I would love to own a Seiko SBGA011 but I don't think I could justify spending $7,000 on a watch.
As others have pointed out a $7k watch does not fit the sprit of the thread and all the mention of cars made me remember the Lexus LFA. I have loved the design since I first laid eyes upon it.

Well... Come to USA, student visa, simple degree, say nursing, degree takes 2 years, $65,000 per year job on night shift, in 4 years time you can qualify for auto loans to get pretty much Any Car within $200k..
This is actually very doable... There are small downsides to this, you work with some sick people..
But in terms of "demand" and "academic rigorousness", it's all within "very possible" category.
Nursing is quite easy in books, and YOU ALREADY know english. ;D

serioustalk about the gt-r. WHAT is with the new pricing? a buddy of mine just bought one of the last of the e90 m3s (ie, he bought a new one now, and they will be winding down production quite soon). he said he would have gotten a gt-r if they were still price competitive with the m3. a hundred grand for a gt-r vs any of the competitors at under 100k? AND on top of that you get no service contract and have to bring it to nissan dealerships of all places for warranty service AND ON TOP OF THAT THEY VOID YOUR WARRANTY IF YOU TRACK YOUR CAR?!?
c'mon nissan. C'MON

I think the cheapest car on the list so far is the GT-R, which goes for around $90k, right? So if that is what you call "very affordable", you must be quite wealthy and completely out of touch with how most people live. That would also probably explain the disdain for Obama...

I've got one of the JA Henckels licensed Kramer knives - http://www.surlatable.com/product/PRO-180374/?source=igodigital From what I can find, it's a remarkable knife that only loses luster when emotionally compared to a Kramer-crafted knife.
It's what put stitches in my finger. Was cleaning it after cutting some potatoes.

They've made it a better car in the 5 years since then, one. And two, that warranty thing only lasted about a year before the first minor update to the car and an adjustment to the warranty coverage.

A gt3 R makes a little sense in it's unaffordability. It's $190k with little practicality and the inability to finance it for 10-30 years like its house-esque cost would need for most people.

TJ, beautiful knife! No wonder you had to head to the hospital from a cut!
I wanted the Damascus a little more, but they were more expensive and not as sharp a blade than the carbon steel.
I figure I can save up and buy a paring knife made by him some day... (They're ~$300 an inch to have made)

I hate how they throw the damascus term on every blade that has the texture.... Damascus is a real thing and nearly impossible to reproduce....
It's like me selling regular knives with "legendary" as branding... Pure silliness for anyone who watches the discovery channel. ;D

My dream house, quite unlikely. Without specifics I guess you wouldn't know why, so I will give a little bit detail. I would want it built on the edge of a waterfall, and have a totally stand alone and closed environment with my own hydro electric, water treatment, air filtration and so on. Only thing coming from outside would be a fiberoptic link for internet. Inside would have to be dead silent too, I don't want to hear the damn waterfall day in and out lol.

Perhaps "NEVER be able to afford" as in "Rather spending the money on other things"?
I could afford the things I have listed some day if I'd save up,
but I rather spend my money on less ridiculous and less expensive things,
thus I will be never able to afford the expensive ones I have listed, makes sense?

Why not the more spacious Antonov An-225 Mriya?
How much space do you need?
I'm not the Sultan of Brunei, I don't need a fleet of cars, 20 rooms, and space to carry a small army.
C-130 is battle hardened, cheap, easy to get parts for, easy to work on (minimal electronics), and lands almost anywhere (even carriers). Qualified mechanics for it are everywhere.
The Antonov costs an insane amount of money to operate, has only a few places you can land, few people qualified to work on it, and if you break something, have fun finding parts or waiting for them to arrive.

Yea but people who could afford an antonov as a private motor home wouldn't be bogged down by service// repair costs.
That said, I am NOT so sure that an antonov would actually make a good mobile home, because it wasn't designed for "comfort"
very shaky to passengers. compared to say a commercial jet.

The trade off is most military transports can get into unimproved runways like grass and packed dirt that a commercial jet could never touch. I guess it depends on where you like to vacation.

You can't exactly make the moon look any worse. My thing is that I think it would be nice to live there. Imagine how good you would sleep at night. That and I'm sure the views are constantly stunning. But I wouldn't want to have to be in a space suit 24/7.

I thought the same thing until I saw the Curiosity rover pictures. Mars is a total carp-hole. Some terraforming would actually be nice, and treehuggers couldn't possibly complain about destroying the nonexistent natural beauty.

well i'm no tree hugger but i think mars is probably fine without us.
It may be fine without us, but if we are to survive as a species, at some point we have to get off this rock.
If we don't do it ourselves, at some point some natural disaster will wipe out all (at least human) life here.

Getting off this rock will only be helpful if not everyone is allowed to do so. I would worry about man made disaster wiping out the human race before any act of nature.

The answer is not to make more people and put them on Mars. The answer, is to stop making more people. Mandatory vasectomies across the globe!!! Or some sort of chemical spray that leaves us all infertile....

