Who are your GeekHack heros, or people you think make GH a better place?
Personally, I think DanGWang is one of mine. He is very lax and knows his stuff. He's always open to learning something new, and always willing to help you learn something new.
Another one of mine would be Glissant/Moonprismpwr (since they kinda come as a package deal). Glissant and his wife have been very gracious to our community via giveaways and sharing their art (well, Moonprismpwr's art, I don't think Glissant can draw IIRC). Again, Glissant is always out there to help you learn something. Plus, his wife is super supportive of him.
All in all, these people have really made learning about this hobby a great pleasure. Just thought I'd sweeten somebody's day. :)

Seeing as I can apparently call for your help in any thread and have you respond quickly, I'd say you? :D
And DanGWanG's blog is really helpful for really good info and pictures.
Oh and i3oilermaker for being an awesome seller and running TK. I love that he runs those promotions and he's super easy to deal with when you order from him.
-
Currently MMB, he knows why ;) And obviously CC, GH wouldn't be the same without him. Not only does CC draw in more people to the community, is always informative and responsive to questions, but such a thing as a small plastic skull is like a gateway drug for many into the wonderful world of mechanical keyboards.
-
special mention for the reigning GH troll champion: tp4tissue
-
but for real... some people who HAVEN'T been mentioned yet:
demik for deciding getting his butt in shape, and then DOING IT!
soarer's sorer, but he's a damn genius.
haata... nuff said.
hashbaz and his infinite patience and attention to detail.
JesuswasaZombie is also one of my heroes, he's is just so good at keyboards. AND SO DREAMY.
-
Boost, reaper, Tsangan and i3oilermaker, in no particular order. They are the most helpful and responsive for me and greatest contributors.
-
All the new members are my heroes, they continue to remind us of what GH really is about.

Input Nirvana has the best stories
-
DanGWang, Sherryton, Whitefiredragon, danielucf, i3oilermaker
-
Wait no one has mentioned iMav yet, WE LOVE YOU IMAV!!!
-
jcrouse, bpiphany, and others
Edit: Soarer!
-
I haven't had much experience with members here but so far I would say DangWang, boost, lysol, Whitefiredragon and hashbaz. Picked them for being friendly, informative and making geekhack forum worth visiting. =)
-
Soarer for keeping his conversion code program thread up to date and answering any question, no matter how stupid.
-
jdcarpe has helped me a ton in my brief time at GeekHack so I would have to give him the nod.
-
I like everyone, except that guy who trolled me on slickdeals... only to leave the discussion with his tail between his legs when he was proven wrong about "typing skills", , what's his face..

:)) :)) :))
But seriously, I have to honestly say that if it wasn't for MW, I wouldn't be a member here... but he isn't quite worthy of the GHero status...
Truth be told, iMav is the one true hero here... without him, this site wouldn't exist.
-
Can we post twice? I forgot to mention cactux. He is / was awesome. Where have you gone, mi amigo?
Also demik. We had a little rough patch but I always value his opinions and we see things about the same way.

I'd have to say (in no particular order): iMav, hashbaz, boost, DanGWang, mkawa, reaper, rknize, aggiejy, WhiteFireDragon, i3oilermaker, bpiphany.
Shoutouts to: Glissant, SmallFry, TheProfosist, The_Beast, Quarzac
And friends...you know who you are. :)

That being said, ripster #1.

I miss jpm804 ;_;

Quite a few people here are nice. Surprisingly less trolls than most of the forums I frequent.
WRXChris PMed me once to tell me how I should install a plugin to notify me when a page changes, so I'll know when a CC suddenly becomes available on ELKB. I originally believed that everyone wanted one for themselves, and won't do anything to jeopardise their chances of getting one, but I guess I was wrong:)!
jeroplane also PMed me to notify me on how a set of RGB with white legends(that I was looking for months ago) was available on ebay.
Most of the people that I've sold/bought keycaps from were very nice too.
Overall I think this is a great community

