Hello Geekhack :) I was given a ducky shine TKL with reds recently, and I'm keen to try out ergo clears. I'm not completely sure on how easy it is to change the stems on this keyboard, especially with the LED. From what I gather each switch is soldered on to the pcb and at about halfway the switch is stabilised by a plate. I know to remove the switch I need to completely unsolder it, but is it possible to unclip the top of the switch and swap around stems and springs?
Thanks :)

You will have to desolder every led and every switch you want to change. A backlight platemount board is a poor choice to mod unless you are REALLY sure you want the modded switch type. I would advise you to try clears/ergo clears on something else first, like G80-3000LQC** come with clears and can be had for about 55EUR.

Yeah, today does sound like a lot of fuss if I don't even know if I'll like it. I'll do what you suggest, thanks :)

If you really wanted to try out Ergo clears, I'd suggest asking around in the classifieds forum. Desoldering plate-mounted switches is a royal PITA unless you're used to it.

I'd be keen to swap my full size Filco with browns for a tkl with clears if one exists. I think I need a few more pays since I can post in the classifieds though. Unless that 60 post requirement is only for creating threads?

Yes you must have at least 60 posts to create new threads.
