Title: Phantom PLATES (shipping)
Post by: WhiteFireDragon on Sat, 19 January 2013, 17:09:54
This is the official GB, carried over from the IC of these plates (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=38623.0). They're $22/plate, in stainless steel with the top face finished in line graining. These plates are REQUIRED for the PCB to be mounted mounted on the case. The plate itself is compatible with Filco, PLU, and CM quickfire TKL cases. Every switch can be taken apart without desoldering, and it's compatible with both cherry and costar stabilizers.

ANS125 - Popular standard layout of mainstream keyboards. ANSI layout with 1.25x bottom modifiers and 6.25x space bar.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/th_ANS125-rev2.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/?action=view&current=ANS125-rev2.png)

ANS150 - ANSI layout with bottom modifiers in 1.5x - 1x - 1.5x and 7x space bar. Popular with Cherry or Korean customs
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/th_ANS150-rev2.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/?action=view&current=ANS150-rev2.png)

ISO125 - ISO layout with 1.25x bottom modifiers and 6.25x space bar.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/th_ISO125-rev2.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/?action=view&current=ISO125-rev2.png)

ISO150 - ISO layout with bottom modifiers in 1.5x - 1x - 1.5x configuration and 7x space bar.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/th_ISO150-rev2.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/?action=view&current=ISO150-rev2.png)

NOTE ON THE FOLLOWING PLATES: there are a few more custom ones that I've added. There are no keycap sets with proper legends that will fully accommodate to these 4 new ones, not even a tsangan kit from SP. Only choice you really have is to get them from WASD, which only comes in ABS and lasered legends if you want a matching set. Otherwise you'll have to mix and match keycaps from different sets, so buy these plates with discretion. If you're unsure, think about also picking up a more standard plate, because there won't be a round2 for these plates.

PRF125 - Profosist's custom layout. Extra 2 keys in the function row, split L-shift key, split backspace, short Enter + 1x, short R-shift + 1x
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/th_PRF125.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/?action=view&current=PRF125.png)

HHK150 - jdcarpe's proposed layout. It's basically a HHKB layout with the extra function row keys that are specific to phantom PCB.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/th_HHK150.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/?action=view&current=HHK150.png)

WFD125 - This is my personal favorite. It's based on ANSI, similar to a HHKB layout but has standard function row and 1.25 bottom modifiers. Easier compatibility with keycap sets.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/th_WFD125.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/?action=view&current=WFD125.png)

RBD150 - Last one for our ISO fans. 1.50 modifiers, split backspace, and short R-shift with 1x function key.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/th_RDB150.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/?action=view&current=RDB150.png)

There must be at least 150 total plates ordered for these price, and MOQ for each design is 15. For plates that don't reach 15pcs: They will either be canceled or if we're almost at 15, people from that plate's sub-group can buy up the rest and cost is split between the subgroup. I'll put an option in the order form that if it were be canceled, which plate you'd want the order to default to. If the 2nd preferred plate also gets canceled, you can either pick ANS125, ANS150, or cancel the whole thing. The only two design that well exceed the 15 MOQ are ANS125 and ANS150 based on the votes (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewanalytics?formkey=dE5ET3l3TW40ZXlsSlFpcVZKVFlucmc6MQ).
(example: You want a HHK150, the MOQ is not reached so your order will automatically default to WFD125. The WFD125 also doesn't reach 15 MOQ, so your order automatically defaults to ANS125).

YOUR SUBMITTED ORDER (http://goo.gl/1TIlw)

This is what line-grained will look like. Pretty much the same as brushed aluminum.

Sorry to be stupid.  Perhaps I just forgot, but isn't the phantom board ANSI150 only?  What would you use the other plates for?

What if we ordered through TheProfosist?

He preemptively put the plates in his order form before the company got back to me with all the options on material, price, and surface finish that was finalized. These should override but I'm ironing out the details with him right now.

2 plates, fill it out twice. 4 plates, fill it out 4 times, etc.. This accounts for every plate, and it's easier to manage if a certain design gets cancelled then I'll know which plate it defaults to for that specific one ordered.
EDIT: nevermind, the form was changed so fill it out ONCE only.