Thanks.....
My shortlist....mmmty, tsangan, reaper, demik and the original CC hoarder Kisa...
-
DanGWanG, MMB, mistakemistake... and hasu :D
Do vendors count? feng and imsto are so important to GH.
-
so this is a post where everyone stands around and gives each other high fives? or is it that kind of post where people sit around in a cir.. .........nm...wont go there
I have been a member here for a few months, i kind of thought there was no reason coming here because all this place does is make me buy more stuff!! its insane how much this place encourages spending. but what keeps me around here now is the DIY stuff and the people that aren't scaring me away. people like WhiteFireDragon, and TheProfosist, and MANY others--its actually unfair to single out 2 people out of dozens.
maybe someday ill have something to contribute, hopefully people will still be around to see it.
edit: + jdcarpe :)

jcrouse
-
My non-exhaustive list in no particular order:
reaper -- for being the nicest guy on the forum, and for taking me out for kbbq
Input Nirvana -- for being a sincere and passionate dude
mkawa -- energy and passion to spare
aggiejy -- my group buy mentor, level-headed and community-minded
sth/JWaZ -- hella cool bay area bros
i3oilermaker -- the forum's best-run GBs
demik -- don't let his prickly exterior fool you, he's a softie
the new generation (off the top of my head): kmiller, SmallFry, The_Beast, Glissant, &cet. -- for being awesome and fun and community-minded
-
DanGWang for always answering any question I've ever had and for helping me get started here. I was so lost and intimidated when I first found gh, and I came to him purely out of coincidence and he really helped me out.
demik for being brutally honest. He's never afraid to speak his mind and I definitely admire him a lot for that. Not to mention he really knows his stuff. I don't think I've ever shared a single word with demik, but I'm always giddy to read one of his posts. Also, he likes ATHF which is a huge plus.
-
A quick list of people that I think make this place amazing is as follows:
jdcarpe, hashbaz, boost, DanGWang, mkawa, reaper, Halverson, WhiteFireDragon, i3oilermaker, bpiphany, SmallFry, TheProfosist, The_Beast, phetto, tjcaustin, demik, Computer-Lab in Basement.
There are plenty of other people that make this board great, but these are the ones that have stood out to me (and that I could remember right now lol).
Circle jerking or not, this is a great idea to give a little acknowledgment to the people that YOU think deserve it :).
-
Everyone that isn't all of you, excluding all of you.
Lysol provided me with my first set of doubleshots which I still absolutely love, and I enjoy seeing the new stuff he comes up with from hunting. Jdcarpe, Reaper, Glissant/ Moonprismprw et. all are just awesome, really nice people.
-
Everyone that isn't all of you, excluding all of you.
-
Komar for being a polish hacker....and a keyboard god!
Lots of GHeros out there, all the guys designing keyboard parts and getting things of the ground: The_Beast, WFD, Litster, jdCarpe, Danielcuf, Hash, bpiphany...the list is long check the GB section for more names
And also Demik because he has 7342 posts
-
I'd like to add Batmann to the list because he lives in France.
-
:-*
(note that this is not a French kiss)
-
Main people I have contact with are those who are in IRC, but on the forums I have seen so many helpful and generous people that to be honest I would be here forever trying to name them all. I guess I will give a shout out to Rayuki though for sending me a Christmas present ;)
-
^ for being a girl
-
^ I second that

Heard my name in here a few times and I just want to thank everyone for their support and everlasting commitment to GH. While I'll say my recent times on GH haven't been the best, it's because of people like you who can appreciate how much I love GH, that I keep supporting it day in and day out. The culture on here, as mentioned previously, is far superior than other forums I frequent and there is a trust here (even amongst the noobs) that proper etiquette is demanded whether it's in sales, or in posts.
There are far too many people to name that I have met and dealt with in the past 2+ years, but the ones who contribute positive thinking, promote excellent service and attention to detail and provide constructive thinking will always be heroes in my book. You should already know you are. I praise those with strong wills and those who have the ability to resist becoming a troll or feeding a troll.
We have seen many heroes come and go here on GH, and their departures are always left a mystery or a martyr. I've been debating myself which one it would be =)
-
Everyone is a GH-Hero ^_^

I really love to look at the pictures DanGWanG posts here. Especially the 420 themed ones. Awesome boards and clacks combined with a nice theme. :) This is more then only a picture of a board. Looks more like a complete lifestyle he expresses in these pictures. Hard for me to explain that in english, hope you understand what I mean.
And of coures clickclack for doing art that's affordable and that I can enjoy every day while working on my computer.
-
I freaking love everyone here, this place is awesome in general.
Also, I hear that bavman guy is pretty awesome

Ripster...

