The best purchase I made in 2012 has to be a Zebra LP 2844 thermal printer. It has saved me so much time when shipping cables!

Maton ECW80C Guitar. Got it at $500 less than retail, so really happy with that buy.

Wouldn't necessarily call anything keyboard-related I bought this year a good buy. :))

*ENVY!* =) I have a 1976 FJ40... I love seeing those 45's though!

My best, most used purchase in 2012 is my Mazzer Mini coffee grinder... I've wanted a Mazzer for years and finally found a good deal on ebay... This thing makes my press pot sing!! =D

Purchases that brought me the most day-to-day joy:

1. Sweatpants that weren't full of holes
2. Underwear that weren't full of holes
3. T-shirts that weren't all see-through and torn up
4. Jeans that didn't strangle my junk

Basically I just bought clothes for the first time in many years. Mainly I never replaced them out of laziness / not caring. Plus I hate clothes shopping.

It took what felt like forever to find one, 45s are so rare here in NA. FJ40s are pretty nice, I was in WA last September and saw a near-mint '73 for sale; it took all the willpower I had to not cancel my flight back to Ontario, buy the truck, and drive it home.

(I got some with great price/value ratio, but it hasn't been all that useful, so I'll just ignore it.)

Input devices: Winners are Noppoo Choc Mini (Cherry MX Red) and TypeMatrix 2030, I can't decide which is better; USB thinkpad keyboards are also nice, and I have big plans with an Elcom POS matrix keyboard. I've also decided to get a huge trackball, until then Logitech TrackMen rule — BTW it has helped me realize I don't really like even good gaming mice.

Desktop: I moved my desktop from a cheap microtower into CM Silencio 550, and it's been fantastic silence-wise, it was actually one of the things that made standing setup possible for me.

Laptop: I've replaced a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 11 with an X200 Tablet, and it's been awesome. This might be one of my best purchases in the long term.

Headphones: Grado SR-60i's helped me enjoy large portion of my music collection again; probably Audio Technica ATH-AD500 too, but it doesn't fit my head that well.

Backpacks: I guess I got Dicota BacPac Xtreme in 2011, it's been amazing, but "build-quality" could be better. I can't wait to try the new Crumpler backpack.

The top item would definitely have to be my new IEMs I just got for my portable audio setup, the VSonic GR07-BE.  Though they came at the end of the year, it's the one thing that stands out the most!  In keyboard-exclusive terms, I'd say my limited edition Pure that I've equipped with some white on black DS takes the cake - a big thanks goes to DanGWanG for hooking me up with that!

I buy way too much crap. But one of the most significant purchases I made was going from some cheap crappy speakers to klipsch pro media 2.1 system. It was a large large step forward in terms of power and sound quality.
I got rid of those a couple months later though and got a yamaha avr, infinity speakers, and a polk sub.

Don't have before/after dyno's but 10 may be optimistic, but close.  Definitely more power there.  The calculated/estimated whp is something like 130 (162 at the crank) stock.  Sounds great, though!

did you get the "new" klipsch? it's not really a high end speaker anymore.. it's pretty much the same as logitech electronics with better cones.

It probably was, but still it was a huge step in terms of everything. I wanted a some more power though and my current set up provides it very nicely for a little under $500ish

Probably the upgrade kit for my computer, only PSU and hard drive haven't been replaced, although if I'm upgrading it again I'll probably need a new PSU. Could need a new hard drive as well soon.
I don't really know all the stuff I bought this year off the top of my head, so I'll add if something pops up.

switching from mechanical drives to solid state  :D

I got solid state drives in mine and my wife's laptops a while ago.  If you're doing real $ work on a laptop (startup/shutdown/startup/shutdown a lot), the ROI for a solid state drive is anywhere from 2.5 seconds to 3 days.  EVERY laptop sold to a business should have a solid state drive in it.

It's an exclusive program directly through Intel.  I can also get their SSD 520 series 180GB for $145.  It isn't that big of a saving so I've been contemplating.

How well has that worked for you? I've never found any success in setups like that, I've always stuck with simple dumbbells and pushups, but I'd like to have a more structured routine.

My best purchase was the $30 Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler. It brought new life back into my computer. My CPU temps were running in the high 80s while under heavy load before I installed this aftermarket cooler. Now, my i5-2500K idles @ 20C and reaches 60C at max load via prime95.

I couldn't be more satisfied with the performance of this budget cooler.