$22 shipped?
$22 is picked up straight from the company. I don't think anyone is going to get plates alone, they'll be combined with whatever you're order from Profosist's GB. Whatever he charges extra, you'll have to ask him. It might be a tad higher for shipping to him or handling fees, but I do think $3 higher per plate is a bit much.

I'm also confused about ordering plates. If we order from WFD here, will the plates be shipped to TheProfosist, and then shipped from him to us? And are the ANSI 125/150 plates going to be the same price regardless of who we buy them from?

If shipping wasn't such a pain in the ****, I'd run it. But I'm sure people want plates now not when I have time to run a GB. I also think I could do a better price that $22 or $23

So let me get this straight:

If we ordered from Prof originally....all orders will say intact minus the plates.  So if you ordered switches, plates, LEDs, & stabilizers from Prof you do not need to resubmit the entire order...you only need to resubmit the order for plates?

I apologize for all the confusion and shouldn't have passed on all this for someone else to handle. I'll now be handling everything, including the logistics as well. I'll take the orders, pick up the plates myself, package and ship out everything. I'll find time for all this. Directly from me is still $22 per plate. If all you need is the plate, then I will be the one shipping it to you.

Profosist however, is still having his own GB running for all other parts, so if you ordered stuff from him, I'm shipping some plates to him to go along with his stuff. I think there were about 40 people that filled out his form (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=38471.0). I'm also making the custom spacebar wires in both 6.25x and 7x, so you can get it directly from me or along with his stuff.

Again, sorry for the mess in these first two pages.

I asked the same previously; its disappearance is due to its lack of practicality, and requiring a new special keycap groupbuy (see the caveat of the current custom plates).

Were you still planning on doing this? If WFD is willing to deal with shipping plates out to those who are not getting assembly done by someone else I'd rather just get my plate and wires directly from him and source the stabilizers from somewhere. I really see no reason to have a plate and wires sent to you just because I'm getting a set of stabilizers from you. Especially if the stabilizers can be purchased directly from somewhere.

I really see no reason to have a plate and wires sent to you just because I'm getting a set of stabilizers from you. Especially if the stabilizers can be purchased directly from somewhere.
no this was not planned. I am sorry that this mess happened and will be getting pm/email updates out today. You can do whatever you wish to do.  I only allowed/added just parts to be ordered from my GB because thats what people were asking for. This was because they didnt want to go out and find all the parts separately themselves and would rather have someone else do the work and have it shipped direct to them with exactly what they were looking for.

I'm also confused about ordering plates. If we order from WFD here, will the plates be shipped to TheProfosist, and then shipped from him to us? And are the ANSI 125/150 plates going to be the same price regardless of who we buy them from?
dont buy any from me those will be canceled i will be sending something about that soon

I can understand that some people just want their keyboard built for them or just a package of parts so that they can build it themselves. Where my concern is coming from is when I inquired about getting the parts myself you said I should just order them from your group buy. I think all this information about the parts needed and where to get them from should be consolidated somewhere and placed out in the open so people can make their own decision about whether to get them from you or individually on their own. If everyone orders everything from you and you get overwhelmed with it people may have to wait for items they could have purchased on their own and received sooner.

As for stabilizers, cherry plate mounted are available on mouser, part number is 0G990224 (http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=0G990224virtualkey54010000virtualkey540-G99-0224). Costars are available on WASDkeyboard HERE (http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/keyboard-parts-1.html), bottom half.

I have enough cherry stabilizers for 20 sets that can shipped with the plates. If I run out, you can get your own from the links or from Profosist. If you're getting your own, a complete TKL needs 10 stabilizers, I think shipping from mouser is $7 and WASDkeyboard is $2.50. Currently you can't buy cherry 6.25x or 7x,  and 7x costar wires anywhere so I'll make these when the time comes closer.

That number is only correct if you are buying from WASD.  You need 5 count Cherry parts.  4 2x and 1 space bar.

