Title: Building my Perfect Keyboard
Post by: Strelok on Mon, 18 February 2013, 09:45:07
I came to Geekhack with the intention of creating the perfect keyboard for myself. Some say it cannot be done, that the perfect board is only an illusion, but I think with the cumulative knowledge of the greatest minds on the planet, plus the unbridled might of the internet, and the GH60 being a thing, I can do it.

First thing is Layout:
60% ANSI, nuff said, its my favorite on all counts.

Next is switches.
I have a thing for unique switches, as I'm sure most do. So here begins our journey. Help me decide what the rest of the switches should be.

The most important switches are the letters. I like my letters clicky. Blue's are for women and children. Greens are for manly men who man manly keyboards, such has myself.

I decided I wanted MX Locks on for Caps and Fn, to remove all sources of Rice (read: LEDs) from the board, and to give it functional uniformity, a key operates when it is down, no exceptions. I have a source for these.

The Esc key is special. It is the grand master, a monument to all your sins. It stands alone on the brink, it must be strong. I am pending confirmation on a source of 150cN Cherry MX Super Blacks. If I can get more thane one, I will put another in Backspace.

So now I look to you, how may I best arrange the switches on the rest of the board?

Blacks for the rest of your light grey keys there. F1-F12 and punctuation.

Reds for the modifiers. Grey or Dark Grey for spacebar.

That's pretty much what I was thinking, but I'm also considering Blues on the symbol keys, because Pinky Fingers are for girls.

LOL. Agreed. I don't understand the fascination with soft springs. I discovered that I like panda clears over ergos and now I just modded them back to regular clears to see if even stronger is even better (i suspect this is somewhat of a universal truth).