Hard to pick heroes.
To me. Anyone who runs a good group buy, spends countless hours doing an interest check, ones that design community related boards, provide services that no one else will do, who helps us gets the things we really want, the ones who host giveaways just for the smiles, the ones who take you under their wing to teach and share, who help people in need and donate to our needs, the folks who speak their mind with only hopes to make this a better place, those are all the heroes on GH.
And anyone who I chat with quite frequently in forum or in messages, definitely make this forum an enjoyable place to be. You all know who you are :D
Much love from the Girlshark Wizbro who lives amongst the ice and snow in the frigid northern land of Canada.
-
I just want to let everyone know that I am honored to even see my name mentioned in this thread. I hope I am able to help any of you when you need it.
The reason I frequent this forum is for all the great interactions I have with the members here. I try to make my purpose here one of helping to make this community a success.
What I consider success is twofold. Firstly, educating people about this hobby to further their enjoyment of it. And secondly, collaborating with other members to create things that are unique or customized to our desires. Again, to increase enjoyment of the hobby while interacting in a respectful way with others who have similar interests.
-
Aww, he even loves us enough to double post. :3

Aww, he even loves us enough to double post. :3
Shoutout to AT&T mobile broadband for that one. Fixed now. :)
-
Alessandro, I would triple post for you, man <3.
-
I would still have to say pre-meltdown/narcissistic/martyred Ripster. There was a time he was actually useful.
iMav, of course, that goes without saying. DangWang, boost, jdcarpe, i3oilermaker, and TheProfosist for his awesome assembly services.
<3 to everybody here, one of my few "default" websites that I just load up by default whenever I'm bored.
-
There are many people I deeply respect on this forum, but I think the people I admire the most are:
bpiphany, hasu, and soarer. (I also really like haata, but thats another story :)) )
I respect these people for their work with controllers and adapters :)
-
Ripster! R.I.P. my friend ;_;
-
Personally, in order, I will also name iMav for being the captain through fair waters and foul, Ripster who made monumental contributions and bootstrapped me from knowing nothing to knowing a moderate amount (but then went berserk and ugly), and finally to Soarer who created a path for me to find my own keyboard nirvana in an F-122.
And, also: everyone here with whom I have had "business" dealings have been totally great and dependable.
PS - I know that I am doing something right/wrong because I have never been named by anybody in any of these things.
-
i like all of GH, besides the people that annoy me.
i love all the people that helped me out when my dog needed surgery. that, i'll never forget :)
-
I remember that... I couldn't help but wished I could have. How is the pup?
-
annoying as ever!
-
Mine too. :P Glad to hear they're doing well.
-
You guys n your puppies! :D
Puppies are my heroes of cuteness
-
Ripster, till he ate himself inside out.
-
Just saw this thread, and I'm surprised my name came up a couple times. For whatever reason it is, thanks guys!
Here is my list in no order: alaricljs, komar007, hasu, bpiphany, DanGWanG, dorkvader, reaper, and many more. I need to also mention ripster from 2 years ago. The dude did have some good content that was also as much as his trolling. I need to also mention tp4tissue for being the replacement troll, although a few of his posts are actually decent lol. None of it bothers me though. Don't worry buddy I don't hate you or anything, so nothing personal.
This actually made me realize this forum has very few trolls.
-
In no particular order and I've probably missed a few...
inlikeflynn - nicest and most genuine person on GH
lysol - Cherry genius/walking encyclopedia - I have learnt so much from him
WhiteFireDragon - always provides great technical insight
reaper - really nice guy and is always supporting others
The_Beast - seems like a cool dude who sees things straight; also wood
hashbaz - great mod and GB creator/supporter
mkawa - works hard for the forum
i3oilermaker - single-handedly responsible for the majority of novelty key caps and GBs
Glissant - genuinely generous to an unbelievable extent
-
My non-exhaustive list in no particular order:
reaper -- for being the nicest guy on the forum, and for taking me out for kbbq
Input Nirvana -- for being a sincere and passionate dude
mkawa -- energy and passion to spare
aggiejy -- my group buy mentor, level-headed and community-minded
sth/JWaZ -- hella cool bay area bros

demik -- don't let his prickly exterior fool you, he's a softie
the new generation (off the top of my head): kmiller, SmallFry, The_Beast, Glissant, &cet. -- for being awesome and fun and community-minded
half a mention is half as much attention as i deserve :P
-
sth
there, full mention!
-
I'd have to say (in no particular order): iMav, hashbaz, boost, DanGWang, mkawa, reaper, rknize, aggiejy, WhiteFireDragon, i3oilermaker, bpiphany.
Shoutouts to: Glissant, SmallFry, TheProfosist, The_Beast, Quarzac
And friends...you know who you are. :)
Considering I basically just lurk around the classifieds and OT now with the occasional leap into keyboards to handle some newbie questions, I am honored.