I also have 25 sets in the classifieds of Cherry plate mount 6.25x space bar

Ah yes they come in pairs, unlike costar stab parts that are all individually bought.

I just found it. lol are you interested in making all 171 wires too? Whatever you don't make, I'll end up making the rest.

The biggest issue with stocking Cherry plate mount stabilizers is the demand level.  It's zero until a project like this comes along and then you have no idea how many will go with Cherry.  I'm not so keen on that level of risk, don't want a chunk of space or money missing for ages.

Nope, only the ANS150, ISO150, HHK150, and RBD150 can support winkeyless. Basically anything with 1.5x mod size.

These plates are designed to fit Filco, PLU, and CM quickfire cases that already exist. Full metal cases require their own plate tailored to fit the case. You can take a gamble on whether a future aluminum case will go into production, and speculate on the price, but just know that those case/plate combo alone will be ~$200 or more. If you don't think you can afford that (assuming they will be made), then grab this plate and a cheap CM quickfire or PLU.

Just buy a plate from this GB.  The price is way more than reasonable (honestly, it's probably the cheapest group buy I've ever partook in).  If the GH full metal case + plate comes to fruition you could always rebuild your phantom.

i may sound stupid asking this but are you 150% sure this QR case will fit the phantom and this plate. if that is the case ill understandably cancel my PLU orders from Prof and grab 2 of these. $80(x2) vs 55(x2) shipped is too big of a difference to ignore, plus its less stuff prof has to send me :)

Hey guys, orders are closing tonight and we're moving into payment. Check your orders here to make sure it's correct:

http://goo.gl/1TIlw (http://goo.gl/1TIlw)

There are about 160 PCBs ordered, but only about 130 plates. Just to mention again that phantom PCB requires a plate for mounting of switches and case. If money is the issue, you can just grab the PCB and plate because these are a one time run, while all other parts (switches, teensy, case, etc) can be bought any time to finish the build later. The only other reason I can think of for not order a plate is if you've already have a plate from Dan, but there were only 20 of them.

And I'm actually ordering MORE plates than I ordered PCBs. I think what may be holding some people back is boost's alu case design with integrated plate.

I'll just say this, there is no real reason NOT to buy one of these plates for every PCB you ordered, unless you only ordered extra PCB in case you screw one up. They are cheap as hell, especially for a stainless steel plate. And even if you want to wait a few months for boost's alu case, what are you losing by buying one of these? $22?

Phantom was designed to be highly customizable in regard to layout options. If you want to change layouts later, you could desolder the switches and do that, if you had another plate.

Not cheaply made, by any means. Really quality work. I prefer the stainless plate over an aluminum plate any day.

Just to add on to this, I'll probably get the case/plate combo boost it designing if it makes it all the way through final production, and price is below $250. But if you're putting all your eggs in one basket on that aluminum case and it doesn't make it to GB stage or if cost is too high, you can't go back and get a cheap plate to go with a plastic case. Beast might do a small run, but I won't be.

Come on PRF125 only 5 more plates needed!

if we're almost at 15, people from that plate's sub-group can buy up the rest and cost is split between the subgroup.

I'm game - currently it works out at about $30 instead of $22 - and if we get the four from jdcarpe's HHK150 then we'll only be a plate shy...

I think the ANS125 plate should work with the PCB, but you won't be able to mount it onto the specific  A.87 case. You might be able to mount the whole ANS125/A.87 combo into a Filco or CM quickfire with a little modding to the plastic case though. These plates are not really PCB specific as long as the layouts match, but they ARE specific to the case they're designed for.

I manually changed your order.

Alright sorry I just Pmd you again without looking at this!

Add the ansi125 to my order too please, gonna try it out and see what happens!

Thanks, and this should make my current order 1 ANSI150 and 1 ANSI125, correct?

WFD,

Can you please remove the ANSI125 Plate from my order? Thanks.

If I can, could I order tonight (Central Time)? Or have you already closed?

hey guys,

what is the plan with the plates which didnt reach the moq of 15, ie PRF125 or ISO 125? Are you gonna make them anyway (for higher price?) or will they be left out completely?

