So I know I have said I hate auctions, but hear me out. What if we ran auctions with penny bids, but you can only bid a single penny at a time. Set a top limit for price, but give people the thrill they seek in auctions. For example...(NOT REAL)
I have one BroClack: Max price= $50
Bids start at $10 to cover shipping penny bids go up to $50, so there must be 4,000 bids to reach $50. So, 4,000th bidder or highest bid at midnight on such and such a day wins.
Thoughts?

all that is going to do is add unnecessary posts to people's post counts.
and make threads long for absolutely no reason.

It would make things a lot more fun! But is it the prices they're going up to in auctions, or that they're being auctioned that's the issue?
-
does anyone really care about post count?

I've actually been turned down by a few sellers due to my post count even though I have plenty of heat :P

well, i'd rather somebody have a low post count but contribute, than a high post count of
10.01
10.02
10.03 and so on.

I just don't like how the prices skyrocket, so have bidding wars, but not the crazy prices, ya know?
-
that's sadly never going to change due to hype my friend.
people salivate over CCs, korean keyboards, and w/e else gh goes crazy over due to hype.
in come the deep pocket new GHers that want to feel like they are a part of it.
-
maybe $.10 bids instead?
-
no difference.
still unnecessary post counts.
just keep auctions off GH and onto ebay.
-
Or $1 with only the chance to bid up to (only as an example) 5 times.

I won't deal with people <60 anymore on anything more than a single keycap unless they can show heatwave or some other form of feedback.
All of the people i've had problems with have been <60 and no other feedback to show

I kinda like this

I mean it would work, essentially making people bid smart. I am hypocrite though, because I do find the need to bid max, just to avoid beating around the bush.
-
Yeah... just throwing ideas out there. I just like the bidding wars, I like the fun of them, just not the prices they make. I may sell some of my stuff this way or a variation of it to test it out. :) just for fun and all:)

They do have penny auctions sites but they work such a way that the bidder buys bids lets say 100 bids for x amount....
Item starts off for a penny and bidder can bid in penny increments which then would curb the skyrocketing price.... In the end the auction ends at a lower price than if based on an eBay style system...
Catch is the if you bid and didn't win you technically paid to not win anything, but also makes you think about running up the bids...
Interesting concept, most people say these sites are shady which I think they are but definitely a different approach to auctioning style.
-
I know of those systems, I was proposing free bids, since I don't wanna get into the buying bids type of stuff. Lol.

Mmmm free buds
Thanks for editing SmallFry! Makin me look all silly

Or just do a random give away if you have a set max price
-
Like a lottery type deal?
-
Who don't we have those backwards charity auction where the lowest price wins? I'm sure everyone would love that. ;)

Idk what you're talking about...bud. :P

I'll take the BroClack for $50 :p
I don't like auctions in any shape or form - just name your price and decide if you want to entertain offers below in my opinion!
My other gripe with auctions is low increase amounts in bids, losing an auction is bad enough but loosing by a few dollars? Rage

I might be down to write some kind of forum bidding software where it works like ebay where you can set a limit saying "go up to this price" and people can place bids normally that automatically hike prices. Of course I'd like to be able to store the data on GHs servers and I don' t know if they wouldn't just want to do that themselves as it is pretty simple code.....

Supply and demand are almost a force of nature.
End times for auctions create little bursts of excitement, but I dislike disappointment more than I enjoy winning, so I look for "Buy-It-Now" situations whenever I can.
I like to play poker with the kids for beans or buttons, but actual money, even individual cents, changes the landscape.
I don't really like bidding and auctions, because if I want something, I want it. Sure, it is nice to make a "find" and snag it for a low price, but that usually only happens when the pool of bidders is as small as possible.

The only thing wrong with auctions on GH is that the medium sucks. Just use ebay. If it is profit you have a problem with, then you are a commie.