You make it sound so horrible. I'd rather live in a world where we absolutely cherish our new born babies.... See it as a privilege to reproduce.... Instead of "Oh I popped out 8 babies and guess what? I'm an American citizen with no job, so for every baby I have, I get a nice pay check every month. My baby daddy is gonna re-up on crack with that welfare check, and we gettin an Escalade. Where my food stamps at?? I want a bag of chips and some soda." --- All the while you have Ethiopian kids that simply don't have food or clean water to survive.
Every 10 years under my population control plan, we would allow REGISTERED in vitro fertilization. (In vitro, due to what ever miracle we can come up with, to stop sex from resulting in a new life. And don't say condoms - Nobody Likes Condoms.)

what credentials do you have to back up the effectiveness of your 'plan'?
dude that welfare-queen BS is hella bunk and rooted in really classist and racist assumptions. i'm not calling you a racist but recognize that stereotype is something that rich white guys (sup reagan) made up to make you hate people without easy access to effective birth control, comprehensive family planning or sex education. the whole point of it is to demonize people on welfare and make you think less of them as human beings with real problems that we can actually do something about, unlike forcing sterilization on a population that you don't find sympathy for. that and it does double duty to hide the fact that the government provides more tax breaks to corporations and wastes billions of dollars on subpar contract work, and the amount of money spent on those activities absolutely dwarfs the amount of money we spend on welfare programs.
check the assumptions you make about a population before deciding that you get to judge who gets to have babies and who doesnt. there are actual, real, effective, temporary and reversible male birth control methods coming out (ryzex!!) that cause far less harm to everybody involved than even traditional hormonal birth control commonly prescribed to women.
though i'd say your premise easily fits the thread title -- ridiculous! :))
-
Why are statists so obsessed with controlling other people?
It's creepy.
-
I know people who don't deserve the government help they receive. Credentials? I did mention that it would take a miracle to do exactly what it is I'm proposing.
People that have access to stuff like this "ryzex?" you mentioned? Fine - but what about third world countries? Or people who have a baby every 9 months, because "they love Jesus." Those are the countries / religious groups (do I need to name names?) that will eventually cause competition between fellow human beings to drastically lower the standard of living, world-wide.
Yes it is definitely a far fetched idea. No the world is not yet ready for it. Sure there are birth controls available. But mark my words, one of our future generations WILL see a drop in population. Apparently, it will be very violent because people are too proud and think they are so damn entitled.
-

Yes it is definitely a far fetched idea. No the world is not yet ready for it. Sure there are birth controls available. But mark my words, one of our future generations WILL see a drop in population. Apparently, it will be very violent because people are too proud and think they are so damn entitled.
entitled to have children? damn dude you are playing with some weird fire here.
are you a scientist or professional in the field of population study and reproductive statistics or are you just speculating based on classist/racist myths perpetuated by conservative lawmakers?
i'm not saying population growth is not an issue that should be seriously studied and considered (though there are some who say that overpopulation is vastly overblown as a pressing issue), but shooting people with no-baby darts will never be the answer.

Hey first of all, peace. Peace and happiness.

^ The above is a google search for "population capacity of earth" --- it's simple logic. You don't need to be a professor to see my point. You keep mentioning that I think I get to decide who does and doesn't have babies --- Everybody gets to have a baby. Once every 10 to 20 years.

Back on topic...
I want a massive amount of land in a rural area with 4+ modern and extremely eco-friendly living structures. It would be a giant compound for family and friends to live on or vacation to.
-
The unaffordable:
A card that allows me for unlimited free stay in any hotel room in the planet. (If it even exist)
A 2 storey condo unit.
Ai Shinozaki (Go google her)
1:1 Ratio life size Zeta Gundam (They currently have Original Gundam in Japan)
Now the potentially affordable but don't want to spend the cash for it:
Subaru Impreza STi
Topre + Topre Aluminum Case
MKC Filco Aluminum Case (No longer available)

Good angle shot - It's a Masterpiece!
but I found it a bit too Covertty from the side.

That looks good until I noticed the front outer vents connecting to the headlights.
It makes the fender look like it's hanging off in mid air.

How old are you guys..?? most of these things are all very affordable assuming you have a basic Job in the United States.
.....Assuming no serious Obama fallout.... :D
I live in Singapore, the small area of hell where you have to fork out 90k to buy a certificate which entitles you to even own a car......before you even buy a car........ :'(
Essentially a piece of paper which is worth 90k........(and its per car you own btw)
Woot?! Could you explain me that better? I am planning to move to Singapore and I cannot live without car!

I want a professional grade espresso machine.
SOMEDAY
-
Yeah but then you have to make it yourself! Few bucks will get you a professionally made espresso drink without doing any work!
-
I wish I could afford my sanity back, but we all you you can't buy that :(.
-
I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.

A few bucks is a preposterous price to pay for something which has a true value of maybe 15 cents. Pretty much any food is better made by yourself as long as you know how anyway. I don't have any coffee shops near me anyway. Not to mention.... leaving the house.... mrehhhh