If more orders are needed I only got the ANSI150 but would get HHK150 if it would help. Not sure what I'd use the extra numrow key for, but I'd figure it out.

Post by: jdcarpe on Thu, 31 January 2013, 12:28:11
WFD, is this going forward even without 150 MOQ of plates?

I don't see HHK150 making it, as there are only 4 orders for it, currently. I won't be converting those to any 125 plates. I don't have any use for 1.25 mods on a Phantom, in all honesty. I was going to order a PRF125 plate just for fun, but I dunno if that's going to make 15 MOQ, either. I aleady have two ANS150 plates from DanGWanG/The_Beast, so I don't really need those, either. I was just ordering them to help the MOQ, and because WFD took the time and effort to fix minor issues with the spacing and cutouts for switch opening.

I might as well shove some money over later to anodize it, since i'm likely going to take the keycaps off often to show off the Cherry MX Greens...Might as well have a plate that looks really cool. I'm thinking the color of the black iPad Mini (don't like Apple, but that color looks cool).

These are stainless steel so you'd have to paint or powercoat them if you are planning to recolor them

I'd go paint. I can see powder coating getting too thick to insert a switch into and you having to sand a ton of switch holes to get it to work. But that depends on how tight of a tolerance the laser guy used on this.

So many laggers here. The GB closed at 120 plates, a few days after the deadline there are 155 plates.

Anyways, I have an important update: USPS (http://postcalc.usps.com/) shipping prices just had a HUGE price increase in the past week. Bavman and I been trying to work out the best solution for the past week, and to save everyone double shipping costs of separate plates and PCB, he will ship the plates along with the PCBs. The shipping costs that he already charged for the PCBs were based on the old rates, which now has increased by at least a couple dollars for US, and even higher for international. So instead of paying separate shipping costs for these plates, there will be an extra $2 per plate to combine the shipping with the PCB. This helps cover the increased shipping costs for the PCBs, the added shipping weight of these plates, and costs of shipping the plates to bavman or profosist.

If I'm personally handling PCB/plate to combine with other packages or phantom assembly, there won't be that additional $2. I'll finally start to invoice.

I actually sorted out a list of a small group of people that got plates only, including you. In this case, you'll just have to pay the full shipping cost since you didn't already have to pay the PCB shipping costs that most people paid for.

Does it matter that the invoice doesn't show which plate design I chose?

It takes me too long to type out every plate for each different order. I've already spent hours on this, and not fully done with all domestic invoices. The international orders will get invoices later today or tomorrow. Check your order here instead, it's a more centralized place where I can update:

about to pay..
but i dont understand what does "PHANPlate-52" mean? I order ANSI125.....

It means you're the 52nd person to receive the invoice for a phantom plate. That doesn't specify which plate you ordered.

I just sent paypal invoices to almost everyone, and there were a few that I contacted in PM for large orders of more than 4 plates. If you haven't gotten an invoice yet or something looks incorrect, let me know. It took a long time and I did most of them in between RL tasks, so there might be some mistakes.

Lastly, I just want to thank anyone that paid so quickly or make it a hassle-free order. You guys make GB management so much easier.

Not only are you taking on the work itself, but also the hassle of keeping things in order with all of the cancellations, emailing, and straightening out any issues that may arise. You da man!

There seems to be a mini-GB for a couple larger Germany orders, so I'll coordinate with all these people as well as bavman's PCB and profosist's parts to get you guys the lowest shipping.

Pay it ASAP if you can. Payment was already due on Friday as the invoice states. Basically the longer it takes to pay, the longer the lag to submit order. This plate GB is the limiting factor for the phantom GB right now, time-wise.

Still trying to see if they're going to make it without additional charges. They might add on extra programming fees in the low quantity ones.

What did you ask about the spacebar wire? My inbox is a mess right now, so I might have missed the PM.

First time I got quotes in January was a 3-4 weeks leadtime, depending on their workload. They had to requote, so hopefully their leadtime doesn't change.

Post by: esoomenona on Mon, 25 February 2013, 13:10:28
I apologize for not paying until now. I just made my payment.

