http://www.amazon.com/Storm-QuickFire-Rapid-Mechanical-SGK-4000-GKCL1-US/dp/B0068INSUM
Looks like the lowest it's ever been on Amazon before today was $64 in Aug/Sept. Average price being $69 over the past year.
Price history: http://camelcamelcamel.com/Storm-QuickFire-Rapid-Mechanical-SGK-4000-GKCL1-US/product/B0068INSUM
-
That is pretty close to the lowest, which was around $45 after MIR. They're floating around retail computer stores (Fry's, Micro Center) for $60.
-
Here's another graph of price, http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-keyboard-sgk4000gkcl1us, showing it to be just sliiightly lower throughout december, but who knows what merchat, and I <3 Amazon Prime.
Now I must resist getting another board ,___,
Great find.
-
Tempting, but ugh, must resist and wait patiently for the QFR Stealth to come out >.<
-
Has anyone received a QFR with Blues from Amazon that has been unbranded?
-
Just bought one for upcoming Phantom shenanigans. They don't get much cheaper than this.
-
Great deal. These are worth their weight in switches alone. Also this is the cheapest case for the phantom.
-
i don't "need" another one, but i mean,, aghhhh
-
I was planning on getting one of these but I was leaning toward trying out the brown switches. But I could not pass this up so I ordered one. I also freaking love amazon prime. I also jumped on the Phantom train today so I guess if push comes to shove I can use this case for that.
And I thought guns were bad for my wallet. I am only recently into this hobby, but I'm already hooked. Gee, thanks GH...

Is this the unbranded case?

Ohhh I had to pull the trigger... just to try out a cherry blues. Impossible to find this at this price (and unbranded) in Australia!

-
I'll be the third to ask this. is this unbranded?
I can tell you on Friday =D
I think no one has answered this b/c no one knows for sure. You could try asking in the CM Storm Vendor thread

Wonder if this has anything to do with clearing out old "branded" stock... I don't care if it's branded, thinking about painting it anyway.
-
Branded stock is pretty much cleared out, now it's clearing out grey/silver stock.
-
Clearing out the silver? So future cases will be what, black? Like the MX Red version? I actually kinda like the gray... but black is always cool I guess
-
My understanding is that they'll all be black.

I'm always willing to help proxy one of these for international members, I don't have the shipping weight yet (should be 3.5lbs or so, with a modified box) but I'm sure shipping will be less than $45, so you'll save over your local prices if they are indeed in excess of USD100.
-
I'm typing on a QFR w/ blues right now... but I think my mother needs a good board. hmm
-
Yeah...I think I'll screw getting a new mouse for now (even though I LOVE the mouse I'm getting). I need a temp case for my Phantom, and I think it would be nice to have those Blues around...
-
I'll be the third to ask this. is this unbranded?
I can tell you on Friday =D
And I'll be a second data point to this end on Friday as well.
Even if it's branded hopefully the replacement top cases go up soon on the cm-store and aren't cost prohibitive with shipping.
-

and your other family members and friends, cuz you know, everyone must use a mechanical keyboard.
-
if these are not branded that is a huge bonus, i got 2 for phantom project
-
anyone know if there's a way to transfer the Mini-USB signal of the Teensey to the Mini-USB signal of the Case? I suppose I could find a way around it, but it would be much preferred if it would work as a Detachable USB.
-
Take the QFR's dongle board and attach a mini USB connector on the inside end of the cable to connect to the teensy.
ebay for connectors.
edit: oh hey look, I saved some in a list..

Thanks for that link. That ebay store is awesome. They have everything and dirt cheap. Do you have any experience with the products they sell? Is the quality decent?
-
I have bought stuff from them, never been disappointed but I'm not going to say it's amazing stuff :)
-
You can buy a miniusb cable and strip off the larger plug and some of the insulation. Then desolder the cables that attack to the miniUSB board on the QFR and replace with your miniusb pigtail. Plug into teensy and go. I think this is what's done with the massdrop ergodox teensy. I don't know what other issues you'll run into, but this, at least, should work. make sure you get the pinout right.
I sholud know better than to leave these open overnight and answer them in the morning. I've been preempted by alaricljs again.
-
I SEE! so you take that end, solder wires from the end of that plug on ebay to the board on the QFR, then plug that plug from ebay into the Teensey, and plus, since it's just soldering, it's reversible! That's awesome!
-
I made an adapter for mine, but I bought everything off mouser. Very brief process of what you have to do: buy the full male USB mini B assembly that alaricljs just linked, solder 5 tiny wires from the USB to 5 female crimpled pins and find a housing with 2mm pin pitch for the 5 crimpled pins to plug straight into the male pins of the USB PCB of the CM.
-
would someone care to post that process with pics in another thread? I'm a visual person and not having the 2 components in front of me makes it hard to follow. I think I get the idea, but Pics would be awesome.
-
Champloo (bro-in-law) reports that my QFR arrived UNBRANDED

So what does that have to do with CM in particular? You can build an adapter that instead has a female full-size USB connector, so you could hook up any keyboard, even ones with non-detachable cables.
My question is, what's the benefit of daisy-chaining a teensy controller to an already functioning internal keyboard controller ?
-
The QFR has a daughterboard inside that is purely a mini-USB to wires and a connector that is the same as the internal connector on a Filco. So the adapter is just making it internally also able to connect back to mini USB as found on a teensy.
-
So this bypasses the QFR controller, meaning you present the keyboard matrix directly to the teensy? And if so, can you point to a teensly firmware that works and can be hacked?
-
This goes back to earlier discussion about using the QFR case for the upcoming Phantom PCB. A way to keep the detachability of the QFR case while using a teensy

This makes it possible to put a Phantom board in the QFR case, nothing else. The controller board on a QFR is in the same place as a Filco, on top of the mainboard nestled in the nav cluster.
And whiskytango, if I read you right you are confusing this with an external adapter. This is inside the case of a QFR in order to use as much of the original case and its features as possible with a Phantom PCB installed. Specifically the detachable USB cable.

