Title: Tips for getting used to Noppoo Choc Mini?
Post by: NickVsYou on Fri, 04 January 2013, 00:01:32
I purchased it recently, coming from a non-mechanical full size keyboard to a choc mini with red switches has definitely set me back, i was on the verge of returning it yesterday.

So i need your tips, honestly anything would be great right now.

Had the same issue going from a rubber dome to mechanical brown switch recently. though in your case its probably a bit worse :P Red's are even lighter than browns. (you're probably use to a 55-65g actuation force, Red's are 45g)  Honestly, its really just a matter of time. Force yourself to use it for a few days and pretty soon you'll get the hang of it. If not, Red switches may not be for you.  I find that brown switches are a bit too light. if you really cant stand it you could always try something like this: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=38091.msg753375#msg753375

Beware though, once you get used to a mechanical keyboard, typing on a normal one feels...wrong.

Is it the switches or the layout or both that's getting you? All I can say is keep at it for a few days to get used to both aspects and if you really don't like it after that then it might be time to try a new switch/layout.

I'm currently doing something similar. Moved from a TKL Filco with Blues to a 60% Poker with Ergo Clears and still getting used to both the switches and learning the function layers.

Its both i suppose, i'm a big league of legends player so the arrow keys are weird, but i'm starting to get used to it, just always making spelling errors.

Was wondering this too, but maybe he uses them to scroll the screen? I've seen people do this with Dota, but I can't understand why they don't just use the mouse. Correct me if I'm wrong though, Nick!

I've only ever seen pros/my friends use the mouse. Its something that's quite hard to get used to though, if you've been using the keyboard. I think that I don't like moving my right hand off the mouse, and just leave my right hand on QWER. Maybe if I could use a second layer of wasd as arrows like on my poker.... hmmm.

I have a razer naga all my spells and summoner abilities are binded to it. I'll try using the mouse movement, it sounds like it could work.
