Title: Which Cherry MX-Switches share same springs/stems?
Post by: Aufwind on Mon, 14 January 2013, 14:40:08
Is there any kind of list about which MX-Switches do share stems/springs?

lysol pointed out some details here http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=39214.msg764347#msg764347 (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=39214.msg764347#msg764347) but I am to stupid to follow it up in plain text. :D

A format like this

ResultStemsSprings
MX-RedsMX-BlacksMX-Blues

would be awesome!!

Or does such a table already exist?

By the way: Does someone know how to add borders to the table?

There's a table over here (http://deskthority.net/wiki/Cherry_MX) which doesn't implicitly state it, but all the "light" share a common spring, the "mediums" also and etcetera.  And there's another of a similar ilk over here (http://wiki.geekhack.org/index.php?title=Cherry_MX).

I'm fairly certain those are overlooking some small, 5g differences in spring weight. Last time I checked, it claimed that red and brown were the same, but I believe they have a slight difference.

I could be entirely wrong (as I don't have a set of springs or a strain gauge) but my understanding was that blue/red/brown had the same spring and the differences in measurements was due to the different stem designs.

Equally, Cherry quotes the actuation force, not the terminal force, which is a very easy thing to alter - for the manufacturer that is - without using a different spring.

This is also how I understand it.

Are MX "White" still produced??
