check if I was still there. The ranger found me and a wave of relief washed over me. He used his walkie to call a tow truck and gave me a ride back to his station.

TL;DR I spent 2 days freezing on a mountian drunk. The number 35 and a good friend likely saved my life.

Anyways, 1729 is pretty cool. It's one of the 3 only numbers where the sum of its digits multiplied by the reverse is equal to the number itself: 1+7+2+9 = 19, 19*91=1729.

1729 is divisible by the sum of its digits in the decimal, octal, and hexadecimal number systems!

Also, it's the smallest number that is the sum of 2 different sets of positive cubes: 12^3 + 1^3, and 9^3 + 10^3.

Yeah, I'll be honest and say I obviously used Wikipedia for the historical parts of the number, but believe it or not, I knew 1729's mathematical 'significance' from prior knowledge, I think it was a book from those Scholastic book orders...
I wouldn't be able to name the mathematician without Googling it... my memory isn't THAT good.

Anyways, of course there's going to be so much Wikipedia in this thread. If that's a problem I'll remove my post.

On the subject of numbers, my favorite is the prime numbers. We use them all the time yet there is no known generating function for them.

Congratulation to oneproduct, wish your family condition improves.
though you sounded your family are in difficult position, you have an impressive collections of keyboards!
in your "clack winning" post you mention your mom had depression and retired,
and you do not have much of money at the moment, since you just graduated from collage recently,
what of your father? is he still with you and does he have any part to play in the family?

If there is no one else to bear the weight of the family livings,
maybe its time for you and your brother to stand up and support the family.
if it's not today, maybe it's not tomorrow, but one of those day, the burden will rest on your shoulder.

My dad was actually laid off from his job this year. He's 62 though so he was close to retiring age. His hobby has always been gardening and landscaping so he's doing a little business of his own following that. Right now he's making Christmas wreaths and other decorations and selling them to a few local stores, mostly restaurants which like to dress up to attract customers. My mom has a fairly good pension since she worked at the same big company since the day she finished college. My dad on the other hand has nothing and he lost a lot of money a long time ago when the Nortel stocks lost their value.

I worked for two years between high school and college to save up money to go to school without having to work at the same time. I also didn't mind having a little break between them, but I'm glad that I went back. I actually got into mechanical keyboards because of school, where I did some transcription work for a deaf student. Most of the keyboards that I got during my school time were from trading Magic the Gathering cards. I traded them for a TG3, a Das, a Cherry G80 with reds, 4 Topre 87U silents, an SSK, a few trackballs and a bit of cash. I then ended up selling many of those for money in the classifieds here on geekhack (it was easier to do trades for spare keyboards that people have and don't want than for money and then find somebody else who wants to buy that stuff later). If it wasn't for that I'd probably have a lot less keyboard related stuff.

But anyways, I don't want people to worry about me or anything, at least not financially. We're doing fine and my brother and I both finished college this year so we're both working now and can help support everyone if needed. At the moment we're both still living at home and one of our grandmothers lives with us too. We're a pretty tight knit family and my brother is like my best friend. We have lots of the same hobbies and never argue with each other.

Edit: I've also been spared from wallethack because I use the Colemak layout so I'm immune to temptation from Qwerty key set group buys! I use to participate in the novelty key group buys, but they're usually pretty cheap and I've even stopped going for those too now.

I was a magic player before, boosters and cards comes in premium price back in my days because we have to import them from US,
the local price for boosters been the same here for the last 15 years, but since the living standards raised a lot since, mean it is becoming more affordable now days.
but the cards that I own even now, are phased out, and those cards doesn't worth much now,
you have good prediction to letting go of the cards you have in good time. :)