Basically, you will hit a plateau with doing the same routine constantly. Changing it up a lot with new and different exercises allows your muscle mass to grow faster. I wanted the flexibility of having many different options in order to create a new and different routine every week

Replacing my dusty old Asus with my new Dell laptop really made my life easier.
Then adding my HP ZR2440w improved my view
Then getting a new office chair fixed my back
Then upgrading my stupid little desk to a Steelcase conference table gave me some room to spread out
Then a KMAC made my fingers happy
:)

Now I never go outside...

Didn't really get to buy anything in 2012. I had a kid instead. So I still spent a ****-load of money, just none of it on myself. I did buy my RF AE 55g, which is by far the greatest board I've ever typed on.

Dell U2412M. I love this thing

Oh. And what got me really started here: My FIRST Mechanical Keyboard, a Leopold FC200RT/KB Just having one for a few months was enough to convince me to get a Phantom...

That's a tough decision for me. This year I bought a Model M that was made on the same day I was born. (Yes, you heard that right. Lulz) A new computer. And a new camera. Probably the Model M. ^_^

Yep. Tomorrow I'm planning to buy a new car!

xD

Obviously I meant 2012.

The Leopold FC200RT/KB was my first mechanical keyboard as well. I bought that one in 2011 though, and did a sound test and review of it on my Youtube channel and website. It's a lot of fun. I love the compact size and MX Browns were the right choice.
edit: Oh, and it's great for gaming too, although I haven't tried reds or blacks yet.

I was joking on the fact of you using wrong wording (even though it was obvious what you meant.) I do that sometimes. I like my Leopold and I'm planning on keeping it. I'm planning on making my Phantom in Cherry MX Greens, so I need a gaming keyboard since I've heard around here that Greens are strictly typing switches. I also like it when people play along with my jokes, and don't get mad at me for taking things literally.

Heh, yep, I try not to take people too seriously, and just have fun. I'd like to try greens someday but I'd have to borrow a keyboard from a community member here as, obviously, no manufacturer makes a keyboard with greens. It's my favorite color, so maybe it would be my favorite switch.

From what I've heard, they're Blues with Black springs (hence ghetto greens, which are Blues with black springs). I'm not really one for heavy switches, but I think it would be a cool experience, and would help my typing speed on lighter keyboards. And a couple manufacturers make keyboards with Greens. I know Cooler Master has a QFR on their store with Greens and Ducky had a Limited Edition with Greens. Then again, I've also seen a picture of a Ducky board with all Greys, so I think they're messing around with switches to find a popular new one.

Well, I commend them for it. It's very rare for companies to waver from the standard Blues, Blacks, and Browns.

As I was looking at Cooler Master's website I love the layout of the QFR TK, as I do use the keypad occasionally. Newegg is out of stock. Are there any other keyboards that you know of that keep the small size but still include the number pad?

Just did some research before I bought. I always try to do a bit of research before I buy any tech stuff ever since I blew a lot of money on a laptop to game on that couldn't even run WoW decently :x

I forgot to mention this $40 aftermarket VGA cooler: ARCTIC Accelero Twin Turbo II (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186052). It lowered my GPU temps by 10C on idle and by 20C at full load. I have an aging XFX 6870. It ran hot and sounded like a jet engine with the stock cooler. But, with the aftermarket cooler, it's now even more silent than my case fans! Best upgrade purchase ever.

Um... not ragin on ya, but there's no way you can get $40 of performance added to a 6870... I guess it's worth it if you're planning to ride low on the thing for a few more years.  :))

Like I said, it was purchased to decrease the temps and noise of my graphics card. I don't have the funds to upgrade my card for another year or two so the aftermarket cooler was a must.

That's just negative thinking, you would do fine. It's a big responsibility, but at a point cats are almost self maintaining, food water and love is all they really need. Maybe consider adopting an adult rather a kitten, which are no question big investments in time and energy. Honestly I feel like Pixel(my cat) actually saved me more than I have her, as I suffer from depression and was on the verge of dropping out and just giving up on life. It's like how some people have a kid to 'save' their marriage, but less selfish and it actually worked.

I also "may" have depression.. but.. if a pet died on me.. sigh.... I would just nerd rage... and buy enough cocaine to OD myself.

well that must have been long time ago ;) Yomega are pretty ****ty right now. And this yoyo wasn't so expensive. It was like 135€. Yoyos in general are not so expensive as keyboards and keycaps. Professional yoyos are from 100€-200€ and everything more expensive are yoyos from titanium and gold plated.
