is this a  real good deal, or the HHKB is not that pricy originally?

in both cases, it's still a good keyboard=)

It'd be more popular if it didn't have the strange Japanese layout

well, keycaps can be changed right ?

found this too, it's new, brandless, and a red escape keycap free

oh and THIS ONE :

It's used and its an auction. Would be great if it was a Buy It Now, but the price can and most likely will go up.

I read somewhere that the Japanese layout is pretty good for programmers due to the placement of some of the characters if you actually set it up to follow the printed layout. I want to get one one day just to find out for myself. Although if I could find something with MX switches in that layout I might be even more inclined.

The HHKB lite is rubber dome. As in non-Topre rubber dome.

The Keyboard Company carried them for a while. I've owned one Japanese Filco that found his new home in Fossala's hands.

Until some time ago I only owned JIS keyboards and still have one HHKB Pro JP and Realforce 91UBY.

I can only say good things about that HHKB, it's by far my favourite.

Yeah a Japanese Filco would be nice but if the price is close to an HHKB I'd just get one of those instead to try Topre.