The reason I hadn't paid is because I was curious whether or not the plate I ordered would even go through, being that the amount ordered was very low. And, unlike others, I chose not to supply a second option as a backup choice, because the only other I may be interested in I already have two of. I asked this more than once, but have yet to receive a response. I suppose if anything, I will just be refunded. Sorry for holding things up if some of the plates with smaller orders actually will be placed.

Also, WFD, that PM was regarding some 7x spacebar wires (Cherry, as well as Costar if you're making them). I wanted to order a couple, and was curious whether they would be added to my order. Being that that order was paid, perhaps we can work out a new invoice on those?

Guys I have bad news. It's actually terrible news considering this point in time:

I got a call from the company to come check out the small batch they did to make sure they're ok before they finished up the rest. The quality of the plates they already did was total  garbage and I didn't accept them. Talked to them for a while on the spot, and we basically concluded that they will be taking majority of the loss but I let them keep the programing and setup fees, which were out of my own pocket.

If you want to know why they turned out like crap, it's because the laser cutter is 2500w compared to a 4000w high end machine that I had the last plate GB done at. Lower power means it takes longer to cut each plate, which means it uses up more of their gas tanks. When they try to artificially boost the speed just by 20%, then it does not cut all the way through at some areas. Tolerance is just terrible in general, and there's too much warping/distortion.

I'm actually pretty pissed and stressed out about this. I'm kinda sick of dealing and negotiating with different companies, and driving to some of them. I think best solution is to just go back to the original company, get a requote at the current quantities, drop the two lowest designs since programming costs for them are too high, and just submit the order if it's a reasonable quote. I've been trying to avoid going higher than what I already invoiced for, but it looks like price will increase a few dollars per plate to make up for all the cancellations and non-payment. I'm just going to pay for it all upfront and whatever the price difference is per plate, you can pay me back if you feel like it. I just don't want to spend anymore time nagging for payment and making sure you paid a few bucks.

Those cuts look terrible. You should have just given them a spare plat and told them to make it look like this. I looks like the machine was forced to rush through it. Its been a long time since I did any metal work, but I remember if you try to rush with a plasma cutter it usually screws up your cuts like in the pictures you posted

I'm sorry this had to happen guys. All those late payments and last minute cancellations a few months ago really didn't help. At this point, I can't cancel, add more plates, or make anymore changes. I've already submitted a requote for exact numbers of plates. If there are any changes now, then it would have to be cancelled and the whole process starts over. There will be some people that change their minds once they receive stuff, so you can sort that out afterwards.

I do not need the ANSI 1.50 plate I ordered—not because of the QC problem above: I now have a 7bit plate. If someone stateside wants to take the plate off my hands at cost, let me know.

I just drove 3 hours round trip to pick them up. Quality on these are really nice. Lines are very clean, good tolerances, surface finishes, overall exceeded my expectations. They even individually wrapped them. If I would have known they turned out this good, I would have bought a few extras, but I already spent more than what I invoiced for, so it was not possible to buy extras. Sorry guys, you'll have to source the owner of these plates.

This is only most of them, Beast is having the smaller quantity designs being cut right now, so I have no ETA on those. I'll be shipping these first though.

I'll email my guy and see where he's at in terms of production.

Yeah sometimes this week for most of them. But I need to straighten out which plates go where, and it's a mess right now. People have been selling orders and it no longer goes to original owner. Then I have to figure out which ones stay with me, goes to bavman, ship directly to buyers, or whether to send any to profosist or not. I cannot contact that guy to confirm anything or get payment he's owed me for a while now.

You really should be looking for a ANSI150 plate...What's the point of getting a Phantom if you're going to use a layout you can get on any commercially available keyboard??? :P

He is probably confused because the plates look like they support a number pad, but that is just to support a Quickfire TK style of layout if im not mistaken.

I got the rest of the plates from Beast. The box felt like it weighed 200 pounds. This thing was dragged all the way from the main office, up my stairs. Lazy-ass deliverer didn't want to carry it up my stairs :/

Plates that Beast sent have slight curves, so you'll have to unbend them before installing the PCBs. There are about 50, so I don't have time to unbend them myself before shipping, but it should only take you 5 min. I'll get to shipping these out in the next week. There are about 140 total.

