Well, I have decided to go with the 15" MBP (2.4GHz C2D, 256MB vid ram). I will be purchasing from the Apple Store in Madison once I return home. In preparation, i have purchased the following upgrade items and accessories:
- ZeroShock III - 15" Widescreen Notebook Sleeve (http://shinza.com/product_info.php?cPath=5_10_15&products_id=72)
- ShaggyMac Laptop Screen Protector (http://www.shaggymac.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3_4&products_id=72)
- Griffin Elevator Laptop Stand (http://www.shaggymac.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=8&products_id=7)
- 2 x Transcend 2GB PC2 5300 SoDIMMs (4GB total) (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820208323)
- Western Digital Scorpio 250GB 5400rpm hdd (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16822136123)
I will be ordering the 30" Dell LCD when I arrive stateside and, as mentioned previously, the MBP from the Apple Store in Madison.
I will also be making a trip down to Ikea in Chicago for some office furniture.

Last year my wife thought I was being facetious. ;)
Anyone have/use an iLap?

I'll probably be getting either a MacBook or a MacBook Pro sometime next spring or summer. It'll be my first laptop, so that accessory list is very useful information for me.

Hmm, why the 30" Dell LCD rather than the 30" Apple Cinema Display? Actually, I'm leaning the same way. Friends and the little reading I've done have begun to convince me that the Dell 30" is the superior of the Apple Cinema Display in every respect (including price) except for industrial design.

Hey, forget Ikea. Get a Biomorph desk! That would be my dream set up.

So is an Aeron or other high-end office chair still in your plans?
And what are your plans for task lighting for your setup?
How about a Leaf Light?

And how will you ensure that your keyboard is at the right height ergonomically? Keyboard tray or stand? Something adjustable that's integral with whatever desk you're going to get? I use a keyboard podium from AKP that I really like:

I've found that for me the right combination of monitor height plus keyboard height plus chair height required that a foot rest be thrown into the equation.
Speaking of which, this is the one item of office furniture that I would really, really like to get:

Keyboard podium, no.
biomorph desk, no.
leaflight, cool! I like it.
Webble? I may need one of those, too!

Glad to hear it. The ZeroShock and screen protector are always mandatory items for my laptops.

More features, height adjustment, and roughly $500 cheaper.

Those aren't even close to what I have envisioned for my desk setup. You'll see pictures once I get the office all setup.

Not sure yet. We'll have to see what I can get my butt into locally (or down in Chicago). No way I spend that much money without some "test driving". ;)

My home office is already pretty well lit. If anything, I'd get one of those banker lights (something like this (http://www.csnrugs.com/asp/show_detail.asp?sku=it4512&refid=XT16-it4512)).
And how will you ensure that your keyboard is at the right height ergonomically?
Definitely an articulating keyboard shelf/tray will be in order. Like this (http://www.humanscale.com/products/keyboard_systems.cfm).

Defiinitely not my thing.

You guys are all nuts! $1500 for a desk you could build in a weekend for about about $300, and you could put an articulating arm for the keyboard tray on it. That is what I think you guys should do. This winter, I am planning on building a couple desks to replace the $70 drafting table I use now, which works well and is stable. iMav, you sound like a man who has some skill with woodworking, so why don't you go this route and get EXACTLY what you want?
Just a thought from a broke college kid.
-
Well, I'm not paying $1500 for the desk I want.
Like I said...I'll post pics once my home office is all set up how I want it. :)
-
And then I will feel so whole-heartedly inadequate, I'll have to sell everything and move to a van down by the river.
-
You'll have plenty of time to live in a van down by the river when you're living in a van down by the river.