I thought that's what I said. To use a detachable USB cable to connect to the QFR case with a Phantom pcb inside the same way you would connect to the stock QFR instead of having to run a cable through the case and plugging directly into the teensy. I was just trying to point out that this discussion was Phantom related and not necessarily related to a stock QFR. You stated it much more clearly though.
Edit: And I think WFD was talking about making an adapter inside the case instead of desoldering or cutting wires. Like a wiring harness, right?
-
Thank you both, I thought this was about making the QFR work with a teensy, but now I realize you are only interested in the QFR to throw away the insides and just keep the case for a phantom :-)
Sorry for the confusion!

Oh, I'm not COMPLETELY interested in that , I'm using it as a TEMPORARY case for my Phantom while leaving the PCB, switches, and plate somewhere safe. Once I get a custom case for my custom keyboard, I'm migrating my QFR back into it's case.

^
^
That's my plan too.
-
Strapped for money (near $150 for a couple sets of keycaps is a hair much) plus not wanting to spend $150 on a Filco makes this the perfect case for me :D Who knows? Maybe I'll end up equipping the second Klaxon set onto my QFR (Plus, there's one family member who uses a desktop that's lacking a Mechanical keyboard...May pass my Leopold onto her because she would hate blues (she thought the Browns in my keyboard were loud )
-
If anyone is looking to sell their naked QFR after they take the case, I'd be interested.
-
mine arrived today unbranded as well! sweeeet
The blues on it are definitely quieter than my filco and they feel a little better. Maybe just cause its new?
-
waited too long... :/
EDIT: I'll probably end up getting one myself, but it'll have to wait a bit longer.

you can still get it for the same price even though it shows 78 now. Just click where it says "52 new from $55"
-
Awesome.
-
Someone pointed out that Best Buy has them for $55 free shipping as well. There is an "Add to cart" button so I am assuming they are still in stock there

-
Nvm.
-
Mine is unbranded as well. My Phantoms are going to look pretty good in these I think. Not sure I need to use them as only temporary cases.
-
They're still $55 on Amazon when you put it in the cart.

The $55 one sold by Amazon is OOS and will ship in a few weeks.

Oh, I see....I didn't notice that since I have Prime and could have it in a few days. :P

but hey, if you buy now, and amazon re-stocks with the black unbranded cases......
YOU GOT YOURSELF A GOOD DEAL!

I'd definitely buy one if I didn't find Blues too light to type on...I'm thinking of getting the one with greens, though..

Any1 got theres and its unbranded?

Yeah, a couple of us did. Mine is unbranded and I received it on Friday.
-
Mine was unbranded as well.
-
Got mine today, branded as a herd of cattle!

lol at branded cattle but :( sorry to hear
crossing my fingers, mine shipped out finally
-
Got mine today, branded as a herd of cattle!
Bad luck man. Looks like their stock is mixed, either that or CM started making their cases branded again
-
haha, what's a little CM branding (The keyboard has already been destroyed :-X )
-

They're definitely not branding their cases again. Amazon is just getting rid of the old batches, which unfortunately for some, include branding.
-
if i get it well, branded cases are bad, and unbranded are good ?
-
if i get it well, branded cases are bad, and unbranded are good ?
That's entirely subjective. Many (like myself) like a cleaner, brandless look on at least the top side of the keyboard. Some don't mind the many logos on the QFR.
-
and again, i guess brandless are cheaper, vause life is a miracle ? no jk , i suppose they are more costy, right ?
-

Brandless are not cheaper. The branded ones are cheaper because those are the older models Cooler Master is trying to get rid of before distributing solely the new, brandless models.
-
Amazon isn't selling for $55 anymore. However, it can be found on Newegg for $65 ($55 after mail-in rebate). FREE SHIPPING
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823129002
From the recent reviews, it looks like they are also the gray brandless (mostly) models just like on Amazon.
-
damn, Laser****, er i mean Lasership, left my amazon package for some reason with my leasing office for my townhouse community, the first time anyone has done that; but place is closed and i am really eager to know if these are unbranded or not. Damn. i bought 2 and it would be funny if one was branded and the other unbranded.
-
I bought one for the phantom, too good of a price to pass up.
-

How much are you estimating it to cost?
-
Received mine on Sat, the 26th....also unbranded. thank God!
-
anything for us EU peasants?
-
finally opened mine up
they are branded, but only a logo on the back/top where you can't see it; looks like a nice sticker would easily go over it
-

That is the version that is considered "unbranded." There is no QFR case that is completely logo-less.

ah ok, makes sense, i'm not disappointed with it.
