Title: CM Storm Quickfire Pro vs Ducky DK1008
Post by: Invictus on Tue, 18 December 2012, 06:25:38
Good day. My Razer BlackWidow is on the fritz and I'm trying to find a replacement keyboard. The CM Storm Quickfire Pro and the Ducky DK1008 are the only ones in my price range. Please don't suggest anymore boards because they're probably not available here in my country. Thanks.

I own both a Ducky DK1087 with with alps greens which is the tenkeyless version of the DK1008 and the Quickfire Rapid with mx blacks. If It were between those two I'd say go for the Quickfire Rapid without a second thought but I'm not sure what the difference between the rapid and the pro is beyond the number pad and it could be significant.

the Rapid is one of the best built keyboards I have short of my Realforce boards.

The 1087 which again I'm led to believe is nearly identical to the 1008 is easily the most cheaply built keyboard I have. It's not a bad keyboard but it is not even close to the same caliber.

More important than the keyboard its-self is which switches are you thinking about getting?

Just bought a Quickfire Pro today with red switches (will be replacing them with blues this weekend). A few notes - it is heavy and can be used as a weapon, but the plastic of the body is too polished for my taste. I prefer textured ones. The keycaps also have some cheap feeling about them.

Other than that seems like a decent piece of hardware for the price. Also if you get one - when inserting the USB cable at the keyboard plug really hard till you hear a proper click.

Already what Lizzardborn has said makes it sound like the Quickfire Pro will be better built. The 1087 is light and the keycaps also feel cheap.

Welcome to Geekhack!

There have been quality issues with Ducky DK1xxx series in the past.

Conversely there are rumours that the QF pro is made by iOne, which also tends to produce lower quality boards.

OTOH I have heard of more people with the QF Pro who have no problems, so I'd lean towards that.

Or a QiuckFire Rapid, if you can, and if you don't mind TKL.  Also CoolerMaster, but a very solid, reliable board.
