Greetings GH,
Looking to replace my Steelseries 6GV2 (Black switches), no particular reason really other than wanting something newly released.
Requirements:
- Nice looking LED's (Blue or Red LED's are preferred but list the other colors anyways)
- Brown or Red Switch (I'm a hybrid user that types + games, don't know which switch is better overall, i heard reds?)
- TKL is a bonus i guess!
- Good build quality!
(Hopefully i'm not missing any other information)
I already have a set budget in my mind but willing to listen to any suggestions if it's worth putting that extra $ in to get it!
I was looking at the Cooler Master Quickfire TK, i heard some good reviews about it here despite it being a hidden manufacturer and not being Costar.
The Cooler Master Storm Trigger is just to big for me, i would get it but the LED's aren't that nice compared to the new CM keyboard (Quickfire TK).
Thanks for reading!

Anyone? :D.

I think Browns are usually regarded as the safest bet especially for dual use - you get just enough tactile click for feedback. There's a loot of stuff here on browns vs reds and on the Quickfire, so why not just use the search?

Are they? Hmm..
I tried reds for a bit and they seem kind of nice, don't know what browns feel like so i don't know which switch to get.
I did a bit of research and figured that if i made a thread it would be better so i can easily ask questions rather than asking a question in each thread that it would be hard to work with.
Oh well, i'll just probably settle on the QuickFire TK reds, don't know when browns will be releasing for that model..

Ergo clear is the "safe bet".. Brown, not everyone likes, because the bump is not pronounced enough, just feels like "grittiness"

Would you say the red switches are more loved than the browns? Lol.

And exactly how many keyboards come with Ergo Clears?

TWO!
... and it scares me that I knew that off the top of my head. TG3 Deck Frost and I forget the other one.

The CM Storm TK is pretty good. It may not be manufactured by Costar but it is still a pretty good board. And just so you know its manufacturer isn't really that hidden XD

Who is the manufacturer then!?

"Tactile feedback switches (Cherry MX1A-C1NW, clear)"
from deck frost's description.

If you like reds I would go with reds, but if you can try them all. I love blacks and blues, reds are ok but too soft for me and I absolutely hate browns lol. A purely subjective thing though of course as a lot of people like them.

Yep. If you've tried reds and like them it seems a no brainer.

Yeah the only other switch i would be tempted to try is browns but i can't get my hands on them to know.
I have black switches right now so the jump isn't much to reds, just reds are lighter to press.

Those are Clear, which are rare enough, however the recommendation was Ergo-Clear, which is a hybrid of two switches and to my knowledge not offered by any.

>:D you're right... >:D
Still, it's the safe bet, everyone loves ergo-clear.. no one dislike ergo clear, cept hitler....... :D

Based on your requirement, maybe try CM Storm TK or Ducky Shine II 9087 (tenkeyless).
CM Storm TK you get Red Switch Red LED and Brown Switch White LED.
Ducky you get green, purple, blue, red, white soon orange LED color with any combination of swithes.

No one has them unless they went to the trouble of making them. Most likely they were pretty sure they would like it beforehand.

Is that your long-winded way of saying you're hitler and you don't like ergo-clears? ;D

Depending on how much shipping will cost to get to you, the KBT Pure or Race may be options for you. I currently have a Race but I think I'm going to try trading it for a Pure; 1, mainly because the footprint was larger than I expected and 2 because the many front printed keycaps on the Pure look great with the backlight.

but where do you get the extra keys.

Got the QuickFire TK Reds, loving it so far!

No, it's that Ergo Clears are more geared towards enthusiasts who already have a keyboard with every MX switch.
Recommending Ergo Clears in this thread is like recommending a Topre board to a MX keyboard novice.
Oh, and here's my opinion: Reds are awesome for gaming but can be a pain to type accurately due to their propensity to trigger off of any slight mistype. I actually have yet to try a full-on Brown board, but I like the feel of Clears as they have a crisper tactile bump.

give it a week, the boring sets in, and you buy more keyboards....;D
-
XD that wasn't a requirement was it? But yeah keycap replacement is pretty much impossible with the Race, and sort of limited to blanks with the Pure since the RShift is unique.
Anyway since backlit-legend keycap sets are pretty much non-existent, I wasn't too discouraged by the layouts. :P

Yeah but it has lights, whatever!

Ducky Shine IIs are TKL, have the best LED display options and are good build quality... you could save a little more for them if you need backlighting.

Hum. Clear has a much more distinctive bump than the brown.
(Typing this message with Deck Legend with MX Clear switches.

Damn it, hope they fit my vortex case.... :'(

No. People who have them are predisposed to liking them. I haven't tried them myself.
