Title: Is this legit?
Post by: exousia7 on Thu, 03 January 2013, 04:36:49
I was browsing around the Fnatic website once and just out of curiosity checked out their shop...

http://www.fnatic.com/shop/categories/keyboards/

The prices they list for those keyboards are pretty damn cheap. Is this actually legit? O.o That 7G looks VERY cheap....

Well.. it's fnatic. o_O Maybe they're just doing clearance, or there's a new board coming out soon and they'll be using them.

I know fnatic is awesome and all.....but even Steelseries doesn't have a price like this......not to mention that the 7G is even cheaper than 6Gv2!!

and weirdly the UK 7G is €25 more than the US version
I have seen horror stories from /r/starcraft of fnatic's shipping time measured in epoc's though

I would be pretty skeptical from handing these guys my money... besides, I've never been a fan of steelseries

@laffindude Unfortunately not yet! Some things went wrong with the shipping and my friend could not receive my order in time in the States to bring back to Taiwan. Now I am trying to get a refund on this order. I have another friend get me a 6gv2 red switch when I saw it on Amazon for $79.99, and this time the order was right, she'll be bringing it to me this week :) I can't wait.

@uJalled fnatic is a pretty well-known organization. I'd give it a shot and order from here if I lived in EU :O

kinda lame first post, will post an introduction after this one!

I think the keyboards are sponsored. They get them for free before they start a match or tournament somewhere and they just want to make small cash out of it by selling them (what to doo with 3 extra 6v2's when you allready have one at home.. Same goes for the headsets and such. Al probably just openend and used for single use at a tournament.

I know they are sponsored, but don't they carry their own keyboards to the tournament instead of opening a new one every time? O.o

Actually, professionals have almost as many keyboards as I do. Depending on the team, a fair number get broken due to ragequit. Mostly though, they get only a few months out of them at most before keycaps are trashed and keyswitches are worn out. Remember that whereas you might type a few thousand words a day, these guys? Are hitting the exact same set of keys for 4-8 hours a day, very rapid fire.
Also bear in mind that there aren't a lot of keyboards they're allowed to use. The SteelSeries 6Gv2? Permissible because it has no macro keys and no added functionality. Anything with macro keys is automatically disallowed. Most of the serious competitions also don't permit bringing your own equipment. Usually they're using keyboards and mice provided by the sponsors, or by the team sponsors and pre-approved. (So for example, if the venue has no deal with SteelSeries? No 6Gv2 for you.) Most of the provided keyboards? Get thrown out or hosed down and sent along with the standardized competition rig.

Honestly, it's most likely that these keyboards are in fact, being sold as part of their sponsorship agreement with SteelSeries. Meaning they're brand new, either as spares for practice or provided by SteelSeries at massive discounts which they then pass on to fans.

Ha. Lemme know when you're on vacation. I'll bring a board or 2 for you to play with ;)
We could go eat at JB burgers or something.

This pretty much sums it up.

If this was the case they would need to advertise them as used other wise they'd be in **** ;)
