Title: [SOLD] QFR with Ergo-clears - $100
Post by: khaangaaroo on Mon, 11 February 2013, 22:37:48
I have a QFR with reds that has been half-modded with ergo-clears. I bought the board from another member here to try out ergo-clears, but decided they weren't for me. I let my brother use it for a few weeks, but he eventually decided he liked mx browns more. So I'm looking to pass it on to the next person who's wants to try them out.

$100 plus actual shipping from California. CONUS for now. (Sorry international buddies)
SOLD for $100 within CA.

Could you post a picture of the BACK of the PCB, Just want to check if the solder job is good. ;D

Do as the man wishes. Post a pic of the back, but make sure it's blurry :P

The solder pad on the space bar is lifted a bit. (It wasn't me!)
But the rest seems like a better soldering job than I could have done myself.

If you're typing normally, they won't ever. But if you're depressing it very slowly to test them out, it might feel like they stick when it gets to the tactile bump on the way up, but it'll still make it past the bump. Lube greatly reduces this and makes it feel so much better, both pressing down and when it springs back up.

gotcha

ok so dump question......... since i have no experience with these. if lubed would they not revert basically to something linear (like the other reds) and lose the slight bump?

The bump will still be there. With lube, there's less friction, so the key will feel less gritty. But the force required to get over the bump will remain pretty much the same, minus the little bit of friction.

ok...........another dumb question. i have read many of the posts in the past about these switches. in laymans terms they are like browns with a more pronounced bump, yet with a slight hesitation on the way back up?

just trying to figure out the feel. pretty much everybody likes browns yet we have many that do not like the ergo-clears, so i am presuming the maybe mushy, stickiness on the way up that i read?

There's no stickiness on the way up that I can feel. All the keys spring up just like any other cherry board I have.

If you like browns, but wish that they were a little more tactile, then you'll probably like ergo-clears. I think a lot more people like browns because a lot more people have tried browns. My guess it that  people who have ergo-clears either have spent more money getting one, or more time making one, so expectations are higher.

But it really comes down to personal preference. I was never able to get a feel for what I liked until I actually tried the different types. Reading about it and watching videos will only get you so far.

But anyway, GLWS! :)
