Title: What's the difference between these caps?
Post by: zoolzoo on Wed, 26 December 2012, 15:08:14: Hi. I'm new at keycaps!

Below we have my Filco board with some custom caps. The "WASD" keys are the red set from WASD Keyboards. The two red's in the upper right corner are from Keypop. What is the difference in plastic between these two that cause the different coloration? Also, is there a vendor that sells a nice "WASD" set that will be the DARK red like the Keypop keys? I really want them to match. :)

Post by: Vintage on Wed, 26 December 2012, 15:58:12: They are both ABS plastic. Not all plastic colors are the same, and the WASD keyboards red just happens to be a very light shade of red. The only difference with the plastics is that the "awesomeface" keys are doubleshot and the WASD set is laser etched, but that does not affect color anyway.

Just be aware that these are Cherry profile and thus slightly lower than your current OEM profile caps.

There are over 16 million colors. You can spend your whole life buying pieces of plastic from different companies and no pieces from 2 different companies is ever going to match in color. Assuming you buy 10 different colors per day, you just won't live long enough to see a random match.

Best u can achieve is to get matching colors from 1 particular company.
