Title: I went tuxedo with my Unicomp Ultra Classic
Post by: jkercado on Sat, 19 January 2013, 10:15:11
I had it as an all-black unit with no legends at all. While it looked cool, and was using it for training myself not to look at the keyboard (since I'm not a touch-typist), I found that I made far too many errors, hurting my productivity. I had been using it like this for about 4-5 months.

So I had an idea...Took the keyboard home with me yesterday and after checking, decided that the regulat white Model M keys would look really nice against the black keyboard and keys, so I did this:

I like it. :) I call it the tuxedo look. ;)

Directly from Unicomp. They sell both the black blanks and the pearl/gray blank sets.

Looks good man! The only thing I would have done differently was leave the number row black as well.

I tried that for symmetry's sake, but then the "white" area looked too small and constricted.

Ahh. Yeah, it is a pretty big board. Looks good none-the-less.

I like blue modifiers myself.

That 'tuxedo' look is nice.

One of these days I'm going to break down and reproduce the 'inverse tuxedo' I did. Used a beige shell with the genuine IBM white-on-blacks, black spacebar, beige tricolor modifiers, and a clearshell F-row. (Had too many parts boards at the time.) I shudder to think what it would cost these days.
