Title: I need help choosing a new keyboard
Post by: red_magic on Sun, 10 February 2013, 21:49:56
As the title says, I need some help choosing a few different keyboards. The boards are as follows:

Two things to note. I am set on the blues and I need the board to be sturdy and well built, i.e. no ****ty build quality.
Any and all help is appreciated, thanks!

This, but i would say that ducky comes very highly recommended as well.

Vortex is a difficult company to deal with to be sure. Their boards do look so gorgeous though. I love my KBT Pure, even after hearing the horror stories some have had to go through to get them, or get one fixed.

I have the ONI with brown switches, and all i can say is that it comes damn close to a filco.
there is no knro with ps2, but instead you get pbt keycaps.

I have a Filco and I can vouch for it's quality.  Very sturdy build, feels like a tank.  I have used a few other boards with metal plates and Filco is the best out of all of them.

Filco is a really nice and well built no frills mx board. I have tried several of them and they were all solid. However, my Ducky Shine 2 is also well built and has some nice bells and whistles. I also like how easy the keys are to switch out versus costar stabilizers. They're both about the same price so really it's all preferential, you won't go wrong with either.

Own all 3 (well YotD instead of S2), Filco ≥ Oni > Ducky.

Hello.
I know this thread's a bit old, so hoping someone will respond.
Currently have a Filco Ninja (browns). My first mechanical, loving every bit of it.
Will get another as I want to type with blues (keeping browns for general... and when the missus is at home!).
I was eyeing Vortex's, would consider adjusting my typing habits to accommodate for a 60%. Other than that though, I suppose I'd just go back to a Filco.

In terms of background, I program, as well, I'm an author. So typing for long hours daily is the norm.

laffindude, can you explain your ranking? I don't care about the Ducky, just wondering why you prefer Filco over the Vortex.
Thanks!

I have read around the fourms and many of reviews of  them are saying that Vortex boards have no quality control, You should probably get a filco or ducky , very good quality boards. Or if you really want a 60% keyboard, you can look at the kbc poker.

Thanks for the response terran. But isn't the Poker a Vortex? A bit confused.

I believe that there are two different brands that make 60% keyboards, KBC and KBT,  don't quote me on this as I'm not too sure.
