Title: Cherry Stabilizer Questions
Post by: NikoGasm on Tue, 15 January 2013, 02:51:42
So I got a DK9087 recently and it uses Cherry stabs. They feel really mushy to me (as reported by most people as well) and I've heard some things about a mod you can do eliminate the mush.

I have two questions about that:

1. Does it really work?
2. If so, what exactly do you do?

Thank you very much. I'll be doing this to my stabilizers when I get home.

My KBT Oni had mushy stabilized keys. All I had to do was lube it and after a day or two it became normal. Really hard to differentiate from my Filco with Costar stabilizers.

I've seen those video before but I've always wonder that how hard is it to get those stabilizer "stems" out of the housing to do the mod?

You have to pull the switch and the entire stabilizer set out if you're talking about plate mount.  If you have a Korean board then you have to dismantle the whole keyboard since they use PCB mount.

Mmmmm sounds like a lot of work.

Oh and I also try cherry stabilizer for the first time today.  I went to NCIX and they have a demo CM Storm Trigger for me to play around.  I though people were exaggerating but, for the lack of better word it indeed feel mushy when bottom out.  Have to say I definitely prefer costar stabilizer better.

If you plan on adding o-rings, I think it is actually better to have cherry stabilizers..

If you don't plan on adding o-rings then I can definitely see where people don't like the difference in the larger keys.    Maybe not so much the space bar but definitely the large keys like backspace/Shift/Enter...

I bought like ~500 o-rings for just under eight dollars a few months ago. I set up one of my keyboards, didn't like it, and now they all just sit in their bag. So I definitely don't plan on adding o-rings.
