Title: Keyboard reset
Post by: Zybane on Fri, 15 February 2013, 22:40:43
Anyone else have a KBT Pure? If so, does yours also have the fatal flaw that every-time you reboot/shutdown it loses its LED and other settings? Seems silly to design a $100+ keyboard and omit a 5 cent circuit.

Does the KBT Race have the same problem anyone know? Or any mini-type keyboard that you don't have to reset it to where you want it every time you reboot/shutdown?

Before I sent mine back, I never had that problem, although it was only hooked up to my laptop, and it didn't have color LEDs, only the indicators.

Dunno about KBT Pure, but the Ducky Shine version 1 exhibited this behaviour.  The Shine II does not - it saves its settings across reboots.

Ah, I might have to get the Ducky Shine II. Not remembering settings just annoys the crap out of me. Is that the smallest keyboard that anyone can think of that remembers settings after reboot. What about the KBT Race?

Deck/TG3 BL82 keeps its backlight setting. In fact it even stayed on when the PC was off. It's smaller but only come in blacks and in the case of the Deck version buttugly keycap font. Also it's only 2KRO. On the other hand though TG3 version can often be had on ebay for under $30.

Yeah my KBT Race used to do that quite a bit.
It would never start with the LEDs. So eventually I just gave up and never use them anymore.
It's a harsh life.

Deck 82 Ice has 6KRO... TG3 has 2KRO.

Yes. Tg3 BL82 is only 2KRO. I test every used board with aqua when I get it to make sure it's working and do a KRO test to see if it gaming suitable. It was not. So I replaced all the keycap with Cherry one as I didn't like the flat non sculpted cap and used it at the office for a little bit before getting rid of it. There was just something I didn't like about it, maybe it's too high I don't know.

I don't know about TG3...
But wrong for Deck's made by TG3 anyway - Which is strange. Why would Deck and TG3 keyboards show different behavior?
Did you have a KVM or any type of devices between the keyboard and the computer?

No, nothing extra just a straight connection from keyboard to motherboard with ps/2.

TG3 BL82: MX Blacks (and some Clears), Red backlight, normal dyesubbed "doubleshot" PBT keycaps, 2KRO = $50 retail
Deck 82 Ice: MX Blacks, Blue backlight, weird gamer font dyesubbed "doubleshot" PBT keycaps, NKRO, steel case bottom = $150 retail

Deck was made for "gamers". A PCB comparison would be great if someone had the Deck 82 and a BL82. What irks me is that for such small changes the Deck equivalent commands 3x retail price over the BL82.

And, Deck has upped their prices from $120-ish for the 82 Ice to the now $150 with no version iteration or other apparent changes. In my opinion, don't deal with such a company that isn't driving the mechanical keyboard market forward.

People keep forgetting that the TG3 BL82 is an industrial design meant for specific users; primarily first responders for in-car computers and for industrial applications, where they're likely to be typing with one hand. That was the BL82's primary market. (Hence the Telxon stickers on many of the eBay examples.)
As to why the BL82 is so much cheaper? It's not the KRO. It's the combination of how many they sell (economies of scale) and the type and number of components used (red LEDs are cheap, the keycaps are cheap, there's no diodes, and the controller is archaic and very simple.) The BL82's got more in common with an M than with a Deck82. Even uses ribbon cables to connect to the controller. That's harsh - Deck's are built like tanks, they use PBT keycaps on backlit boards. No one else is doing so. Unlike many other "new and innovative" ones, the backlit settings don't reset between reboots. I only wish they update their full size boards with a smaller footprint. That would certainly make me buy a third one :-)

And while we are there... Changing the font would be nice too.

TG3 has also a steel case bottom,  but flat and black painted.
Another difference , the TG3 is plate mounted, Deck 82 is PCB mounted.
And don't forget the rubber splash guard prevents blood or puke from entering into the keyboard.

@ BucklingSpring

beware of the statement all Deck have 6KRO.
Deck Legends have 6KRO
Deck Ice 82 have 6KRO
Deck Toxic 82 depends on the version wether you got 2KRO or 6KRO
Deck orange and red Version 82 is always 2KRO.

Rootwyrm and Jabar are both correct.  Also, a little bird told me Deck may have something new in the pipeline to be released very soon...

My Poker did this. Every time it would get disconnected, I'd have to "reinvoke" the settings. I ended up making the settings permanent by using third party keyboard software, and mapping them directly. The only annoying one was the Tilde/Esc key on the poker. So I mapped it that by default ~ threw Escape, and then invoking that mode, ~ threw ~. What operating system are you using this with?

Hey Dr Dolittle who talks to birds. A single post on GH and an insight like that... You are making me curious.

Do the bird said what this new Deck will be like?
