It is our hopes that everything be "polished" and "improved"
We take shapeless ugly rocks out of the ground to produce gems...
Why shouldn't this extend to our looks...
I believe the only people who truly have anything to pick against plastic surgery are just Average/Good looking people who dislike the fact that suddenly they have more competition. :)) :)) :))
Ugly people have everything to gain, while pretty people lose, because their natural looks are now closer to par...
This is exactly the same as the Poor usurping the Rich.... And the Rich just can't take it... :)) :))

loose?
well they are usually tight asses, letting loose a little might help them.

I am a guy and I find it sad when girls who used to be cute get cosmetic surgery, and what made them look cute is gone. Examples: Lindsay Lohan, Alicia Witt.
I am all for corrective surgery, though, for people who have had accidents, breast cancer, etc.

Read Scott Westerfeld's "Uglies" series for an interesting take on this.
It is written as "young adult fiction" but it was enjoyable even for an old fart like me.
PS - please don't start a "plastic surgery gone wrong" photo contest - I just ate dinner.

Should "Ugly" be corrected?
-
Yes, ugly should be corrected. Peoples perception, expectation and understanding of ugly that is.
Media has utterly screwed with consumers expectations in all areas, especially the human body.

But then, this gets into, "is there such thing" as "ugly"
Because if you allow such large variability, then Anything besides "obvious indicators of disease" would be "good"
There is a reason that Most people's perception of beauty converge, and it isn't solely due to media influence...
An attractive face is mathematically determined... I don't see any way around this....

On the topic of Micheal Jackson, have you seen the pics of that Suicide Girl with vitiligo? Not gonna post pics because it's obviously NSFW, but hot damn she looks like a sexy cow.
-

Just googled it... I find it suspicious that she doesn't have vitiligo on her face, and only on her body... if you saw her without what is probably "coverup", she would look quite scary....

To point you in the right direction, the area of sociology you're discussing is often known as "body work"
As a quick run down plastic surgery doesn't work for improving confidence where people "feel bad" about a specific body part, in the USA minors can get surgery that under 25 year old's can't (due to parents signing up to pay for it), and that it is often invaluable as a first step (only) in assisting burns victims come to terms with their injures. Oh and it can be addictive.
