Title: Leopold Keyboard
Post by: dachef on Sat, 29 December 2012, 16:12:05
Anyone know where I can purchase a white Leopold tkl?  I only see blacks around.  Also maybe a White filco with blue switches.  Afaik Filco doesn't sell a white keyboard with blue switches.  Or if you know a brand that sells a nice white keyboard with blue switches.

Get a Keycool 87 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Key-Cool-87-Mechanical-Gaming-keyboard-Cherry-MX-Blue-W-White-body-/300684703509?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item4602347715), they are nearly identical to Leopold, made same factory. It's like franken FC200 casebody and FC700 pcb, minor difference.

LOL sorry, couldn't resist.  It is rare that we have something in Australia that is not elsewhere in the world.  And PCCG do not ship O/S  :p

How is the reliability on the Keycools?

As far as I know Keycool 87 is just as good as Leopold. I hear the other models are ok too.

The main reason I'm asking is because Qtan seems to suggest they're not as good as most other premium brands...The price is great but you have to wonder how good the quality is if they're close to half the price.  I don't have an opinion either way but definitely interested to see what other people end up seeing (or if they're taken it apart).

At that price, you might as well go for a Filco. I may be selling my Leo in the future, and I can notify you if you when I do. [pic of my keyboard]

Probably because people want the PBT keycaps, removable USB...and with more places making spacebars for different spacers, it is becoming less of an issue.  Some people may want Costar stabilizers but that is just personal preference as well...

But we don't get white Filco from PCCG :( Oh and they only have black, brown or blue switches there for the black ones :o

I assume u r talking about the Keycool.  The review I read (and saw pix) said that there were spacing issues between some of the keys.  They were strongly insinuating that the switches were soldered about 1-2mm off from where they should have been.

They did not show upskirt pix of the keycaps of the keys in question so it might have been a "deformed keycap" problem rather than a "mismade pcb" problem or a "switch robot went wild" problem.

That was from around when they were first released. All those type of problem don't seem to exist anymore as a regular thing. Keycool went from being a way to use Leopold B grade surplus parts to a real brand.

Oh cool.  So they had a problem, got a complaint and fixed it.  Exactly the same way Rosewill doesn't.  Cool.

Well, I'll be keeping an eye out...but not really worried about saving a few bucks at this point in time.

Are they using Leopold spaced space bars or a more standard one?

Keycool looks like a viable option but I don't mind spending a few extra bucks to get a nice quality board.

I haven't seen a white filco with blue switches on their website or on amazon. I contacted them directly and they said they are currently out and don't know when they will be making more.

So they don't ship to the US? It seems that site sells everthing for a lot more, but I'm willing to pay more just for a white keyboard cause **** looks sexy with black keycaps, ya dig?

A very good question. Is an answer known?

So there's a white Leopold and a beige one?  Or I am color blind?

Only 5% of the color blind population is female. The trait is usually attached to the male sex chromosome. Anywho, IIRC, there is only a white Leopold, of which I have two of them.

Keycool use same Leopold stem spacing on spacebar. Leopold white, and I presume Keycool since it should be the same was not so much beige but very light grey, like current Cherry more or less. Much nicer than the 'white' Filco which is really beige.