You ran the first GB I was a part of, the WYSE moogle. But yeah, you should post sometime when you're not busy playing SNES. :P
-
Boost, Sherryton, Hazeluff, 13oilermaker, hashbaz, plus all the other guys that have been mentioned a bunch of times already.
-
All of the vendors who make this community an awesome place.. feng, |3oiler, etc.
samwise for all of the effort he puts into GB's
-
I think Soarer deserves some mention -- create converter and he gives technical support! DanGWang for being a generally funny bastard. Cruel, but funny. If DanGWang wins, he should receive a customized, hand-painted keycap. With glitter and bedazzlerized.
Edit: Also fohat.digs, Akimbro, Dorkvader -- for being very knowledgable about vintage boards!
-

I've tried to forget about group buys. I won't be running another one for a long while, at least. My SNES is actually on the other side of the country. It's all about the college now.
-
Imsto...
For getting me so much cool stuff in the past years! :)

I hadn't bought them cheap, I just don't want to tell the truth.
I think you're talking about those dyesubs boards. What I can say now is only to tell you
that I won't have any profit if I sell them for 350 usd each.
-
oh so lying is fine if you do it?
gotcha.
if i remember correctly, the guy said you found them in a dump or something similar. and boy, were you quick to close that thread.

yes, I did. If you want to blame/ **** me, you can do it. I apologise for anything I did before.
Edit: grammar mistake

yeah, next time don't get on your high horse when you sat there and lied to people.

time to say the truth. A taobao seller, who can get **** loads of these things, want me to sell them. He found me, I don't know how he find me. He wants me to sell them 350 usd each. I did it and lied.

Hey, I was in HK for a few days last year and I had a horrible experience w/ customer service there. Everywhere I went people just didn't give a ****. Okay, maybe 1 store that was kind of nice. What's up with that??

because people there is so ficking busy. But... I'm curious which store you go.
-
Busy I guess... Started from the cab to the hotel, hotel lobby, ... people just don't smile and welcome you into their stores. Disney HK people weren't too bad.

I don't know for sure, but sounds as though they are probably working long hours on **** pay to try to make ends meet. I could be wrong though.

Oh, and most stores had "no photo" signs.

Oh, and most stores had "no photo" signs.
I saw someone in a shop here (Aus) recently tell a customer they aren't allowed to take pictures while in the store.
-
There are some horrible people in here, and hyenas, but there are also awesome and amazing people too, I'd pick WhiteFireDragon, DanGWanG, MMB, balanar, rayuki, dorkvader, jcrouse, SinisterSquirl and more. Just amazing bros. Really hats off to you guys, I will be leaving GH(keyboard) soon, but I've met these awesome and helpful people that I won't forget. Thanks everyone. :)
-
Oh, and most stores had "no photo" signs.
I saw someone in a shop here (Aus) recently tell a customer they aren't allowed to take pictures while in the store.
I can sort of understand this in flagship stores, but generally I can't see why a store would have a no photo policy. Could anyone explain this to me?
-
I can't see why some people get so upset about making profits.
If I pulled a keyboard out of a garbage can, cleaned it up, tested it, and sold it for $100, I would just say that I had a stroke of good fortune.
If I bought a keyboard for $50 and sold it for $100, that would be a lesser stroke of good fortune.
In my life, the opposite of those 2 scenarios are usually what has happened.
As I learned it, the definition of a "good business transaction" is where both parties walk away satisfied with the deal.
If I stumbled across a pile of valuable keyboards for free, or cheap, I would feel perfectly justified to sell them at the "fair market price" and if I offered a "good" or "great" deal to GHers on this forum, well, that would be a very kindly gesture, but I do not think that I would be an @sshole if I didn't.
-

The most common explanation is security. It's a whole lot easier to case the joint when you can just take pictures and study at your leisure.

there is "so little" money in individual sales \\ retail sells.. selling retail SUXORS period.... Wholesale is much easier and quick...

y'all are my heroes. we staff would not volunteer our time and often money to run this forum if we didn't appreciate the entire community. sure, there's going to be drama and people won't always get along, but you are helping to build a living breathing community; we just twiddle the bits in the background.
-
Stop twiddling my bits, Mystery kawa!!
-
just want to bump the positivity after the rollercoaster that was the latter half of the week.

