Title: Help me decide on keycaps for my painted QFR
Post by: lukelev07 on Sat, 16 February 2013, 21:35:07
So I recently painted my Cooler Master Quickfire Rapid with blues, and I need an opinion on which keys I should buy. I want to keep the cost below $60, and I want white keycaps (unless I find something else to match the color I painted it  ;D

Here is what I have found so far...

http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=140
and
http://www.ebay.com/itm/KBC-White-Printed-PBT-Cherry-MX-Key-Caps-104-keys-included-/330757195528?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item4d02aa4708

Of these two, which should I go for? ALso, any other suggestionos I am open to  :)

I painted with a krylon fusion blue, but I sanded with 100, then 400 grit paper beforehand... I have not touched the board for a week tolet the paint "cure"....pics are below...

Of the two I'd go with the latter. I never was a big fan of ducky products or printed key caps.

How about you mix & match these alphas and keep the stock QFR black modifiers:

Of course, if you were to up your budget to a $100 you have some awesome choices:

Vorex thick dye subs:

Cherry beige /w Blue double shots:

Noooo stop showing me these amazing keycaps that cost the same as a new keyboard ;)

I might just go with your recommendation, but are PBT's the way to go? and just forget about a custom set from WASD?

hmm this makes me want to do this to my qfr. i hate the "not quite black"-black the rubber coating gives it. i'm interested to see how well your paint job holds up.

So far so good, it has been a week since the painting so I am using it again and it looks amazing with the black keys...I can only imagine what it will look like with white ones...

Here it is in all its glory!

Apologies for they poorly-painted windows key, I was experimenting with clear coat.
