Title: Best low profile keyboard?
Post by: Syvere on Wed, 30 January 2013, 01:45:35
What's the current best low profile keyboard recommendation? I also have 2 Topres and a brown Cherry Filco, but I'm looking for a Mac keyboard now.
I have the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Logitech Solar, but if anyone knows better quality keyboards I'm all for it. Apple's manufacturing feels very sturdy but the keys don't feel nearly as nice as Topres.

You can look around for a Topre HE0100. Essentially a low-profile Topre, using the so-called "Short Throw" switches.

IMO, the reason to own topre is because of the "thick" shaft of the key switches, which provide great stability and uniformity in keypress.. with the smaller shafts of the short throw, you just won't get the "full" topre experience.

Indeed, I'm not looking for a Topre as I already have two of those, I'm looking for a keyboard that can match the quality of Topre in manufacturing. For typing feel I just want the best regarded low profile keyboard available right now to add to my collection. Besides I don't think HE0100 is available in finnish layout.

What do you mean by low profile? Thin keyboard, or short throw switches?

You could always get some mechanical keyboard with thin case (I believe Corsair K60/K90 is quite thin; Cherry G80-3800 is certainly thin, but also not really sturdy), and low-profile keycaps w/ o-rings.

Oh, sorry. I mean thin keyboard with thin short throw switches like Apple's island keys.

What about Enermax Aurora? It's pretty solid IIRC. I guess TypeMatrix 2030 isn't the best recommendation.

A G84 may also be in order.
