We all have them, so let's gather around and confess. I'll start..
Instead of using F5 to refresh, I do so by pressing CTRL + R. Not only that, but I browse with my left hand fixed on the CTRL + R keys. This places unnecessary strain on my hand.
-
Nope.. I don't have any bad habits..
-
When typing under pressure, I forget to to keep my hands slightly higher than what's intuitive and to strike the keys.
-
I only use the left shift and only use the space bar with my right thumb...I also don't use the right alt, ctrl, or winkey
-
CTRL+R is what I use most of the time to refresh, much quicker than F5.
-
My hands move left and right on the keyboard so as to be most efficient, but that causes me to not know where they are so that I have to look at them. I have only recently started to re-learn touch typing and it's going very slow.
-

Same here except I only strike the spacebar with my left thumb.

what? left right?
-
I'm using my keyboards, literally destroying the keycaps and switches bit by bit.

Same here except I only strike the space-bar with my left thumb.
only using the left shift isn't that huge a deal....
However LEFT thumb space bar is very bad, because most "English" words begin and end with left hand letters.

I'm not the fastest when typing, but I don't thing that using my left thumb is really slowing me down all that much

I also use the left thumb for the space bar. I don't think it matters since either thumb is resting there anyway. I usually type around 90WPM
-
Excessive purchasing.

Excessive purchasing.
I can relate -________-
-
- I touch type with only 6 fingers (thumb, point, middle on each hand)
- Never use the right Shift / Ctrl / Alt, only left
- Only use left thumb for space
-
Hitting "pinky" keys with my ring finger, like Q.
Only using the left shift. I know if I used the right one, some things would go faster, but I just can't seem to work it into my routine. Can't teach an old dog new tricks, especially when he's typing ~90WPM already.
-
sometimes i poop on my keyboard
VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO
-
Resting my wrists on the wrist pad. All the time.
-
I rest my palms on the front edge of my thinkpad when typing on the internal keyboard.
Not exactly keyboard-related, but I also keep spamming mouse buttons, and drag'n'dropping text without any purpose when reading some text.

LOL I always do this. It's a OCD / ADHD type of habbit. ALWAYS selecting text / clicking / accidentally liking posts on FB :-X
-
I like bottoming out.
-
only using my Pinkies for Modifiers and semicolon and apostrophe...
I also only use the modifiers on the left side except for Shift which I use exclusively with my right hand except for playing games...
only ever use right thumb for space, except for games (that would be a little awkward...)
Don't have the number keys completely embedded in muscle memory...
And Bottoming out...
Also: Only having one Cherry MX Keyswitch type :'(
-
My typing style isn't quite kosher. I move my hands around a bit too much.
In fact, as I test things out, it seems like my left hand side is just fine, but the right hand side, it seems I hardy ever use anything but my index and middle...
Every period, semicolon, colon, 'tick', "quotes" are with the index finger.. hmm...
Probably related to the above: I hardly ever use any of the right handed modifiers. Although I do use right shift with the home keys alot though.
Backspace with ring. enter with pinky. space with my right thumb.
Some of the middle keys are typed with either hand
Arrow keys are mostly used with my pinky and ring and my index resting on the enter key.
I have this thing where I don't know 100% where the symbols under the numbers are.. but I don't look either..
I just guess and get it wrong alot :)
- I touch type with only 6 fingers (thumb, point, middle on each hand)
- Never use the right Shift / Ctrl / Alt, only left

I bet alot of people do this.. as we do.
Use only one side of modifiers and use only the other side for space.

I do this too but, I've trained my hands to know where I am at all time.. how else could you do one handed typing without looking :)

Hai... didn't you die in Golden Eye? :))

I use my ring finger for Q and A, otherwise I type normally. I use my left thumb for the spacebar.
I rest my palms on the front edge of my thinkpad when typing on the internal keyboard.
Not exactly keyboard-related, but I also keep spamming mouse buttons, and drag'n'dropping text without any purpose when reading some text.
I right click and try to make the top of the box even with lines on the page.
-
I have a bad habit of chewing plastic stuff (like plastic rings from soda bottles, bottle caps, pens, pencils, etc etc). Well a long time ago I got several "crap bags" from SP, which didn't really have anything good in them. I think i've probably chewed like 100 or so of those keys, they taste pretty good.
...kinda keyboard related
-
Fn + Shift + Esc ****s me up every time
-
My hands always go to wasd position when resting. i misspell a lot of words, like teh, taht, waht. my posture is horrible. i miss key a lot. I pull capslock and window keys off all my boards.
i don't always use proper grammar and punctuation, but i guess that comes from gaming.

