Hey guys, it's been fun poking around in your forums and learning about mechanical keyboards. Strange to think that the technology we're all so keen on now was basic and boring 20 years ago!
I'm getting my first mechanical keyboard (since those classics back in the day, hah) delivered today - a Filco MJ2 with MX Blacks. It took me an amount of time I will not disclose to arrive at that decision. :p
I'm also hoping to get a set of PBT keycaps from Feng soon, and I have this sneaking suspicion that I'll end up with another keyboard in the not-so-distant future... better get a fourth job to support this hobby, haha.
I will say this - if anyone knows of, or hears of, a full-size Filco case replacement (because **** TKL, that's dumb), I would jump all over something awesome in a heartbeat. Aluminum, custom, whatever.
Thanks for all the infoz, and looking forward to learning more and doing business with y'all. :D

You suppose correctly, sir. Welcome! What color full-size did you get? I have only seen literally two here since I've been, and those were both offered by feng not too long ago (custom painted white and Chameleon). They sold pretty quickly (I grabbed the Chameleon). TKL has the majority of popularity here, so that is the focus for most custom stuff here. I would just say keep your eyes peeled in hopes for something, but don't expect it.

I'm also not a TKL fan! Welcome. I suppose I might one day be swayed or decide I like them on a fun board. But I prefer full-sizes. I'd also like to see a custom cases since I just bought a Filco Ninja Majestouch full-size w/ MX blues. There are aluminum Poker cases that look SO good.

Welcome to Geekhack!
I wasn't sure if I'd like a TKL, but the price was right, and it does save space if your desk is not that big. Mind you I'd be lost without a numpad at work.

Loving the Filco for gaming, but I'm having a hell of a time settling on keycaps (I want dye-sub PBT caps!). I've seen some nice black-on-blue sets from both imsto and Feng, but I'm really split on profile. Obviously the ABS caps on my Filco are OEM, but I don't know if I would like Cherry profile better. Can anyone comment?

No-one can really comment on whether you'd like OEM or Cherry profile keycaps better, other than you. And you won't be able to comment until you try some.
Maybe look around eBay to find a cheap old keyboard with Cherry profile MX-compatible keycaps, swap them over and see how you go.
Or just resign yourself to the obsession and buy a set of keycaps. If you don't like them, you can probably (once you have 60 posts) sell them in Classifieds for near cost.

Or just resign yourself to the obsession...
That's my fear, yeah. :p
I'll probably just order a set or two of replacement keycaps and see what I think. I do have a buddy that has a Razer BlackWidow I could give spares I'm not sold on to, and lord knows I'll probably end up buying another keyboard before the shiny new year is up...

I sent imsto some paypal fundage yesterday, hoping to see something from him today about shipping out my pbt caps! :D
-
That's the way it happens - bit by bit your collection grows ... ;)
-
Yeah, I'm seeing super-good discounts on the Razer and Steelseries stuff today... must... resist!...
-
Shouldn't be too hard to step back from the BlackWidow - their reputation is, ahem, not the best.