They just have a slight curvature to them from going through the time saver in only one direction. It's really no big deal to straighten them out before you install your switches.

Sorry - I was a little vague. It is 0.06" on the costar spec sheet. However, it's hard to find sheets of this thickness. Try to get 1.5mm if you can, but I've heard it's hard to get this in the USA. 1/16" is easy to find and will also work okay, however you might need to sand it down to get costar stabilisers to fit.

Most places carry 1.5mm / 0.06".  It doesn't matter so much.  For example, the KMAC comes with a pretty thin plate... more like 1.0mm.

By the way, you can definitely get your parts made just for you (I do it regularly these days) however you will find that it is way more expensive than the group buy prices.  Economy of scale.  I probably should have mentioned that in my previous comment.

So apparently there were a few order transfers without letting me know. I'm not a mind reader you know. When I have to track down who to properly send it to, it slows things down.

I would very, very much like to pick up one of these plates, is this GB still open? My apologies in advance, I'm still a GH noob.
ANS150 - ANSI layout with bottom modifiers in 1.5x - 1x - 1.5x and 7x space bar. Popular with Cherry or Korean customs

ISO125 - ISO layout with 1.25x bottom modifiers and 6.25x space bar.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/th_ISO125-rev2.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/?action=view&current=ISO125-rev2.png)

ISO150 - ISO layout with bottom modifiers in 1.5x - 1x - 1.5x configuration and 7x space bar.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/th_ISO150-rev2.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/?action=view&current=ISO150-rev2.png)

NOTE ON THE FOLLOWING PLATES: there are a few more custom ones that I've added. There are no keycap sets with proper legends that will fully accommodate to these 4 new ones, not even a tsangan kit from SP. Only choice you really have is to get them from WASD, which only comes in ABS and lasered legends if you want a matching set. Otherwise you'll have to mix and match keycaps from different sets, so buy these plates with discretion. If you're unsure, think about also picking up a more standard plate, because there won't be a round2 for these plates.

PRF125 - Profosist's custom layout. Extra 2 keys in the function row, split L-shift key, split backspace, short Enter + 1x, short R-shift + 1x
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/th_PRF125.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/?action=view&current=PRF125.png)

HHK150 - jdcarpe's proposed layout. It's basically a HHKB layout with the extra function row keys that are specific to phantom PCB.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/th_HHK150.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/?action=view&current=HHK150.png)

WFD125 - This is my personal favorite. It's based on ANSI, similar to a HHKB layout but has standard function row and 1.25 bottom modifiers. Easier compatibility with keycap sets.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/th_WFD125.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/?action=view&current=WFD125.png)

RBD150 - Last one for our ISO fans. 1.50 modifiers, split backspace, and short R-shift with 1x function key.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/th_RDB150.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/keyboard/plates/?action=view&current=RDB150.png)

There must be at least 150 total plates ordered for these price, and MOQ for each design is 15. For plates that don't reach 15pcs: They will either be canceled or if we're almost at 15, people from that plate's sub-group can buy up the rest and cost is split between the subgroup. I'll put an option in the order form that if it were be canceled, which plate you'd want the order to default to. If the 2nd preferred plate also gets canceled, you can either pick ANS125, ANS150, or cancel the whole thing. The only two design that well exceed the 15 MOQ are ANS125 and ANS150 based on the votes (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewanalytics?formkey=dE5ET3l3TW40ZXlsSlFpcVZKVFlucmc6MQ).
(example: You want a HHK150, the MOQ is not reached so your order will automatically default to WFD125. The WFD125 also doesn't reach 15 MOQ, so your order automatically defaults to ANS125).

GB isn't open. However, IIRC the plates are Open Source, so you can download/make your own...though you need a phantom to do so...