In the last few weeks I've met some really cool kids. Just wanted to give some shoutouts to rowdy, turbo slaab, the_beast, tsangan, megaforce93, and mkawa for helping me with my projects or just being cool and chatting it up with me. ;D
-
Anyone keeping stats on all the name dropping we got so far?
-
I don't think it is a contest as much as a nice place to say thanks and you appreciate someone.
-
I CAN BE YOUR HEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

I see how it is... :P

We can be heros
Just for one day
-
I don't think it is a contest as much as a nice place to say thanks and you appreciate someone.
Well then thanks to the OP to start such a thread.
I mean, thank God we now have a place to say thanks to someone we appreciate.
Sarcasm aside ... Maybe I'm just old school, but I don't need a thread for that. I just say it and write it every times someone do something nice.
-
BucklingSpring, so why in the world did you post here? Just to be a grouch?
It's obvious that some people want to thank others for their contribution in this thread.
Like me for-example; I posted a list of people I appreciate because I don't say "thank you" or "job well done" half as much as I feel I should, but that's because I don't like to bother people via private message unless it's really necessary.
Other people have their own reasons for posting a little nod, but who are you to come here and make jokes about what people want to express?
I could just as easily mock your signature for being so extremely gaudy and excessive that I wonder if you're a teenager, and then claim that I am old school because we didn't like to brag about owning a bunch of stuff back in the day.
Of course that's just an exaggeration, but I hope you see what I'm trying to convey.
Now get off my lawn, whippersnapper! ;) .
~~~~
That being said I would like to extend another nod to Dan the man and Ultra dude J.D.; they are awesome people that always seem to take care of the community in a big way.
And let's not forget;
THANK YOU,MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY!
-
It's good enough that Glissant is nice enough to double post for us, put post rainbows for us? This man just keeps on giving!
-
Ripster.
Hold your horses - I'm happy with this thread.
I came back with a grouchy comment in reply to the pseudo moralizing response I got when I asked if someone was keeping stats. Thats all.
I understand the spirit even if it's no Hollywood Walk of Fame or a Wall in honor of the fallen...
That said... I too miss Ripster and DangWang
I know he is still around, but I also miss Keyboardlover's outrageous and colorful statements.
-
Well I am glad I was wrong then =D.
Do you miss ripster before he went nuts or after? Because I never got to meet ripster before he went completely mental xD.
-
Even after he went 'crazy,' a few conversations I had with him were very non 'crazy'. He told me information when I asked, and was not snide or anything, it was like he and I were long time pals.
-
Well I am glad I was wrong then =D.
Do you miss ripster before he went nuts or after? Because I never got to meet ripster before he went completely mental xD.
I dont' think Ripster ever went nuts...just overly sarcastic. Sarcasm doesn't transfer well over text. Deciphering sarcasm is really all about the physical, in person aspect of its delivery. He's a genuinely nice guy when you talk to him through PM like SmallFry said.
I was new then and said and did a few dumb things but as stated, ripster was always very nice in pms. I think his issues were mostly against the mods, not the general membdrs.
I agree. It's absolutely normal to act the way he did :).
Sorry, but ripster did go crazy. Not literally insane maybe, but his troll-to-signal ratio quadrupled and he became destructive to the forum.
edit: That said, when I was new he was often very helpful in general, and to me personally. So props to him for that.
Well I am glad I was wrong then =D.
Unfortunately, I was not around when he did whatever got him banned. So I guess I miss him for before.
But I always enjoy a good show, even if it is considered inappropriate or if I do not agree with what is going on.
So I would probably have enjoyed watching him heading to the ban. He's a big boy. I'm sure he knew what he was doing.
moderators for keeping ppl at their best, and the rest of the gang for being so darn nice that when they misbehave they make even the mods look bad.
Seriously, my first impressions on the forum was how sincerely nice people were/are.
I can sort of understand this in flagship stores, but generally I can't see why a store would have a no photo policy. Could anyone explain this to me?
The most common explanation is security. It's a whole lot easier to case the joint when you can just take pictures and study at your leisure.
The other angle is that they don't want you using it as a price-comparison tool.
Dante. Enough said.
Did Dante pass away or something?
His posts were awesome, there is little to no keyboard information on here since he was banned. He did get quite annoying towards the end though!
In the short time that I've been here through the forums/PMs via classifieds, everyone has been positive! Definitely one of my default pages to have open.
So, everyone.
iArson is really an amazing person. He's a great guy to talk to and an extremely helpful person. I'm really glad to have met him here.
