Title: Classic "Win98" keycaps?
Post by: Sheik Yerbouti on Sun, 06 January 2013, 15:40:24
Hi!

Well, first of all I'd like to say hello since this is not only my first thread but my first post aswell. I come from the Swedish hardware News/forum site Sweclockers.com were "Hutalla" introduced me to the neverending world of keyboards, switches, keycaps etc.

To the actuall topic; I have a "Cooler Master Storm Quick Fire TK Brown Cherry" shipping out in a couple of days and I've decided to get some keycaps to start of my keyboard nerding. What I want is keycaps with a old windows logo in grey to match up with my classic themed win7. After some seachring and a lot of reading on geekhack I still can't seam to find this product. Does it even exist or do I have to custom order one?
I've checked some sites recommended here as wasdkeyboards, techkeys etc.

Short version; Where can I buy a win98 keycap for my CM QF keyboard?

EDIT:

Just to clarify, I'm looking for a keycap like the windows key on this keyboard.

The older cherry keyboards have the windows "swoosh" as opposed to the noe win 8 logo.  But they are a different profile than your CM will have.

Replacing the entire keycaps with Cherry would probably be the easiest way to go about it. Unfortuneatly you will probably have to buy at least 2 Cherry G80 keyboard, probably an 1800 and 3000 would be good choices to get all the needed key sizes for the TK, but good news is they are really cheap on German ebay.

I got these with my order at wasd after I saw someone else do it. It's the last character in the Wingdings font if they'll do one-offs.

Fairly sure if you go to the WASD site there's an option to choose the individual keys you want of whatever row and then you can get them etched. So if you chose 2 blank keys for ya Windows keys and then just asked for them to do that it should be fine.

Thanks everybody and especially missmurd3r84!
I'll probebly order the winkey and a blank white set of keys from wasdkeyboards. Won't be too pricy, the dollar is pretty low in relation to our swedish currency.

Just to follow-up, here's what the real Win key looked like from WASD. Fun stuff!