Pretty much this, plus bad posture. The worst is backspace with the ring finger. I've done that like 10 times over the course of this post.

this is rather good habit than bad.
on topic: i don't have any.
-
I hit B with my right hand about half the time (qwerty layout).

Actually, if you watch your hands while you do this, you'll notice that the ring finger is actually closer to the backspace key than the pinky finger.
This might actually be a good habit.
Try for a bit to use your pinky to hit the backspace... it's really weird, you have to raise your hand way up there.
Actually, I've now pay more attention. I won't hit anything with my pinky key above the home keys.
It seems hard to move your pinky finger up like that. It might have to do with how I wrest my wrists. Maybe this is "bad posture"?

no, it's because using the pink you have to move you whole arm up if they're at rest.

well, maybe you guys can switch to something less poisonous?
Or is "danger" and "knowing it's wrong" part of the draw.... :D

Healthy and safe ideas are never fun.

I think bav wins this one. Eating your keys is bayud mmmmkay
-
Plastic is just more accessible and I can chew through anything really. Strong ass teeth that need to kill stuff. Like every water bottle I have has been destroyed. Gotta try a keycap one day

Whaaaaaaat
You've made me curious now, how does ABS taste compared to PBT?
-
I sometimes pull my key caps when I'm bored...not sure why.
I also always have my left pinkie on the shift key, and only use my left shift key. The left control is another pinkie-only key. I use the space bar with my right index finger, I don't use either of my thumbs or my right pinkie. Despite my severely screwed up way of typing I'm still 90-100WPM with around 98% accuracy.
-
I eat and drink in front of my ssk. And sometimes I hit esc only to touch the clack :D
-
The only weird thing I do is that, when typing, I bend my left thumb inwards to press the left shift button.
I am not sure how or why I started doing this. I used to type completely textbook. I think it has something to do with gaming, where I often bend my thumb inward to hit Z,X,C while keeping my fingers on WASD. It is actually quite comfortable for me, and just as fast. So I decided to roll with it and keep it as an odd typing quirk.
-
i think this counts as a bad habit; i type like a jackhammer on all my keys ever since i can remember learning to type without looking at the keyboard (home row). people can hear me from across the office. I think this is the reason why i cant appreciate Topre.
also since this called bad keyboard habits in the topic instead of bad typing habits i will say i eat on my keyboards too much, lots of junk i brush out of keyboards monthly. i know this makes a lot of you keyboard lovers cringe but i cant be the only one.

Perhaps try a board with MX-grey or (darkgrey) switches...
I use a poker with greys for two days now (I used clears for like a year before but wanted to try something even stiffer now),
so far I didn't bottom out even once (except on the space-bar where I always bottom out... strong thumbs, perhaps from all the GameBoy and SNES play back then?).
-
i have a mx white on my RACE and i still bottom out always very hard and those are pretty stiff. I didn't like linear feel of reds or blacks so i doubt i would like grey.
eh, i don't know i think i just to practice typing lighter for long periods of time, OR just deal with it; its only a problem for the people around me, i personally love the feel of both a tactile bump and then my fingers hitting the bottom and making that sound.

Not exactly keyboard-related, but I also keep spamming mouse buttons, and drag'n'dropping text without any purpose when reading some text.
Lol, so much this.
I also switch between Desktops like a mad man. And I type hard enough to kill almost any rubberdome within 6 months.

This is a psychological disorder.. get help..
and most of ya'll seem to have some form of "impulse control disorder"
kinda like finger-biting// hair pulling
-
lol oh you. everyone will be fine :)
-
Taking them apart and not putting them back together within 48 hours .....
-
Sitting too close, so that my arms are making a / \ shape
Bottoming out quite a bit

Swap Caps with Control, and that strain goes away. It's miraculous.
Sitting too close, so that my arms are making a / \ shape
That's actually not that bad, as long as you're wrists are straight. It's the unnatural wrist position that puts the most strain on you while typing (typically). My forearms are usually at close to a 45 degree angle when typing.
As far as my bad habits go, on a standard keyboard layout I hit the backspace key with my ring finger, and only use my right thumb for typing. Otherwise I'm pretty much picture-perfect.

doritos on the num pad. That's what big blue made the spill channels for :p

I think everyone has their own little think

Haven't tried pbt yet...need to find a cheap source
-
I use my ring finger for some things I should use my pinky for. Notably the backspace. <gasp!>
-
enjoying bottoming out :P and eating on them... I try my best to avoid food going in... I swear! :p
