Title: [IC] GH60 Parts and Assembly Services
Post by: TheProfosist on Mon, 17 December 2012, 00:25:44
This interest check is for a service that will be put on by me (Prof) and MiMiC if interest is great enough. The services offered will be plain assembly, modded switches (ergo clears, getto greens, etc), lubing and stickering. We will also be doing a groupbuy for certain parts for our customers to get better bulk pricing and so there is less intermediate shipping. Things offered will be resistors, leds, switches, stabilzers, cases, plates, and cables, this all depends on interest.

Pricing will be very close to the pricing in the Phantom Assembly GB

Count me interested, need a 60% board in my life.  I haven't been following the GH60 thing too closely, approximately when might these be readily available for us lowly lazy cretins?

We are still waiting for the prototype boards to arrive in the US. WhiteFireDragon is populating several of them with their SMD components, and is also handling US distribution of the proto boards. Once they arrive to the testers, we will get a limited time to assemble and test the boards. Any hardware issues will be resolved, and komar007 will make a final revision to the PCB. At that point, you will be able to order the GH60 via group buy.

At this point, we are at the mercy of the postal services and customs officials. We would love to move this along more rapidly, but care is being taken to ensure production boards are as error-free as is possible.

Hopefully, ordering will begin in a few short weeks.

Sounds good.  I was also kind of curious, any plans to try and market / sell these on a larger scale to get some funding for geekhack, or whatever?  That'd be pretty cool in my opinion.

I'm interested in assembly services, i really don't think i can put that SMD controller on there myself, maybe even the diodes too.

Post by: SmallFry on Wed, 26 December 2012, 11:44:28
The controller and diodes (if SMD) will be soldered on at the fab, IIRC.

I am interested as well assuming I have the money when the GH60 GB starts up.
EDIT: Nevermind, I decided to get a poker instead.

Hi I am still new here, and I have a few questions regarding this:

1. What is an OP. I remember seing your price quotes at some point thx to the spy feature, but can't find them anymore.

2. I am very interested in the GH60, but the total price may be a little too hard on my wallet to  pull the trigger. The thing is that it is also hard to estimate the total price for this since it would be my first custom keyboard. So I would be very happy if you could provide me with the best estimate you can do of the following setups:

-- A GH60 with clears (I have nothing, so would need a case, switches, stabilizers and assembly, and the GH60 itself and shipping to Canada, I hope I forgot nothing!)
-- I would also like to know how much more it would cost to get em lubbed with Korean springs (the ones just a little stronger than the regular ones on the blue/brown/red, 62g I think)

I would also like to know how this ergo clear feels compared to browns. I like my browns a lot, but I am also interested in this ergo clear, but it is hard to know how they would feel without trying them so if I could get a description/comparison it would be very appreciated.

Thx a lot in advance!

1: OP is Original Post (or sometimes poster), see post 1 of the thread.

2: lots of variables in there, I can't help too much.

For what it's worth, I'd say that the difference is quite large. I consider browns to be scratchy and uneven reds, and probably my least favourite switch. Ergo-clears are however one of my favourites. Taste and feel is personal. Your experience may differ. I am biased.

Do you already know what will be the "base case" offered instead of the plu. Poker maybe? Will there be a version with clears so I don't have to buy them as extra?

Will you offer custom springs (62g/65g) or not?

I know, many questions and maybe too soon, just trying to plan it all before the GB is launched. If it's too soon, just tell me, I will wait until the GB then.  ;D

And interested anyway whatever the answer is since the prices for the phantom are quite interresting.

If some things are not available, I might start with something more simple and mod it myself later, but I will probably try to get it as close to what I would like from the beginning.

Hope I am not bugging you!

updated the topic

also expect this to be nearly identical to the phantom parts and assembly GB assembly prices will be a touch cheaper due to the size being smaller and less involved

mainly interested in this for getting a second chance at getting switches for a Phantom...JUST missed out on your Phantom Parts (when I checked before today, you didn't have Greens...) and I wish I found out you had some before the service ended. Otherwise, where would you recommend I get Green switches that doesn't have a 9 month preorder?

EDIT: I'm also not going to get a QFR in Greens...if I get a QFR, I want to keep the PCB intact with all switches...

Interested :D I will need to buy all the parts + assembly from you with ergo clears. Might not need new keycaps. I think looking from the Phantom GB, this will cost me less than $200 for CONUS. Let me know if I'm off.

Edit: Sorry I actually might want to rethink this. I will keep you posted!

Definitely interested as well.  A GH60 keyboard........mmmmmmmm  looks very interesting but the extra "put together services" has really persuaded me into this possible Group Buy.

I think from now on who the hell would buy a bog standard keyboard from Filco, Leopold or Realforce again?
