Title: [IC] SkyWyRe (w/questionnaire)
Post by: danielucf on Wed, 19 December 2012, 18:54:08
I don't know if anyone is working on this, or wants to, but if so just speak up and I can step aside or let you help.

I'll call it SkyWyRe (Sky colored Wyse Replica)
Thanks to reaper for the reference picture.

I had an idea to do a very simple SoWaRe imitation set from SP in limited quantities 50-100 sets. Every set would also come with the tsangan, or simplified tsangan to reduce cost. Maybe even the numpad and iso kit could be included as well.

I am unsure of the color codes but I think the lighter grey is GBA, dark grey is GSY, light blue is BFQ, not sure what yellow is. Some people didn't like the RGB color legends for shift, control, and alt so I'm not sure if we would want to duplicate that or not, and if we did then I am unsure of the colors for that red, green, and blue text. We could also double up on the modifiers so both the plain and RGB modifiers would be available.

For one of everything (base/modifer, tsangan, numpad, iso) per set:
QuantityPrice
50$96
75$84
100$76

One base/modifier, and one tsangan per set:
QuantityPrice
50$78
75$69
100$63

Please answer the following questionnaire (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDJVZjdMNVI4a0lZSEQycElFTXRabGc6MQ)

I don't fully know the history of SoWaRe so what should we call it?
Title: Re: SoWaRe 2.0

Well, sherryton told me that..

So = sky blue in Korean
Wa = WYSE
Re = replica

So how about Sky Blue set?  And feel free to use my pic for reference.

No, but for the same reason I expect the Koreans  to not produce Phantom 2.0  and for us to not produce some KMAC revision.

I'll just rename it SkyWyRe. Sky blue colored Wyse Replica.

can you change the color of the F!-F4 and F9-F12 to match the alphas?

Is it still a replica if the legends are skyblue :P

Form submitted, but was confusing.

I voted Plain but also wanted Yellow arrows.  That didn't seem to be a choice.  Also blue legends on the function keys as reaper's pic shows.

Or I was just confused.

I think this happens automatically with the SP standard mods.

Yea we can just let SP standard base and modifiers make F1-F4 and F9-F12 be the lighter color. It is replica enough :p

WYSE will always mean yellow arrows to me. Was only talking about shift/control/alt as RGB

A better green would also be nice, kinda hard to see the legend on the shift keys

Could you offer the modifiers (symbols) separately and not in the base set as I'm sure a few people are in that Retro GB wouldn't mind having this as an option.

So you essentially want a moogle kit? Or everything a moogle would offer except for control, alt, winkey, and menu/fn? I really wanted this to be simple where there was one thing that everyone was ordering. If 15+ people want it then I'll do it.

There is supposed to be a moogle kit for WYSE, dolch, white on black cherry, black on white/beige cherry, and maybe one or two others. I wouldn't want to step on that group buys toes, but if they want to drop WYSE I can do it in this group buy I guess.

Huh? WYSE uses dark blue legends, not sky blue. I don't understand the conflict.

You could make it like SP has on their order page, with the "base" kit and "modifiers" as separate items.

Yea I had just woke up when I typed that, I did a "huh" just now reading it again. I could do a moogle for this I guess, but if the full set is going to have symbols I don't really see why it is needed. I guess for R4 retro people?

I did want it to be simple but if enough people are interested I'll do whatever people want.
Title: Re: [IC] SkyWyRe (w/questionnaire)

I meant to say have the moogle kit with symbols as a addon instead of making it the base, so people can choose between text or symbols.

Ah that makes more sense. We could do that but it'll bring the cost up a decent amount since the larger keys are the more expensive ones. This was supposed to be a relatively quick, and everyone gets the same thing sale to make packing, sorting, and shipping easier. If I stick with that then R4 retro people would have to buy an entire set just to get what they might want, or snipe someones unwanted extras.

So a decent number of people have been choosing that they want the numpad kit included. Not that many Iso sets as I expected, but is anyone going to cry over an extra $8 of keys that they can probably sell or trade anyways?

I'm thinking we do a plain base set and modifier set, and then have the extra RGB keys as kind of a SkyWyRe moogle kit.

OP says tsangan kit included in base kit, so I'd imagine both 1.25 and 1.5 mods are covered

Post by: danielucf on Thu, 20 December 2012, 19:42:00
1.5 mods or 1.25 or are both going to be included?
Both because the tsangan will be included with it. But we probably don't need stars, and diamonds, and windows key, and Fn key so it may be a simplified tsangan to save cost like I did with the toxic winkeyless kit. Only diamonds or stars and maybe a windows key or a "~`" in the correct profile for the KBT Pure.

Oh I see what you are saying, the RGB will need  1.5 mods too, it can be done since it is only 4 more keys I think.

I take it no chance for alphas only? I do love this set but I really am finding it hard to justify the price. If it were alphas only, which I know could be much cheaper (from the Klaxon set), I would probably take part but I'm not sure I'll even have the money to spare when this comes to fruition. I also have some modifiers I'm confident would look good with this set, but I don't want to be the one to bring people down

GLWGB! I wish I could take part!

Form submitted.  I'd rather have original WYSE colours but this is still pretty nice looking.  You know you could do this right at keycapsdirect right?  They have an order form for base and mods and you can choose colours for legends and caps.  You'd probably have to talk to Melissa about doing yellow legends for the arrow keys if you went that route.

There was another page linked off of that page for customizing a base set, modifier set, 17 key numpad set, 13 key "tsangan" set, and an iso set. A full 87 key set consists of a base set in conjunction with a modifier set. They are going to tweak that page and put it up again since if you had the old link in your browser the page turned into "under construction"

Toxic is taking awhile so not sure if I should try and rush this in before, or push it to afterwards. Unless someone else wants to take over. There is also a small chance I'll just buy 100 and take the risk and start a web site selling keys :p

Take your time.  Besides there are already a few good Group Buy key-sets currently going.  Plus you need to take care of each one you start because if you decide to take this one on and have a half progressed Toxic running as well..........it might be over-whelming for you, unless you get some of the other 'older geekhackers' involved here to help you out.

Having some one else to lend you a hand will make it all more manageable especially when running a Group Buy to it's successful conclusion.