UPDATE

I've started shipping plates a few days ago, so some people should start receiving them. If you've PM'ed me, I've read them and will update the spreadsheet (will link the google doc once everything is finalized). On average, each plate was $1.42 more than what I invoiced for because we did not meet MOQ from cancellations and non-payments. I had to get the lower quantity cut from Beast's local cutter, otherwise I'd lose even more money from lower price tiers. This extra cost is not much per plate, but did add up to a decent amount at 140 plates. You can pay this difference if you'd like, but I'm forcing you. Paypal is whitefiredragon1 @ hotmail . com *without the spaces* gift preferred. I won't be keeping track or check who's paying. Now to mention a few things about the plates:

My local laser cutting company: ANS125 - ANS150
Beast's local laser cutter: - ISO125 - ISO150 - PRF125 - HHK150 - WFD125 - RBD150

All plates from Beast are bent, so they MUST be bent flat again before you solder on the PCB, otherwise it'll bend the PCB and may not mount inside the case correctly. This should only take 5 minutes. Here are a few pics below to show what  you can expect so there are no surprises when you get them:

Here are all the plates before I started shipping. All plates sourced from me were individually wrapped by the company, all plates from beast will come bare.
[attach=1]

Here's the noticeable bend in plates from Beast. Again, you must straighten it out before installing. Plates from my source are already flat, ready to install.
[attach=2]

They don't have the same surface finishes, so here's just a comparison. My source is line-grained going vertical and more smooth and reflective. Beast's source have the brushed finish going horizontal, look a tad whiter and less reflective. Beast's plate will also be some scratches, so I'm just letting you know these blemishes in advance.
[attach=3] [attach=4]

The bottom on Beast's plates have some track marks from the time saver machine. They also have blow-out marks from the molten steel during the cutting. These are on almost every hole, so just be careful you don't cut yourself on these marks. You can peel/pry them off if you'd like. Plates from my source have a very small burn outline on the bottom. No other marks.

I'm just glad I bought extra plates now. WFD that looks like a really good cutting source you've got. Hopefully I can do a little work on the 2 plates using Beast's cutter and still get good results. Thanks again for organizing this.

So I'd like to pony up on the extra cost you incurred. Was the $1.42 for all the plates ordered, or just the plates you had to send to Beast's cutter?

It would be extremely hard to break a plate bending it straight. You simply place the edge on a table and gently apply pressure to the middle of the plate until it sits flat on a table

This didn't work for my Poker plate. I even put the plate between two flat wood boards and put approx. 30kg weight on it. Left it for 2 weeks. Still looked the same. I angrily bent it by hand in mid air. I roared like Bagger 288 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azEvfD4C6ow) while doing so.

To be honest, I'm glad I got my plate from WFD's cutting shop, I just hope it won't bend during transit.

Yes I don't see how laying it flat could possibly straighten it.  Steel is way too springy for that.  You have to bend it in the opposite direction (carefully)

Exactly this, you need to push it the opposite way of the bend to make it flat

It's not hard, doesn't require a lot of force and can be done in 5 minutes max

Have these been sent to Bavman?
Title: Re: Phantom PLATES (shipping)
Post by: WhiteFireDragon on Sat, 01 June 2013, 04:42:22
Yeah they're shipped. The hold up of plate and PCB shipments was because several orders were passed on to another person, and I also had to sort the mess from Profosist's group. Many of these people, especially the German sub-group, needed me to ship it instead of Profosist. All of this had to be worked out before bavman can send me the PCBs, and before I can send him the plates.

I just received my batch of PCBs, as well as Profosist's batch of PCBs that I'll now be handling.

That's correct, I have all of them right now. I can distribute these myself, or I can choose to ship to him. But seeing how he is right now, I doubt you'll want that.

Ok if you don't fully know what's going on, I've sent one large batch of plates to bavman a while ago, so that he can combine them with PCBs to ship. I believe bavman just shipped out most the US orders, and working on the international ones. I only have a small batch of plates to ship out with PCBs. I just made this list public, use the tabs on the bottom to see if I have your plate or bavman has it. It also shows which plates you ordered:

Same as green. Those are different color for me and bavman to keep track that those ones were manually added at the end. Bavman has yours, and he should be combining it with your PCB to ship.
